La Pirogue is a well appointed hotel in a beautiful location, with friendly, helpful staff. So this should be a 5 star review. But we encountered a recurring problem that was irritating, and loses a couple of stars. We were on an all-inclusive deal that professed to allow us to eat in any of the restaurants, both in La Pirogue and its adjacent sister hotel, Sugar Beach. Most days we were told that most (all?) of the restaurants were unavailable, and one night we turned up at Sugar Beach with our confirmation slip for one of the restaurants only to be told that the booking - made at La Pirogue - wasn’t recognised. There were a series of conferences on at La Pirogue during our stay, and their delegates seemed to swamp the facilities, so perhaps that was the root of the problem. Sun Hotels need to work out whether La Pirogue is a business or a tourist hotel, and to get management at La Pirogue and Sugar Beach singing from the same songsheet. Read less

Also presents wonderful garden areas & a long white sand beach with warm & clear waters. Great food and 03-04 different spaces for eating/drinking. Several water sports included are also available. And for me, the most important detail are their STAFF... amazing people, efficient, gentle, kind, always with a smile on their faces. I have to give a special thanks to Mr Ashok, Mr Parwez, Mr Ravin, Mr Fardeen, Mrs Kavita & Mrs Mimi, which make my stay an incredible memory! I will be back! Read less

I write this email as I “ enjoy “ my island holiday inMauritius at La Pirogue Hotel Without going into detail for those of us keen to have an overseas holiday post COVID rather wait. Right now you can expect to pay more, place your money at risk ( a 4th wave ) put up with a lot of extra hassles at airports and hotels only to find that with all the uncertainty all hotels are offering diminished or curtailed services I have holidayed at La P many times and am bitterly disappointed. This hotel has been on care and maintenance for the COVID period and it shows I can give you along list of disappointments which would generally apply to most of the “ hospitality “ industry and La P in particular but you will definitely not get the standard that you previously got Irrespective of the fact that you pay full board most services are not up to scratch and the attitude is “ well what do you expect with COVID My advise is to rather wait it out as a overseas holiday right now has to many frustrations (They stuck a ear bud so far up my nose that I got a nose bleed) As for coming back to La Pirogue it is a case of once bitten twice shy For anyone interested I can give you a list of specifics as well as photos but expect to be told to wear your mask, expect a tired hotel and that the boutique restaurants within the hotel to be fully booked now matter how early you want to have a dinner at that one special restaurant, electrical plug boxes in the gardens are open and a danger to children pathways are overgrown …… the list goes on and on If you must go on holiday prepare yourself for less than what you traditionally would have expected RATHER WAIT UNTIL THINGS GET BACK TO NORMAL Calvin Billett November 2021 Read less
