The hotel

Waiting for your drinks to arrive as you laze on white sands, shaded by a coconut palm. Taking a dip in a lagoon pool among tropical plants and dining and drinking terraces. Stepping out on your balcony to soak in endless sea views before heading out for dinner. This may be the stuff of daydreams, but it’s the true island experience guests come to enjoy when staying at the adults-only Solana Beach. It does deliver a delicious cliché, but this hotel also comes with its own unique twists, like the nod to the sixties and seventies in your spacious guestroom, which is otherwise thoroughly modern. It also gives you the option to do absolutely nothing – or to pack your days with cycling, diving, snorkelling, and even complimentary glass-bottom boat trips, and your nights with island entertainment and meals in three delectable restaurants.

The atmosphere at the reception felt a bit chaotic when we get there but soon after we were accompanied by a lady to the bar for a welcome drink which was nice. After a while we got some snacks there were surprisingly tasty. We get nice views from the restaurant's balcony and some nice pictures spot. Sadly it was raining the whole day we didn't get to enjoy the sea activities (they have padalo, kayak, glass bottom) The swimming is not that big but nice. We got to play table tennis. The table and some of the racket is nice and some of them need to be changed. The drinks at the bar was terrible. It would be nice to work on them and do some improvement. I would recommend to stick with water or soft drinks. The cocktails, mocktails and some of the juices (orange juice) didn't taste good. And we couldn't drink them. Foodwise, we had a nice lunch. Tea time was not tempting at all because of all the flies around the crepe's container, in the sugar and coconut powder. No one even bothered. Read less

It was supposed a luxury all inclusive holiday, which is what we purchased the hotel try and get money out of you for anything possible The staff didn’t care at all The room we stayed in had cockroaches and geckos The towels were worn out with holes in the air conditioning unit was pouring water out onto the floor The private beach had black Tar that was not cleaned up And ruined our sandals Only one restaurant was included in the all inclusive which you only find out on arrival we were constantly asked what package we had before we could even sit down for dinner, or drinks at the bar and to top it off we paid for a meal in the pomelo restaurant Only to find hair in my food No apology at all ! The buffet restaurant has birds flying in and sitting in the food baskets and tables Totally unhygienic In the bar one night there was drinks spilt on the floor Staff instead of cleaning up So not dangerous stood around talking I had to ask them to clean it up before we could sit down! Although the settings around the hotel is lovely the hotel itself i would rate a very week 3 star. We booked our honey moon threw TUI and on the website we were sold an amazing hotel were there is 3 resturants 2 bars and it was all inclusive. YOU GET ONE resturant and the rest you have to pay for. On our arrival at the hotel we were placed in our room. There was black mold EVERYWHERE. On the celings, on the walls, shower, tiles everywhere. Plugs sockets hanging out of the wall. I put my hand on the sink which then fell off. I went to reception who stated that the general manager would come. 10 minutes later the maintenance manager came to the room whos words were the room was discusting and not fit for purpose. He pleaded with us to stay in the room for one night and then he will upgrade our room in the morning and told to go to reception at midday. Midday came and we were told . currently being painted. At 5pm we were moved to our new room where patched paint work and varnish work had been done which was still soaking wet along the smell was awful and there was still black mold everywhere. After refusing to stay in this room we had no other choice but to go back to the previous room. After contacting tui on there messanger app we were told that someone would get back to us within 24hr. We were informed that the hotel was at capacity and we couldn't move rooms. 1 WEEK later we were moved to a junior suite which on entry stank like a mens urinal in the bathroom, the light switches do not work and some of the lightbulbs were not working. The staff hear are outrageously rude/racist the management couldnt care less about what you have to say, they give the same robotic answer. The hotel is at full capicity however as this hotel is money grabbing you have 40-60 day guests who turn up everyday who get treated like royalty, service around the pool along with special food. Once you have checked in and the hotel gets your money you do not get any of that. The decking around the pool and bar is falling apart and when telling management they dont care. Cockroaches, birds have been seen on multiple occassions on the food. THE LIST GOES ON. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to another hotel. Even the locals whilst out when they hear the hotel name they say Oh no Read less

