Solana Beach Mauritius

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Waiting for your drinks to arrive as you laze on white sands, shaded by a coconut palm. Taking a dip in a lagoon pool among tropical plants and dining and drinking terraces. Stepping out on your balcony to soak in endless sea views before heading out for dinner. This may be the stuff of daydreams, but it’s the true island experience guests come to enjoy when staying at the adults-only Solana Beach. It does deliver a delicious cliché, but this hotel also comes with its own unique twists, like the nod to the sixties and seventies in your spacious guestroom, which is otherwise thoroughly modern. It also gives you the option to do absolutely nothing – or to pack your days with cycling, diving, snorkelling, and even complimentary glass-bottom boat trips, and your nights with island entertainment and meals in three delectable restaurants.

Breakfast was very delicious & had a good variety starting from eggs & baked beans to pancakes to aloo paratha to orange juice! Dan from Cinnamone restaurant gave us good suggestions on food, along with preparing my favourite 2 eggs sunny-side up! Dinner buffet had a different theme each day, starting from the Mediterranean, Creole (the local Mauritian cuisine), Indian, Asian, etc. 3) Room: Booked the spacious junior suite room which had a good sea-view, along with a jacuzzi! 4) Check out: The hotel management was generous enough to agree for a late check-out without any additional charges. Overall experience: Very Good! Read less

I arrived very early and even though the check-in time is at 2 pm, I got my room earlier. I have to say special thanks to Chris who was really nice with me.It was my birthday and he got me a delicious cocktail and a birthday cake. They made my day. I will stay in la Solana Beach if I come back for sure. Read less

We have just got back home from a weeks stay at the Solana Beach. What can we say other than ‘Fabulous’. The staff are all amazing, so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Our room was fit for purpose but the view from our balcony was truly outstanding, as they all have sea views, what a view. Always cleaned well every day. The food was always of a high standard, the Pomelo restaurant was fabulous, entertainment most nights was good. The cocktails were too tasty, we sampled quite a few. Reception were always happy to help with any query. My husband had his birthday whilst we were at the Solana and it was made to be very special by the staff in the Pomelo Restaurant, he even got a birthday cake. Special thanks to Marcus, Head waiter and Ryan the chef, at the Pomelo for making it such a special night. We would also like to mention Dev, our waiter in the Cinnamon restaurant and Vinesh the bar man at the Indigo bar, Mr Sunny who was always helpful, and reception manager Veer for being so helpful on our last day. We loved it so much, we miss you all and hope to see you again soon. Read less

Our experience of this resort was that it is amazing. This was our first ever long haul vacation and so we didn't quite know what to expect. We were thrilled with what we found and experienced at the resort. Don't expect high-end luxury in the rooms, they are clean, neat, tidy, well furnished, comfortable and contain all needed to thoroughly enjoy your trip, but some items are hand made and thus add to the ambience of the place. The service was fabulous, the staff happy, smiling and friendly and the facilities were varied. Sea shoes are a must for the beach unless the soles of your feet are made of leather as the sand also contains broken coral and shells, but if you can get past that the setting is idyllic. We have to thank Rakesh, Rita, Devan to name but a few, who made our experience most enjoyable. If you have the chance, have a secluded meal for two at the Gazebo :) We loved that due to celebrating my husband's birthday while there. Thank you Rajnee for suggesting it. The resort even provided a birthday cake for my husband and Rakesh entertained us towards the end of our meal that evening :) Something you should also know is that all beaches in Mauritius are public, but apparently the beaches in Belle Mare are the best on the island which I don't doubt. Oh and if you are planning to go on excursions, if you take a local taxi anywhere you shall discover that their rates are far more favourable to those of your tour operator. We booked two excursions online from the UK prior to leaving and so came across taxi drivers that way. We didn't take them up on their offers, but they were helpful, friendly, knowledgable and far cheaper :) Read less
