The food was great at Wolmar restaurant, on the our last evening we treated ourselves to dinner at Magenta, which is well worth a visit. Watching the sunset with a cold beer at the beach bar is a highlight of the day. Sad to have to leave, but thank you for a great holiday with lots of memories. Read less

We celebrated my husband's 70th birthday in August by taking the whole family for a week's stay at La Pirogue. We were seven adults and four children under the ages of 10. I can honestly say that this was the best family holiday we have had in a long time. The hotel is stylish, but unpretentious, and the lush grounds are probably the most beautiful I've seen in a resort. My husband used to be in the hotel business so we are fairly critical of most of the places we stay at. In our opinion, it is very difficult to beat La Pirogue for a family holiday (or just a couple) - it's location right on the beach is perfect, it's rich, tropical gardens are just glorious, the restaurant food options are varied, and the multitude of options to keep children occupied are brilliant. The staff at the resort are outstanding. There are so many names that stand out - Sandra and Vanessa at Reception, porter Pravin, cocktail buggy driver Vejay, and restaurant and bar team - Jeewun, Salonee, Sophie, Kamla, Jacques, Nissan, Ravin, Goodeo, Kiran, James, and especially the wonderful Ajay from the Magenta Restaurant. He and Chefs, Vishel and Amalen created such magic for our family. The holiday was so special at La Pirogue that we will definitely be booking future holidays at this truly stunning resort. Read less

Enjoyed our 8th visit here but I had some problems with the food this time. I am vegetarian with some pretty severe food allergies which the hotel duly noted as they have on previous visits. This time however, despite giving kitchen staff a requested list of what I could eat and my allergies I was disappointed when every night I was told to see what was on the buffet even when it was obvious some nights there was nothing suitable. Before they have cooked alternatives when there was nothing suitable but this time they were reluctant to do so and I found dinner a real struggle most nights. Desserts werent always labelled. We booked Citronella one night as we've dined here before several times. We were shocked however to find that since the restaurant was renovated there was a hefty supplement, and you were allowed only R900 credit. At no time were we told of this new development by the restaurant concierge when booking, by the wait staff at the restaurant itself and were shocked when we saw a hefty bill. Only then were we informed of the changes - too late. We mentioned it the following day to one of La Pirogue's staff who said he was sorry and would make a note of it. On checking out we again mentioned how disappointed we were and they again apologized and removed the drinks from the bill - which made little difference. The food was perfect however but it should be made clear to guests that dining at Citronella now incurs a hefty supplement. The beach now has "cocoons" and kiosks in addition to sunbeds, another new development, but one that in my opinion results in an overcrowded beach. I preferred it when there were just the sunbeds. Room nice as ever and this time the weighing scales worked. 😊 Grounds totally relaxing and very quiet. Complimentary water daily but they insisted on providing one bottle of still water and one sparkling despite confirming they would leave only still water as requested prior to the stay. We pointed it out every day and every day they provided both. Housekeeping good as ever, but the bed was hard and the pillows not as comfy as before. We paid R2500 for a late checkout which was appreciated as we had a late night flight. Thanks to all staff especially Fardeen and Andrew, Vanessa in reception and Vinod in the restaurant who kindly supplied a plaster for my cut finger one night! He was also the one who made sure I was provided with a suitable alternative when I struggled with the menu, but this was only 3 times out of 10 nights when he was our waiter. Hope to see you again soon! Read less

Apart from the glorious setting one of the main qualities that we love about the hotel are the staff. They really make it feel like a home from home. We have to thank Prayag, Vinod, Lobin, Mimi and Josiane for their wonderful service at meal times. Avinesh was extremely helpful and courteous and sorted out any tiny niggles in a flash! The food was amazing and a special mention to Daniel who was a chief in the mornings for his warm greetings every day. The sunsets seen from the hotel beach are to die for. I do hope we can return next year. Read less
