Been here for a week, for sure it was the best holliday so far. As we had a special occasion, my wife’s birthday, the staff arranged a beautiful beach dinner with bonfire. The beach access was within a 5 minute walk. The beach front bar and food service was prompt. Regular bar food was served on the beach; and the many hawkers made for interesting shopping. The barefoot wedding was exquisite; reception on the beach outstanding. The fireworks after dinner put a sparkling end to the evening. There are other resorts nearby who share tennis courts and bicycle trails. Read less

This was our 6th visit to La Pirogue and I will hopefully be back again! We were a party of 6 adults including my 2 daughters and their partners and stayed for 10 nights from 9-19 December. I requested rooms in the Vinca section of the hotel via email and upon arrival we were given Garden Bungalows 160, 161 and 162 in the exact area we requested. We like this area as it is close enough to the restaurant but without noise disturbance, and also close enough to Sugar Beach Hotel, as you can share their facilities. Check-in was quick and we received a welcome drink and refreshing towels. We were staying Half Board and were glad we were not AI as there were quite a number of items which you still had to pay either a surcharge or full price for on AI. It was convenient for us to walk to the closest shops to purchase extra water, cold drinks and beers and we had brought our own duty free limit wine and some spirits. Corkage for the wine was very reasonable. The rooms have been revamped since we were last there and have a bo-ho chic feel to them. One of my few complaints was that our room had hair in the shower drain on arrival but this was sorted out the next day and also that occasionally one of our three rooms would not receive their complimentary water for the day. Any problems were quickly dealt with though. The buffet at the revamped restaurant Wolmar was of a good quality, with theme nights held most nights and very good variety. There were hardly ever queues either. We ate at Mon Plaisir at Sugar Beach the one evening and concluded that we preferred the food at LP. It was also very hot there whist it was much cooler at Wolmar. (We did have a heat wave while we were there with temperatures of 33C and real feel 38C!) The beach had more than enough loungers and thatch umbrellas and there was a constant supply of fluffy white towels. We also enjoyed that you can now order items like salads and toasted sandwiches on the beach at lunch time. We did have lunch at Le Morne Beach Bar a few times and once at Coconut Cafe, and the quality was also good. As my husband and I had just celebrated our 28th anniversary 2 days before we arrived, and because we are repeat visitors, we were fortunate to receive a complimentary dinner at the Seafood BBQ on the beach for our family courtesy of the General manager Mr Andrew Slome. This food was exceptional. We really appreciated this gesture and also that he personally came and introduced himself to us at the cocktail party we were invited to on our second day. The guys in our party went scuba diving a couple of times with Sundivers and were impressed by their professionalism. We also did yoga, aqua aerobics, played mini golf, petanque, took out the Hobicat, windsurfed, SUP'ed, went on the pedalos and took 2 excursions out of the hotel (catamaran trip to see the dolphins and speed boat trip on the east coast to snorkel and have lobster lunch on Ile aux Cerfs) which we had prearranged. Two small complaints are that the mini golf does not have enough putters (we shared 1 between 6 of us) and did not have score cards on one occasion, and that the games room at Sugar beach now closes at 10.30 (we used to play pool there until midnight previously and my daughters used to enjoy meeting other teens there when they were younger) and that the games room had no air-con and was boiling hot. The evening entertainment was of a pretty high standard, also with themes, but it would be nice if there were some more chairs put out for people to watch the shows as people often had to stand, and also if smoking was prohibited in the area around the show. Staff that stood out for us were Vinod, Subraj, Mimi, Sachin the sommelier, and Kamla who I recognise from our previous visits. She is a wonderful waitress and always has a big smile to greet you in the morning. The receptionists were also very helpful but I unfortunately did not get their names. Thanks again to everyone at LP who made our holiday special and we hope to be back again soon (even though the exchange rate for the Rand is making Mauritius more and more expensive for South Africans) Read less

We (family of 4, 2 teenagers kids) spent 9 days at La Pirogue in December 2019. Our feedback is excellent: beautiful place, marvelous garden , sea and beach, great staff, restaurants and management. We choose the beach pavilion rooms, definitely recommended as it is literally a few steps from a white quite beach, perfectly equipped for relaxing (towels and beach beds always available) and for sports. We have appreciated the organization of the sea activities (kayak, sailing, paddles, trip to the reef , swimming with dolphins, whales watching ...) as well as the other activities like yoga and gym in the morning: thank you to the sport staff for the perfect and always smiling organization! We could even meet and talk to some marine biologists of the university of Mauritius, explaining their reef reconstruction project and we could participate to it....that it awesome and so important for our planet in these days, thank you guys and well done! Restaurants and food are very good, we have particularly appreciated the chef and the staff of the Magenta restaurant, a unique location and experience. In one word, everything was far above expectations...we will be back! Read less
