Best Maldives holiday ever !! We have visited the Maldives before a few times and this island has really ticked all the boxes for us . Super from start to finish . All the staff are just so incredibly friendly and we thank you all for making it a fabulous holiday. The Grill is a great restaurant as is the Wok - best dim-sum ever . snorkelling terrific - our son loved seeing two pods of dolphins on a jet ski and also thank you for sorting his PADI licence whilst staying there . We came from Spain to celebrate our first anniversary and the experience was amazing. It went beyond our expectations in terms of accommodities, activities and coral reef life. We went to French Polynesia for our Honey Moon, and this resort it is one of the top ones of our list. The Sangs bar handle by Lahiru and the service and room attention rom Nazeel were supperb, feeling us to be important guest of the resort and having fun. As scuba divers, the coral and the reef life it is important for us and we were able to snorkel around all island without restrictions and enjoy the fishes, the turtles, sharks, dolphins etc. Very happy! Everyone in Oblu select sangeli was kind. We saw many fishes near by watervilla, rays and turtles on snorkling trips. Kidsclub staffs were warm and kind, and my kid loved it. He said that he had good time there and hope to see them soon. Just got back from a fantastic holiday at Oblu select sangeli. This is our third visit to the Maldives and we went there to celebrate my wife's birthday. I will structure this review and break it down into categories so that fellow travellers find it useful. 1. Hospitality: 5/5. Every member of the staff was extremely polite, courteous, proactive and friendly. Special mention for the staff at Sangs bar, these guys are constantly on their toes from morning till night and they are as welcoming at 9 AM as they are at 11 PM. A big thank you to Nazeel for ensuring my wife's birthday decorations were arranged without a hitch. He was the perfect partner in crime and helped me select from a number of options and ensured they were done just right. He also took initiative and booked the moonlight cruise for us, which was not available via the app. It was a fantastic experience. A special shout out to Farhaun at the courtyard for his special attention. Beyond a point I stopped taking down names because everyone was so warm and welcoming. 2. Food: 5/5: We are big foodies and so food is a critical part of our holiday experience. The food at the courtyard (buffet) was excellent. Great variety to accommodate people from all over the world across breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Indian counter served 4 dishes across all three meals and this was pretty much the best Indian food I have had at a resort outside of India. The Indian counter is manned by a string of chefs from India and they are all really good. Special thank you to Chef Jeevan Kumar, who was in charge of Indian breakfast. He specially made aloo parathas for us on request and they were delicious. Chef Vijay used to man the Indian counter during lunch and dinner and he was fantastic as well. The dishes changed with every meal and we had hot roti/naan to go along with it. The desserts were absolutely yummy and again the variety was extensive. From salads to starters to main course, we enjoyed everything. We mostly stuck to mocktails for drinks and the ones that we tried were pretty good. 3. Resort 4/5: The resort (as per the staff) is just 5 years old. It is very well maintained and very clean. Loved the landscaping throughout with every nook and corner having been attended to. The resort is large enough for you to explore and but no so large that commuting becomes a pain and a buggy mandatory. The resort has a beautiful turquoise lagoon surrounding it. The only downside is that with the low tide in the evenings, the water recedes quite a bit and uncovers the underlying rock formation, which is not very pleasant to look at. But you would get to see this only for a couple of hours in late evening. The resort has two swimming pools and both of them are gorgeous. We only ended up using the one near Sangs bar since that is where all the action seems to be. 4. Room: 4/5. We had the beach pool villa and it was one of the larger ones that we have stayed at in the Maldives. Big room with semi open bathroom area and a large private pool area all to yourself. The rooms were cleaned twice daily, minibar stocked once a day and housekeeping did a great job. Drinking water is replenished daily and is free of charge. All restaurants serve still/sparking water as well. I have deducted one star because for the first two days I was involed a dramatic power struggle with mosquitoes for control of the bathroom area. My wife recently recovered from dengue so I was quite anxious to protect her. Once I started spraying the mosquito repellant placed in the room twice a day in strategic places, the mosquitoes were much less of a problem. Thankfully the room itself is air conditioned and we did not experience any mosquitoes in the room itself. We did spray a very healthy or maybe unhealthy dose of mosquito repellant on our legs whenever we went out. 5. Suggestions for Improvement (for the management) 5.1 Take aggressive measures to control if not eradicate the mosquito population on the island. Not having to worry about mosquitoes will make the stay so much more enjoyable (especially the semi open bathroom area) 5.2 Cover the food items, especially the dessert counters with net/mesh food covers to keep the flies at bay. Though I did see a windmill sort of contraption to keep the flies away, it was not very effective. Maybe an air curtain at the courtyard buffet entrance would be a good bet 5.3 The booking process, payment, booking confirmation can be made more seamless via the website itself as opposed to back and forth over emails. 6. Weather: We luckily had great weather over the course of our stay. The day we arrived was cloudy with some rain during the night. The next two and half days were bright and sunny with rain that started in the evening on the third day and continued till morning. The fourth day was cloudy but dry. The day we left was bright and sunny as well. 7. Tips for fellow travellers 7.1 The speed boat journey from velana airport takes about 55 mins either way. The journey was quite comfortable and we did not experience any sea sickness. A good strategy would be to take a sea sickness pill before you hop on, ensure you are not travelling on an empty stomach and to focus on a far away object that is relatively stationary (not moving as fast), e.g just keep looking at the horizon. 7.2 Carry lots of mosquito repellant All in all really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again.
