Virgin rating

The hotel

With a stunning sunset location, flanked by UNESCO World Heritage Site Le Morne Peak, this LUX* resort also overlooks an endless stretch of golden beach. Sheltered from trade winds and on the quiet side of the island, it’s an ideal place to catch up on some R&R. Landscaped gardens surround you, dotted with five swimming pools — select your favourite and pull up a lounger. Romantic in feel, the hotel is also ideal for families, with a superb kids' club offering activities such as treasure hunts, art classes and tennis lessons. Water sports abound, try your hand at snorkelling, water-skiing or kite-surfing perhaps. If you prefer dry land, no worries — team up with friends for a game of volleyball or hire a bike to explore the lush interior. Come sundown, the pace picks up slightly. Head to The Bar for cocktails and live music, or while away the hours in East, feasting on delicious Thai cuisine. Set right beside the ocean, The Beach is also highly recommended, serving up Italian fare in a relaxed setting.

Overall an excellent hotel. Rooms are good, spacious, and well appointed. Excellent location. Staff very friendly (Paul particularly). Things to watch out for: Concierge service chaotic/ineffectual. We asked them to arrange a cab, lunch at a local restaurant and a tour of a local distillery. They managed the cab, but not the restaurant and having said that we didn’t need to book at the distillery we then sat for 20mins as there are tours at specific times. This process took 2 attempts over 2 days. Organise things yourself of use a tour company. Notionally you have a choice of restaurants when you’re at the hotel, however whilst they tell you you need to book them with one day’s notice, when we tried we were advised they were booked for the week. Poor form for a 5* hotel. I asked for someone to address this with me, nobody did. The buffet in the main restaurant has some good food (the Indian corner and the grill station specifically) but you will want to eat elsewhere from time to time so book before you travel. The cocktails at the main bar are average at best. Those at the Rum bar are notably better (ask Paul, he’ll steer you right). Overall, a 5* hotel with some areas for improvement in service. Read less

The service we received mainly from the buffet restaurant and the Rum bar was way below average! The staff were miserable and delivering a good service was the last thing they wanted to do. They were rude and simply careless. The food was very good and a good range of options. The beach on one side is very rough on the feet and the other is a lot softer. The rooms were nicely decorated and the outdoor after was comfortable and relaxing. Unfortunately we struggle to understand why this hotel is so highly priced as there wasn’t anything exception about it. 3 star at best! Read less

Currently sat in our room looking to find an alternative destination. I've looked through a lot of these reviews and have come to the conclusion that most of the people writing these fabulous reviews have never stayed in a 5 star hotel before The website sells the dream, and the pictures look amazing. We're in a suite we have to travel up. What looks like a fire escape to get to our room. The restaurant looks fab but it's just a massive buffet with very poor service. Bar service is very slow and it's impossible to get served at the bar, very ignorant staff. Last night they had a great little act playing in the lounge area but unfortunately, everyone had gone before the band finished because they couldn't get served It's a mediocre place, if it's your first time in what's called luxury you might love it, if you've travelled a bit its nothing special. Spend your money elsewhere! Maldives probably half the price but twice the luxury and much better rooms We've just travelled from a lodge in kruger and that's a 5 star luxury. Fantastic food, impeccable service treated like guests, not a number Read less

An amazing resort with potentially the best beach in the area - world class facilities including snorkelling and dolphin trips - a range of dining and bar facilities which are all extremely good. However the staff and the culture of excellent customer care that ‘s exhibited everywhere that really makes the difference. Unexpected glitches are the time when you see how a great team responds. Full marks for the Lux Le Morne team for the way that they responded and exceeded our expectations. It’s impractical - and in some ways unfair - to call out some and not others but, our special thanks to: Isabel the Resort Manager, Executive Chef Saurabh Maheshwari, Hurvind and Jason for their care and attention to detail, along with Gabi, Chef Rahoo, Azra for her amazing pastries, and Daminee, Vyshee, Hans, Ashvina, the Boat House Team, Anne & the Spa Team and Nandini for their care that made each day special. Thank you to you all for an amazing experience. Read less

You sold us a dream, we bought the dream, you Lux Le Morne delivered the dream. We have so many words but will try to sum it up in few. This stunningly, beautiful resort was every bit of 5* Luxury that we were promised. Staff and Managers, all of them, went above and beyond. Thank you from both of us.