I wish to bring the atrocious service of your Solana Hotel to your attention. In essence, I have been waiting over two months for my refund, unsuccessfully. It is important to detail the poor service from the onset of my stay, simply stated at Solana the customer is always wrong, and they will make sure you understand it. The only reason I opted to continue staying here was the fact that my 2-day booking was non-refundable. On arrival, the porter did not want to assist us immediately, as he was not aware of our booking. Irrespective of whether I have a booking or not, he is customer-facing and should manage customers as guests and not a nuisance. Once your front desk cleared this up, he carried our luggage even though I said I would do it myself. Once again ignoring a customer's request. At the front desk, the receptionist acknowledged our booking but could not identify that the booking was made via Bookings.com partner, nor was she able to verify my payments. She requested payment upfront for the first night, stating that the payment would be reversed, once they received the Booking.com confirmation. The receptionist proceeded to direct me to her colleague, who was busy with another customer, so I patiently waited, he struggled to understand the customer's request in English, and just brushed him off, instead of finding a colleague who could assist. Then it was my turn, I was greeted with "What do you want", having no words for this type of reception, I subsequently made the payment and sat at the reception area. Another issue, they could not print my invoice, as they had a problem with their system, and asked that I pick up the invoice. I requested the invoice be brought to my room and was abruptly told that they could not do it, under any circumstances. How is this my problem when your printer is not functional, secondly how can this be an inconvenience to your staff who are employed to meet customer expectations. Since the same type of room was not available for both nights when I made the booking online, I requested to stay in the cheaper room that I had booked for the duration of my stay, willing to forego the superior room (which cost more) the next night to avoid the check-in and check out of luggage. Their answer was NO, without checking their systems or escalating to a decision maker. She claimed that there were no rooms of the same category available at that time, which was a blatant lie, as I had a Booking.com screenshot indicating a room that became available on Bookings-com while I was standing in their reception. Once again the only reason I did not cancel and rebook on Bookings.com was the booking was not refundable if amended or cancelled. Both on-duty receptionists were rude and unhelpful, I expressed my dissatisfaction with being treated in such a poor manner, and subsequently paid for the accommodation at the resort with the expectation that it would be reversed before I checked out. I made my disgruntlement known to the receptionist. And surprisingly a duty manager (who I did not request) appeared. This begs the question of why the receptionist escalated the matter was it just to save her hide? Because if my questions were out of her scope of responsibility surely she should have escalated my earlier request to management. The duty manager Richard, tried to resolve the issue by upgrading the room to match the booking of the next day and prevent the check-in and check-out process of luggage, but not the paperwork, which is understandable. He invited us to their management/guest meet and greet which was open to all hotel guests, but I appreciated the sentiment But don't be fooled by being given the upgrade for one night. He failed to inform us at the very least that there would be construction work in progress right in front of the room, or that being right next to the boat house with constant noise would create a disturbance. We had to leave our room the next day to get some quiet time, yet we paid to stay at the resort. The room did not have towels, gowns, or complimentary bottled water. I returned to the reception to have my room access card reactivated on the second night and enquired about the payment, I was told that the payment for both nights was settled, and my refund for the credit card would be reversed. On check out the next day, I was asked to settle my drinks tab and that my refund was processed for the double charge. Trusting that this was done and once again no invoice was available but would be emailed to me I left the country. A week later, I called to enquire about my refund. When I asked to speak to the duty manager, I gave her an overview of the double payment and requested a refund, stating that this was yet another example of their poor treatment of guests. She was hostile, rude, unprofessional, and ill-mannered, I had to speak over her to get my full expectations heard, and shockingly she still rudely spoke over me to the point that I had to raise my voice to get heard. How does a representative of Solana Beach Hotel behave in such an unacceptable manner? She requested my email address but did not bother to take it down or check your customer records where the information exists, needless to say, she dropped the call. I received a call shortly thereafter from another employee requesting my email address, when I requested the name of the manager on duty she dropped the call, but surprisingly found my email address and I received an email requesting my banking details. You can surely determine the female duty manager on the day of the 18th of September 2023. Based on such poor behaviour from management it is no wonder that the rest of the employees behave in the same manner. More than two months later, multiple calls and emails to multiple people in your organisation requesting all manner of information from me have resulted in NO REFUND. This looks like a deliberate attempt to frustrate the process and deny me a refund rightfully due me. I am hoping that my refund can be resolved and that Solana management takes the time to review the customer reviews on the various social media platforms this is a good indication of the overall poor service that is experienced by many guests.
