The hotel

All-suite and all-inclusive, the Ravenala Attitude is styled in contemporary, colonial and tropical hues. With an open-plan, no boundaries design, the restaurants and bars flow seamlessly towards the pool, gardens and beach beyond. But it’s not all about appearances — it goes deeper. Its ‘Culinary Voyage’ takes you from Asia to Italy in nine restaurants, six of which you can sample as part of your All-Inclusive package. You can tuck into 'Granmamas' Mauritian fare at Kot Nou, street-food takeaways on the beach at Taba-J, and enjoy the romance of the floating Riviera restaurant. The kids' clubs provide various fun activities, whilst the Sport Village and Boat House offer endless diversions, from kayaking along Rivière Citron to riverbank yoga. And the hotel's ‘Otentik’ concept gives you a true insight into Mauritius, in cookery classes, local music, a self-guided tours app, and a weekly ‘Otentik Bazar’, with all profits from the ‘made in Mauritius’ goodies going to the craftspeople. You can even dine on ‘Otentik Dinners’ with locals in their homes. This charming resort is great for families, with large rooms and a range of activities, whilst couples will love staying in the Executive Seafront Adult Suites in the adults-only section.

We had a stunning 10 nights at the Ravenala Attitude Hotel. Firstly, credit to Preetisha at reception, Kevin at the sport village, Rai at the beach bar, and finally Nallan at the O-Beach restaurant. All staff here were excellent however these ones were the most kind and helpful. Kevin organises footy at the sport village for the kids every now and then; sometimes he even goes round the whole hotel asking people to come there! The Ravenala is located right next to the ocean, therefore there is a lovely beach with a bar, a volleyball court and a lot of sun loungers. There is a bunch of things to do at this amazing hotel: there are 3 large pools (2 deep and 1 shallow) that close at around 6pm; kayaking, snorkelling and glassbottom trips in the crystal clear waters where you will be able to spot so many little fishies! The rooms were comfortable and adequate with a balcony and space for 4 people. Cleaners come in daily to the room to ensure your room is neat and tidy when you get back; they normally come around 10-3pm. Only minor problem is the bathroom. There was an pungent stench coming from the toilet and a small leakage from the roof that I think came from the aircon. The Ravenala Attitude has a staggering 9 restaurants (all of them that we went to were great) and I highly recommend Madame Ming (Asian cuisine), Kot Nou (Mauritian cuisine), and a good lunch whenever we were at the beach at Taba-j - the noodles and dumplings were my favourite! There is also The Bistrot, a restaurant that serves a lot of fast food like burgers; the main buffet with a lot of selection named Mozaik, an italian restaurant, and the O Beach restaurant. The Riviera and Lime restaurants don't allow children. Would also recommend booking these early into your trip. Read less

Trying not to repeat comments of others but to add some value for those doing research before booking. It would be harsh to mark the hotel down as a 3* as there are so many positives but the thing that really lets it down is the main (buffet) restaurant which is a core offering used by all guests. Buffet restaurants always struggle to keep food hot but the Ravenala uses very low tech warmers which can never keep food hot. Even getting there when breakfast started the food was cold. When we walked through the restaurant an hour before dinner service the rice had already been put out, creating a health risk as well as cold food. The solution to this is to use the dine-around restaurants which are mainly free to AI guests. You need to book up on arrival to secure your bookings. Riviera and Lime are at supplement but well worth it as a special treat. Be aware that the hotel is also used for external meetings and seminars. During our stay there were 2 separate 3-4 day visits by a huge number of delegates of an African food supplement company. They pretty much overwhelmed the buffet restaurant when they all turned up at once as well as being a very visible and extremely audlble presence across the hotel premises. This is described as an all-suite hotel and there's certainly space to enjoy. Lets itself down a bit with cranky plumbing and lack of wardrobe doors and could do with a makeover. On the plus side, all staff go above and beyond to please guests. Impossible to mention everyone by name but we had great service from Yeshven (pool waiter), Kumari (beach towel lady), Sweety (Mauritian restaurant), Amity (Asian restaurant) and all the staff in Riveria (where we had a very special dinner to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday). As grandparents we also observed the very caring and professional way that Savita and her colleague looked after children throughout the day in the Kids Club. Excellent service in the many bars. Never a problem finding sun beds either in shade or full sun, with several pools to choose from as well as the sandy beach which has gently shelving sand into the clear water. So, would we recommend it? Yes, as along as you're aware of its limitations. Weather was superb on the NW Coast and its a great base from which to explore the island. Certainly nowhere near a 4* far eastern ( eg Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam) hotel but fine for 2 weeks. There is a separate adult only wing but note that contrary to the hotel's words here on TA it is only the executive rooms that face the beach, most of the standard adult wing rooms face inwards to the gardens. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at the Ravenala, undoubtedly the best resort we have visited worldwide. Nowhere else have we felt more welcome. Every interaction with the staff has been exceptional, and the resort itself is fantastic, offering a variety of options for all. We especially appreciated the stunning views from our room and the spotlessly clean beach and pool area. The staff serving in the restaurants and those walking up and down by the pool or beach to bring you drinks always had smiles on their faces and were incredibly friendly. The spa facilities were excellent with a wide range to choose from, offering a very relaxing and peaceful experience. We travelled here to get married and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Special thanks to Loic and Veer for everything they did on our special day. An extra special thank you goes to Preet, who supported us in organising the day and making it as memorable and special as we could ever imagine. Thank you so much; it is something we will never forget. We will definitely return. Read less
