LUX* South Ari Atoll

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

This stunning resort gives a true insight into island living. As well as being exceedingly laid back, there’s a spontaneous atmosphere with impromptu cinema screenings on the beach, pop-up musical performances, surprise secret bars & much more. If you’re a water sport enthusiast you’re in for a treat, the diving here is spectacular, with plenty of underwater sites to explore for beginners to advanced divers. There’s also land sports aplenty, two pools (both fully serviced by poolside bars), two miles of sandy beach and the LUX* Me Spa, an oasis within an oasis. The kids, meanwhile, can engage in a variety of activities at PLAY, including decadent cake decorating and art classes. STUDIO 17 is for older kids with exciting excursions around the island on the agenda! There are plenty of eateries to choose from: at the core of the island, MIXE offers everything from wood-fired pizzas to grills & stir fries, with a tempting island twist; for Italian cuisine, there is Allegria or head to East Market for Asian-inspired dishes.

Mohamed Mamoun and Jonas Amstad directing an orchestra of 615 transformed human beings, seem to be only there to give us an unforgettable experiance - wrong sounds were during our seven days not to hear. We were integrated in this loving family directly after arrival and were feeling from the first moment at home. Every wish was read from our lips. Lux South Ari is a benchmark for all first-class-hotels concerning loving care and harmony. And yes the whole island is lighter and brighter, unbelievable well kept - welcome to paradise. The food at star level. Crystal clear water, clean beaches and a terrific vegetation. At this point a big big thank you to CEO Paul Jones, who had the courage to turn those visions into action - welcome to the future - i understood this hotel- and employee-dna immediatly before booking - "that there really is such a thing" i thought. The investment in the complex transformation of all employees is permanently visible 365/24/7. It hurt a lot to leave this paradise. The desire to come back, was created before we left. we love you all from the bottom of our heart and will return as soon as possible thank you for your special way of illumination Dirk, Sandra und Sita Joy Read less

We recently returned from our honeymoon at the Lux. We stayed in the Romantic Water Villa, which was outstanding and perfect for us. The room was spacious, with all the mod cons you would expect, even a projector and screen for the odd movie night. The decked area received plenty of sun, was private and the pool was perfect for cooling off in the intense heat. Access to the lagoon was pretty amazing, even saw plenty of fish and reef sharks from the comfort of our villa. We were on an all inclusive package, we would thoroughly recommend this as prices for food and drinks felt very pricey. Food was wonderful, especially in the a la carte restaurants. Our experiences like the spa, photography and private beach meal were very special and exceeded our expectations. If we were to nitpick, we couldn’t be flexible with where/when we wanted to dine a la carte, as their was an insistence on pre-booking restaurants, even turning us away on one occasion, when there were plenty of free tables. Unami was great but should be part of the All Inclusive package in our opinion. Also we had a Guest Relations manager who was supposed to look after us throughout but only heard from her one day before we left. All in all, as a barometer we would definitely go back and were sad to leave. The staff did make us feel special for our honeymoon and my birthday. Read less

We had an amazing time here at Lux. We stayed May 2-13. Below our main highlights: Amazing: * Service is incredible wherever you go on the island * Food was superb, all restaurants provide a top notch dining experience and even after 11 days we still felt like there were plenty of new menu items to explore * there are many thoughtful little touches that make this resort really unique: the disco restrooms, the twice a day turndown service * Watersport and diving facilities are very professional * We stayed in a beach Villa and even these are spacious and feel luxurious To improve or keep in mind: * They don't have a nearby housereef so even though to offer complimentary house reef snorkeling trips, it's a ways out and it's also not a great reef as we've seen elsewhere * They spray pretty intense musquito spray even night that lingers in the bathroom for multiple hours * The watersports activities are too expensive for what you get and they are not creating a top service experience. We booked a 30 min flyboarding class and they even counted the minutes we were picking out shoes and equipment. The time in the water was 20 min and the time actually flying (after instructions) was more like 15min. I just started getting more comfortable on the flyboard and it was already over. And with mandatory service charge and tax it was $200. When we complained about it, they didn't want to do anything and didn't really listen to what we had to say. All inclusive vs a la carte: * We chose a la carte but did have the bed and breakfast. Bed and breakfast is a good deal if you're a breakfast person because we got it for $20 pp per day by booking in advance and we had a late and big breakfast every day that filled us up way past lunch time. For dinner and drinks during the day (2 drinks ea a day, and main course, starter and desert) we paid $200-250 daily. The all inclusive would be $350-400 daily on top of the breakfast. Unless you intend to drink or eat a lot more, the all inclusive wasn't worth it for us. Read less

The wife and I went to LUX last November and have been meaning to do a review since, we had an incredible holiday at LUX the best we've ever had in fact, the people the food the views the music everything was just perfect, we went for 9 nights and stayed in the romantic water villa which was excellent so peaceful we were in a room right near the end (near the sand bank) which we preferred as we enjoyed the walk I'm not going to go on and on I will just upload a few photos because as the saying goes a picture speaks a thousand words. We just wanted to leave a note of thanks to all the people we wanted to say thank you for making our holiday so special. East bar Cham what a lovely lady and a very hard worker ( I hope you had a nice holiday when you went home) Munnim, another great person who we had the pleasure of meeting, once we were walking to senses and he was going the same direction and we had a lovely chat and he was telling us all about the Maldives and there culture Beach rouge Ismail, what a great guy very good at this job he always found the time to talk too us and it was good to talk to him about fishing (he's very knowledgable) and see some pictures of the fish he'd caught. ICI Fair, he always has a smile on his face and he serves up the best ice cream we used to walk there every day after lunch Senses This was by far our favourite restaurant (they were all great) the manager I think it was Sangeeth is a lovely person and can't do enough for you and even got us a cake made for our anniversary. Izwan, I think that was his name? he's the youngest member of the team at senses and was a very charming young man, Buggy driver Swakat, I think he must be the happiest person I've ever met always a great big smile on his face and he says he loves his job and it shows. The gardeners, these folk work tirelessly in the heat all day to keep this island looking amazing and they do a great job and always say hello good morning etc. Everyone we came in contact with were very nice and you all do a great job. A few things we would like to see (not sure if possible) is to put a net in between the romantic pool and the fence/wall so you could lay there over the water like you can at east bar or beach rouge Also in the Italian whilst waiting to be seated it would be nice to have a drink as sometimes you can wait a little while Designated smoking area for those who wish to smoke in restauraunts (as we are not smokers) during our 9 day stay we were seated once next to a some people who were smoking. We had such a good time that we've booked to go back again next March for 11 nights this time and can't wait Read less
