The hotel

Infused with the charm of its sugar plantation past, this refined hotel retains its colonial style. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel occupies a delightful setting in the Bel Ombre nature reserve, in a tropical garden through which the Citronniers River flows. Suites are spacious, decorated in 19th-century style but with an impressive range of amenities and a private butler at your service. The Seven Colours Spa is a serene haven, with treatments to harmonise body, mind and energy. There are two lovely pools, with access to an additional pool at C Beach Club, water sports in abundance and a nearby championship golf course. Guests have access to 12 restaurants and eight bars across the Domaine de Bel Ombre — there's a wonderful selection of dining at Heritage Le Telfair, including Annabella’s on the banks of the river with an interactive show-kitchen, and Gin’Ja serving Pan Asian cuisine on the beach. Treat yourself to a meal at Le Chateau de Bel Ombre, an enchanting 19th-century manor house, or head to the trendy lifestyle hotspot, C Beach Club.

Stayed a week at Le Telfair & enjoyed their Gourmet Bliss package, which provided excellent value. From beginning to end we could not have been looked after better by the plentiful, well trained, staff. The food in all Restaurants was as good as we have eaten anywhere. Our room, overlooking the river, was extremely clean & comfortable & the Wellness package purchased, 7-treatments in 5-days, was a joy. The Heritage Golf Course attached to the hotel was a pleasure to play & the Lady Marshall, who kept all players’ moving, made our holiday! All in all, an excellent stay & we will return. In the interim, thank you all! Read less

Beautiful hotel, and you will be constantly pampered. The quality of the included (Gourmet bliss)beverage /meals and excursions including golf was exceptional. Family friendly is a understatement. Our kids loved every minute and ladies at the kids club was amazing. Cant wait to visit the hotel again.

We've been to Mauritius several times, and had never found anywhere we liked enough to return. I think HLT will break that pattern - what a lovely hotel. Our room was super comfortable. Huge bed, lovely linens. Very comfortable lounging chair in room, plus sofa. Nice balcony area, relatively comfy seats there too. The bathroom area was spacious, nice walk-in wardrobe. Good service from housekeeping staff/beverages etc. We opted for the AI package, and very glad we did. We ate in most of the restaurants across HLT and Awali. Favourites were Ginja (very tasty, and lovely smiley service from waitress Clara), Le Palmier for lunch every day and a couple of evenings. Ashley lived up to his online reputation, and was hilarious. We also really liked Kertish and Pravesh - fabulous staff. Annabellas was surprisingly good considering we thought it was their 'standard' restaurant (oops!). We didn't rate C Beach Club or their evening versions. Service a bit lacklustre in daytime, and food options just not as good. We went over to Awali - shockingly poor service in their bar compared to the lovely staff in the Cavendish Bar. Zafarani was enjoyable, but Kuzini was hit-or-miss (good 1st time, not so much the 2nd). We were very disappointed with the Golf Club. Very poor quality steaks. Oh - and Anabellas breakfasts were excellent. Loved the juice station. Special paragraph for the Chateau. After a few issues regarding service on our visit, we were persuaded to return, and had an AWESOME evening. They selected our menu options and provided paired wines. I can honestly say that it rates up there with the best places I've eaten (and I've eaten in a lot of top-rated restaurants in my time). Kudos! Melvin our butler was lovely. I don't think we troubled him too much except for one occasion where I had a bit of a medical problem. One WhatsApp message later, Melvin had arranged for Dr Amrita to find me, and she sorted me out pronto. Just superb service! We tended to lounge by the main pool and were very entertained by the waiting staff vying to see who could bring our first drinks of the day (and so get the tip). It got to the point that OH was fending off beers (NOT like him at all), as constant refreshers were brought as the day progressed! A lovely touch in the morning was a small platter of fruit cocktails brought with the waters. Too many names to mention, but Priscilla was an especial joy. The only (very) minor niggle - our 'sea view' room didn't really have a proper sea view, compared to others. We were right on the end, practically next to the C Beach Club, so had a view of the trees on the lawns. Would probably ask for a different block next time. Although being at the far end of the resort did mean we got lots of exercise walking back and forth.... The hotel is lovely, with fabulous grounds (especially so up at the chateau). We didn't leave the resort during our two weeks, and didn't feel at all stir-crazy as it is so spacious. Very nice clientele - although it was clearly a school holiday period for some nationalities visiting, children were typically very well-behaved. Never any lack of loungers/beach towels. I suspect we will be returning at some point - highly recommended. Read less

It was a beautiful setting with a variety of exceptional restaurants to choose from - the gourmet bliss package was wonderful! We couldn't fault the service and care from all the staff - they helped to make our stay incredibly relaxed and pleasurable. I have become a wheelchair user in recent years and the staff at Le Telfair could not do enough to help me, which meant a great deal to me and for which I will always be grateful to them. Read less

Our stay over Xmas and New Year was our 5th in as many years having been to Awali twice before. Le Telfair excels in everything they do. We had a Garden View Suite overlooking the river and took the "Gourmet Bliss" Package - all inclusive of golf, meals, drinks, etc. 'Jossy' was our "Residents Host" and who looked after us in May 2018 when we celebrated our our Golden Wedding at Le Telfair. She is such a lovely person, always a big smile and nothing is too much trouble for her to re-arrange golf, restaurants, etc. The Front Desk, Concierge, Guest Relations Staff and Golf Club staff are all happy people and always courteous. Even the gardeners always speak!!!! The room is spacious and has everything that you need whilst on holiday. Apart from restaurants at Awali and Le Chateau that you may wish to visit all the others are close at hand and easy walking. Transport available to/from Awali and Golf Club. Nice beach and pool, lots of water sports, cycling, nature trails to keep everyone busy. We, unfortunately, had to suffer Cyclone Calvin with its 400mm of rain and storm winds. It lasted 2 days and caused chaos but the resort came to the rescue and changed around restaurants because some had to close. All this was done with minimal fuss and it worked well. I never heard a complaint from any guest when the staff were working under difficult conditions. Le Telfair is truly a magnificent place to stay for any occasion. Le Chateau is THE restaurant to enjoy and the Gala Meals at Xmas and New Year were out of this world. Don't miss out on Ginja's, Annabella's, C-Beach Club, Le Palmier. At Awali you can enjoy Kuzini, Infinity Blue and Zafarani (see my TripAdvisor reports). I have already started the process of booking for Xmas and New Year 2020!!! Read less
