We have traveled a lot, but our trip to Heritage Awali was something totally different. The Purpose. From a strategic and management perspective Awali is highly ambitious in direction that it has taken: being green (they have a green card that most hotels don't have) in terms of energy, recycling, eliminating waste and demonstrating awareness on climate and environmental factors. As an example, they utilize solar energy, use recyclable materials, minimize food waste by supplying it to schools, be more efficient in predicting consumption, contribute to community programs such as revitalization of marine ecosystem and charity work. Without knowing all the details, the green card played a key role when we elected Awali for our destination. I think the management can be proud of these achievements and strive to be more visible on this front. The Staff. Apart from all other places have visited before, we felt that special personal touch in all interaction with the staff. We work a lot of with people and it's easy to notice when someone's behavior it's not genuine. Well, at Awali, the staff seem to be very candid and willing to make your stay as good as it can ever be. That highest level and quality of service comes with integrity and natural smile. There's hardly any of that one-size-fits-all type of service that won't deliver that feeling that you are being really taken care for. It's also great that the staff shares information effectively. For example, we didn't have to explain every member of staff that we don't eat meat. Our special diet of not eating meat - not so rare these days - was well-known throughout our stay. Awali seems to invest and focus very strongly on building local talent and have low attrition of staff. Many members of the staff told that they like working for the hotel and that the management treats them well. Needless to say, this has a huge positive impact to the service as well. The Food. There are - at least - four restaurants in Awali. Savana serves mostly continental food in buffet setup, Infinity Blue serves continental food as served dishes, Kifini is their Italian and Zafarani the Indian restaurant. Besides these four, one can enjoy restaurants of Heritage Telfair that is next to Awali. The quality of food is excellent and in Savana and Infinity Blue breakfasts, lunches and dinners were very tasty every time. Local fish is fresh and cooked to perfection according to your taste. There's enough diversity in restaurants to serve everyone's taste. One can eat heavily or lightly, very healthily or somewhat less, ethnic or continental. If you want something customized, just ask for it. We particularly appreciated the wide range of alternatives in vegetables, fruits, fish and desserts. On our last morning, we enjoyed a breakfast with champagne that can be ordered in the reception, highly recommended! The Facilities. Everything is in order, kept clean and functional. There's hardly any plastic anywhere at the hotel which really makes the general feeling more classy and natural. Plastic is passé. Furniture, items and structures are made of wood or natural recyclable materials. Lightning is well designed so that in the evening the hotel flourishes with taste and class while not being kitchy or exaggerating. Soundscapes and music are calm, moderate and not irritating, even during evening performances. Our room was cleaned accurately and in time every day. Public restrooms are comfortable and very clean at all times. Tennis courts were in good condition and maintained regularly. The gym was well equipped. The Activities. There's quite a bit of everything from golf and water activities to different trips available and that information is available on their website. We didn't go for supervised activities, but there's a lot of them available. As a summary it is fair to say that this was absolutely the best vacation of roughly 20 comparable vacations in a resort. Never ever we have felt before that the hotel, it's staff and values are so perfectly fitting on what we value. I would certainly recommend this for everyone, but especially for couples and families. There's a number of people that we'd like to thank for superb hospitality: Shyama the master in our restaurant experience, Melanie the engine in reception just taking care of practicalities and every question we had, Bernard, Anish the master of beverages, Nicola and Steeve in the sports facilities and of course Cliff for everything. In addition, we send our gratitude and warm-hearted regards to Vanessa, Ian, Nitisha, Ramana, Vayraj, Desire, Jean-Pierre, Jocelyn, Avishaye, Keshav, Vashish, Krish and Johanna. You made our vacation just perfect! Read less

Had one of the best time. The welcome received from the staff was great. They were helpful throughout the stay. Food was great. Tried the different restaurants, with the Infinity Blue being the best. Italian food lovers will definitely love the kuzini restaurant. There was great choices at the Savana buffet. Hotel Room though a bit small for a family, was comfy. Amenities that came with it compensated the lack of space. Our room was at a short distance of all the facilities. We had sunset view, poolside view, sea view, garden view and restaurant view. The amount of activities proposed by the hotel is very large. We tried the aqua gym outside the pool, the hotel animators were very encouraging. We met them later for a lesson of archery. Their sense of humour met ours and the 45 mins lesson could not be less lively. There is indeed a wide range of activities if you want to make the most out of the hotel amenities. I tried the spa. Loved the small advices that the lady gave me to help with back pain on a day-to-day basis. Big ups to the whole team there. P.S: Love the welcoming gifts and the departure gift as well. :) Read less
