This was our first visit to Mauritius and based on it we think we would love to return. Heritage le Telfair is set in extensive grounds, with well tended woodland gardens and the river running through is a nice feature. There are plenty of activities on offer, gym, tennis, paddle tennis, cycling, none motorised water sports and many more. We played both of the hotels 18 hole golf courses, Le Chateau and La Reserve. Both are very good. The service in both clubhouses was excellent. On our visit the greens at Le Chateau were in excellent condition and quick. La Reserve is a relatively new course. It is special, with a special welcome for all golfers. Some guests warned us that it was the hardest course that they had ever played. My wife and I found it very playable. We have played a few Peter Matkovich courses and they have all been memorable. The views and all of the staff were brilliant. We stayed in a Deluxe Seaview Suite and opted for the Half Board package. We made this choice as we drink very little and did not want to play golf every day. If you opt for the Gourmet Bliss package, drinks and daily golf (including buggies and practice balls) are included. We were able to use all of the restaurants, which we did. The menus at all of them were very varied and well presented. They went from casual to high end dining, Le Château was a highlight for us. We enjoyed the hotel spa. The treatments and the staff were, as usual, excellent. One of the best features of the hotel management is that you are allocated a host for your stay. That gave us a single point of contact for booking whatever we wanted to do. We were hosted by Noor. He was a delight. He made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Whatever activity we wanted to do he sorted it for us, remarkably always at our preferred time. One day we had an issue with noisy plumbing in our room and he ensured the issue was dealt with to our entire satisfaction. All of this obviously comes at a cost but if you want a wonderful and luxurious holiday, we could not recommend Heritage Le Telfair more highly. Read less

The Heritage Estate is huge, besides two hotels (we stayed in Le Telfair, the other next door is Alawi), there are two golf courses which are amazing and several villas and apartments around the Le Chateau golf course. The estate used to be sugar cane and there is a beautiful restored Chateau Bel Ombre which I understand was the house of the sugar boss. The setting of the estate between the sea and the mountains is stunning. We chose an all inclusive tariff (referred to as 'gourmet bliss'), because we essentially wanted a golf holiday, so green fees and buggy were in the package. Le Chateau is a very good test, but fair and playable for higher handicaps as well as the single figures. The newer links course La Reserve is definitely more for the latter and even they would be wise to carry a good dozen balls since anything off the fairway in the penal high grass is a lost one and the wind often blows strong! But the condition of both courses is first class and the scenic views are really special. Also the frequent shuttle service to the golf club from the hotel through the well kept gardens was fun. The room we had was a large room with bathroom and small veranda overlooking the small river which meanders through the hotel grounds to the sea, which was about 400 metres away. The bed was king size and the seating with arm chair and settee very comfortable. The concierge service morning and evening was exemplary. There are 5 restaurants in the hotel grounds with a further 2 'a la carte' at the golf club and the Chateau Bel Ombre. We had excellent experience at all, except we did not have time to taste the fine dining at the chateau. The staff in all areas were extremely attentive to us and efficient. Our golfing days meant that we did not take advantage of the activities or the easy time on the clean beaches or pools. Not having any experience of other 5 star resorts (of which there are many) in Mauritius, means I cannot properly judge the price competitiveness of the Telfair, but I left with the impression that the 'gourmet bliss" option was very good value. Myself, my partner (now wife) and 20 month old son have just come home to the UK after 10 incredible days at the Heritage Le Telfair. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we’ve experienced first class treatment from all the staff, food on a different level and a resort which is simply sublime. Add to that that whilst we were there we were married on the grounds (at the Ginja restaurant) which provided not only an incredibly romantic and special moment for myself and my (now) wife, our son and our visiting family but also provided the most amazing backdrop at sunset along with unbelievable food. The Gourmet bliss package is absolutely worth the extra spend and dinner on our final night at Le Chateaux really did top off 10 amazing nights. We must make special reference to Heena who has been helping up plan our wedding for the last year and absolutely nailed it on the day, plus all the extra bits she kindly took care of across our stay. The entire resort is beautiful and we managed to eat at just about all the restaurants, all of which made dining with a 20 month old a breeze, including the elegant Le chateaux. We will be back, that is an absolute certainty. Read less

A beautiful resort with great service and atmosphere. Stylish colonial architecture, but the resort is quite new. Reasonable priced and a lot of things to do in the surroundings, like hiking and playing golf. Transfer from the airport takes about one hour.

This was our third stay at the Heritage Le Telfair in a row and, yet again, the hotel has upped it’s standards in so many areas, mainly due to the dedication of the general manager Dominique Grel and his team. Firstly we noticed that the already high standard of cuisine has been further enhanced in all restaurants! Every meal was a delight, especially for someone who has a severe allergy. The hotel now has a dedicated member of staff, Randy, who contacted me daily to find out where I was dining and offering me alternatives to the menu. It was the first time that I ate every day and had not a single problem. I am truly grateful. Secondly we noticed that different little touches have been added, such as more comfortable such lounger cushions, a cubicle around the shower on the beach with shower gel, shampoo etc for privacy, G’inja’s has had a refurbishment and so much more. The staff are all smiling, happy and engaged and Dominique is seen engaging with them every day. For golf lovers such as ourselves, although only beginners, the golf is superb and has been further enhanced by the addition of Le Reserve golf course which rivals the top courses of the world. Truly challenging and spectacular scenery. We are not of a standard to attempt that yet but we thoroughly enjoyed playing the par 3 nine hole course which is kept in superb condition and really improved our golf. The Le Chateau golf team are, as always, so helpful and become friends by the end of your stay. The staff at the hotel are second to none and it is difficult to name individuals as they are all so helpful but Yoven at Annabella’s and Le Palmier stands out as being outstanding, remembering our coffee, wine, allergy, food etc all without a word and a big smile. Jennifer also needs to be mentioned amongst the waiting team as very dedicated, ensuring everything was as we liked it in her quiet, unstated manner. Laurent, acting head sommelier, was extremely knowledgeable and always made very good recommendations in his lovely chatty manor. Noor, our guest concierge, was absolutely amazing. He is a true professional and will go far. His dedication and professionalism are beyond expectations and we could not have asked for more. We would also like to mention Azagen from the housekeeping team, who went above and beyond when we had a couple of tiny issues with our room. The dedication, smiles and memory for drinks orders of the outstanding team at The Cavendish also deserves a mention. We have returned home from our holiday relaxed, refreshed and vowing to return to this stunning resort. Thank you all for caring for us so well. Read less
