We booked a golf holiday with 10 rounds of golf but only managed 2 full rounds with a buggy due to torrential rain. It was so wet the golf course was closed, when it opened we were told first come first served for 9 holes with a push trolley as there were only a few available. We sat on our balcony watching the rain as everything was cancelled, all the trips, water sports, tennis and outdoor restaurants were shut. There was a shortage of umbrellas and paths were flooded. We asked what could we do but the only option was Thai Chi? The television was very limited with no guide as to what was on. We only swam in the main pool once in 10 days as it was cold. The staff assured us we were unlucky due to global warming to have such bad weather in November. We tried to move hotels but were unable to negotiate any compensation from the hotel. They would not even give us a complimentary round on the new course which had just opened (and was drier than the Chateau course). We felt they could have at least done this for us but they wanted to charge us 300 euros. Read less

Our stay with Heritage Le Telfair was fantastic. The service provided by all members of staff was outstanding. Sanjula our host during our stay was superb! I am vegetarian and Sanjula ensured that my requets were met at all time, she even took the time when she was off duty to check up on us and make sure that we were happy. My wife and I are very grateful for all she did. Thank you Sanjula! I would also like to specifically mention Chonnee. We had requested local Mauritian food at our candlelit dinner at Le Palmier and wow, he presented a fantastic array of Mauritian vegetarian dishes for me. I stayed in Mauritius for 14 days (Heritage, Sand Suites and Lux Grande Gaube), I ate all hotels and at local restaurants in Chamarel, Flic en Flac and Port Louis and Chonnee's dinner was by far the best... it did help being in a wonderful setting but nevertheless the food was outstanding! Thank you Chonnee. The food generally at Hertiage was delicious and a wonderful array was presented at breakfast, your usual intercontinental (but good choices and well made pastries) but also local Mauritian food was provided. Le Palmier's menu was delicious! The sommelier at Le Palmier, Jeremy, was excellent, lovely man and his service was brilliant! The room was excellent, very well furnished and everyday the room was cleaned very well and turn down service was great, the cleaners left the room immaculate and consistent every day and night. Thank you Reshma and especially Eloji - thank you! Rishi, the barman at Ginja made fantastic cocktails and also modified our drinks per our requests very well - thank you! We hired bikes from Ali, who was very helpful and nice young man. Thank you Ali! Lastly, we were on our honeymoon and we would like to thank all members of Hertiage Le Telfair who extended their greetings to us, the bottle of processco in our room was a nice touch, the candle lit dinner provided to us was very much appreciated and other things that was generally done throughout our stay was very thoughtful and we were grateful for choosing this hotel. We met Paris (I think the manager) when we first arrived and just wanted to stay Thank you too, I think she had something to do with the little things that were provided to us on our arrival. Sanjula, from Meera and I, very happy to have met you a last thank you to you for all you did! Read less

I have seen a couple of very detailed reviews here, which I thought were rather accurate, so will focus on the key things from our experience. The best things about the hotel were its beautiful facilities and kind and engaged staff who were all so good to our 3-year old daughter, who had a blast and felt very spoiled all the way. The kids club we felt was better suited to older kids, so whilst it takes kids from all ages and the ladies there were very kind to our daughter, the set up was better suited to older kids who were more independent. The gym was very well equipped, situated in a standalone bright and airy building. A small thing but there was a lack of exercise mats and those that there were could do with replacing. The hotel benefits from several restaurants that you get access to. We thought the food was adequate, some dishes really good, but could do with greater variety over all. The beach is gorgeous but bear in kind that due to strong currents there were days you could not swim in the sea. the two pools on site however were great and very clean (despite the sand situation - see below). the heated pool particularly very popular with families - a great add. One thing that puzzled me somewhat was that half the area around the main pool was paved and the other half had sand around it. this meant that the loungers by the poolside stood on the sand - there was therefore no getting away from dragging a fair amount of sand into the pool. there were footbaths at some points of entry, but not all (and not everyone would use these, and they would only be replaced once a day anyway). The spa is top notch. I had acupressure with Rama, who managed to have fixed my tight neck and wonky hips in just two sessions. The yoga sessions were excellent, I would only recommend adding more of these to the schedule. The photography session is highly recommended. we got some of the best photos we ever had of us as a family. The hotel's beautiful surroundings helped too. The staff were so so friendly. They really make the hotel and the Mauritian hospitality. One thing that we felt could be improved: the towel rules, i.e., that you were required to take the towels back to the room at the end of the day, and get fresh towels with the room service the next day. This should be scrapped to my mind. (1) most guests would be out of the room before waiting for room service, (2) if you are a family with kids, there is enough to drag back and forth to the pool/beach without the towels add on. In reality most guests would just get the towels from the pool side, which was fine in most cases. In summary, we loved the hotel. I hope the above does not sound too negative, as the overall experience was extremely positive. we will be back. the small things that would make the hotel one's number one choice are easy to fix. thank you for a fantastic time! Wonderful hotel in beautiful grounds. Staff were amazing and always willing to help - especially our customer service host Noor. We’d have given 5 stars but there were a few minor things that need putting right but once these were pointed out they were rectified to our satisfaction. The staff were always smiling & happy to engage so it was a shame to see some guests rude & arrogant towards them. Our host pre-booked all our dinner reservations for us and in the main they were excellent. There’s a huge number of restaurants between Le Telfair & its sister hotel the Alwali. We went to a different restaurant every night & still didn’t get to them all. Some places were much better than others. Read less
