The hotel

As the Mauritian drinks cart rolls up to serve you cooling cocktails, while you sink your feet into the white sands of Belle Mare beach after a dip in its turquoise lagoon, you’ll know you’ve arrived in paradise. In fact, it’s so jaw-droppingly gorgeous here, they’ve now reserved Sunrise Attitude exclusively for grownups. As much as you could spend every waking moment on the beach, there’s plenty more fun in store – whether you want to linger at the seaside with snorkelling and scuba diving on offer, or you prefer swimming in one of the two swimming pools instead. However, it’s the authentic touches that really make this Adults Only retreat unforgettable, from the island-inspired treatments at Spa Poz to once-in-a-lifetime cultural Otentik experiences like dining with islanders in their homes, and learning to make Mauritian curries with their local chef.

I have never posted a review online before for anything, but had to make a profile to express my gratitude for such a great time in this hotel and Mauritius in general. I have stayed in many all inclusive hotels and resorts but this was by far the best experience I have ever had, mainly because of the people and staff. The Mauritians are the friendliest people I have come across, especially in the hotel, and nothing at all is too much trouble. I don't think in the 10 days I was here, I come across a single staff member that wasn't happy and smiling, and happy to help and make sure the holiday was the best possible. The hotel is lovely and there is always plenty to do, from meditation sessions on the beach, to the usual games such as water polo, table tennis, and volleyball tournaments to glass bottom boats and snorkelling trips(all free) to blackjack and poker nights, pool tournaments and rum tasting sessions. The food is excellent. There is always plenty of choice and variation in the buffet. The 2 free restaurants are both lovely and can be booked more than once if not too busy, which we did! Especially enjoyed the Tapas in the Social House. Aside from the buffet, there is an excellent a la Carte restaurant for lunch with the usual great service and a cart offering lovely noodles, and wraps amongst other lovely treats! Because everyone was so nice, I really enjoyed and took part in lots, and got to know most of the entertainment staff, and even participated in Karaoke for the first time in over 10 years, and danced like a lunatic to the amazing Mauritian Sega music, making me feel 20 years younger again :) Special shout out to Matthew who arranged a lot of the entertainment I took in, including both meditation and poker!! The pools are nice, and even in the pouring rain on occasions, made the most and jumped in, and loved swimming in the downpour. The partial sea view from the room is really nice, although you can't see much of the sea through the palm trees, it is lovely to sit out on the balcony and enjoy doing nothing. I could go on much longer but won't ramble any more, except to say that I have always said that I will never go to the same place twice, as there is lots of the world to see, but would love to come back to Mauritius, and would stay here again without a second thought. Thanks Mauritius, and Sunrise Attitude for my favourite country and holiday to date. Read less

Absolutely fabulous time at the Sunrise. I stayed for 4 nights with my mum 9th to 13th May. We had 2 different room types, the garden view room then the swim up room. Absolutely fabulous time at the Sunrise. I stayed for 4 nights with my mum 9th to 13th May. We had 2 different room types, the garden view room then the swim up room. Both rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean and quiet. Out of the two room categories the swim up room was my favourite, as it was so light and bright, with direct access in to a pool that was shared with 4 other rooms, however there was never anyone else in the pool other than ourselves so you did feel like it was your own pool. The balcony area was beautiful and a lovely comfy place to just chill out on too. Air con was good, keeping the room lovely and cool. Plenty of space and storage for belongings. The food is plentiful and varied at 2 buffet restaurants, there is also a la carte dining for lunch available at Papaya bar which is really delicious. There is a lovely restaurant you can book called Kot Nou included on the all inclusive and this was a taste of local Mauritiun cuisine, again delicious food. There was also another restaurant in the evening for a la carte dining which was more tapas style. Again available to book on the all inc. Highly recommend trying all restaurants and buffer restaurants to eat at. There are two bars, one at each pool. Both serving an array of drinks. I loved the phoenix beer and pina coladas, also the rum based cocktails which were really potent if you like your cocktails strong! There appeared to be loads of activities going on if you wanted to take part, the animation team being really friendly and informing you what was available. The beach is across the road. Whilst I've seen some people complaining about the beach being across the road please do not let this put you off, it's a 2 minute walk. There's loads of sunbeds and a little drinks cart provided by the hotel for a selection of cold drinks. Admittedly there's no beach bar or toilets, but that really is no big deal due to the location of the hotel in relation to the beach. Around both pools there's plenty of sunbeds, bean bags you can lie on, day beds, oversized cushions to laze around on and chill out on. This aspect I really like as you could just lie in complete comfort on a day bed or a huge bean bag. The staff and the service are very friendly and efficient in the restaurants. Albeit at the Papaya bar you could wait a while to be noticed to be served at times but i think us British are used to bar staff serving in order of people arriving at the bar. Not sure this concept has quite filtered through, but then again you're on holiday so no big deal if having to wait a few minutes to be served. The friendliness of the staff made up for it and more bar staff at peak periods (evening) would resolve this. My mum has reduced mobility and walks with a stick, she could get virtually everywhere on the complex with the exception of the upstairs Bar 31 which in the winter season is where the entertainment is held. There is no lift. It's not a major gripe, as we were only there for 4 nights, but if we had stayed longer I think she would have been a but frustrated at not being able to go up to Bar 31, however in Summer season this is not an issue as the entertainment is round the Papaya pool. There's also a pool table, darts, board games, a library, a gym, snorkelling, glass bottom boat that you can use. Lots to do on an overcast cloudy day. Finally the hotel itself is clean and well cared for. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The food is good, plentiful and tasty. Albeit I prefer my food really hot which you never really get at buffet style restaurants no matter where you stay at in the world. The drinks are good, as are all the facilities. I'd definitely stay again and for longer, and would recommend. Read less

We have just returned from 10 fantatstic days at this wonderful hotel. The hotel is beautifully set out, its very well maintained and clean. The staff are what make this hotel, they are super friendly and so attentive, they always make time to speak to you. They are very passionate about their island and are happy to share their knowledge with you. Make sure you eat at Kot Nou -this is a great dining experience especially when you are looked after by Kavy, he’s amazing. The hotel has lots of daytime/evening activities for you to do. A must is the glass botom boat - bookable at reception The evening entertainment was great with traditional dancers, bands and djs. The bar staff are brill and always happy to make cocktails, make sure you ask Don -the bar supervisior to make you an expresso martini he’s a whizz at them now. If you want to get out and about, use the local taxi service, you can hire them for the day, their knowledge about the island is fantastic and they know all the best places to visit. A massive thank you to all the staff too many names to mention but a few are Anish, Kavy, Don,Ashna and Kim. Overall an amazing hotel and staff Read less
