The hotel

Overlooking the beautiful bay of Grand Baie, the Veranda Grand Baie Hotel & Spa is bursting with Creole charm and is ideally located for exploring the nearby restaurants, bars and shops. All rooms have been sumptuously decorated with cool, soothing tones and are dotted amongst the grounds. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink from your private balcony or terrace, admiring stunning views of the surrounding gardens or swimming pool. Water sports are, of course, in ample supply. Windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and pedal boats are complimentary, as is a glass-bottom boat ride so you can admire life below the waves without getting wet! Pay a bit extra and you can join PADI qualified instructors on diving expeditions and water-ski to your heart’s content. Whilst parents are lounging beside one of two pools, the Timomo Kids Club will keep little ones entertained with a whole range of exciting activities. There’s also the delightful Seven Colours Wellness Spa should a spot of pampering, well-deserved no doubt, appeal. Le Mon Plaisir serves a delicious range of local dishes as well as more international favourites. Belle Vue Restaurant, set right beside the ocean, is more suited to special occasions, taking you on a culinary journey you’ll never forget.

We visited 11th - 25th June and this was our first holiday as a family of 3 with our 9-month-old Daughter, Maya. We don't like being restricted to staying in a hotel the whole time so we chose Veranda Grand Baie as it was really well located to be able to walk into the centre on afternoons. It's in a little peaceful bay right next to the public beach (definitely worth a visit, just over the road) and you can walk to the centre along the front or on the roadside at the top. We were greeted with smiles by the reception staff who seated us and offered us a cold flannel and a glass of juice. After hours travelling it was a nice touch. As we were early our room wouldn't be ready for another few hours so we chose to eat lunch in the bar. Just before ordering a member of staff confirmed they could put us in an upgraded room within 20 minutes, bargain! Unfortunately, this room (although superior) was full of ants everywhere, we're on a tropical island, I expected this, but not all over the bed & frame so a quick call to reception and although we had to then be downgraded to our original room, as long as it was clean and ant free we weren't bothered. The rooms are in dire need of an upgrade, it's the one thing for us that does let the hotel down, unfortunately. The cleaners (Yaya and her team) did the best they could (thank you!) but when the rooms are so dated only so much cleaning will make a difference. We did hear that there is a big refurb next year. Despite this, we had everything we needed including plenty of space for a travel cot and a baby bath in the bathroom. There could do with being more closet space as this was pretty limited for 3 people. The little terrace with table and chairs was handy too. We were half board so had breakfast and dinner included. We did get a bit sick of breakfast by the end of our stay as there's no variety but the omelette station was good and fresh. The evening buffet offered plenty of variety and on a few occasions the amazing chef's (Chef Sudhir and I'm so sorry I can't remember the other chef's name, he spoke very good English and was about the same height as Chef Sudhir) cooked us a 3 course meal and always made sure we were happy. Other aspects of the hotel we loved include the free 10 minute foot massage (can be used within the first 2 days), free glass bottom boat ride and the various activities that are put on including yoga & cooking class. The gym facilities were also good.. The evening entertainment was enjoyable and always finished by the stated time. The spa is out of this world and I would highly recommend the Mauritian massage. Overall for us it's the staff that absolutely make this hotel. All of whom are nothing short of incredibly hospitable, hard working and friendly. We can not thank them enough for giving us lasting memories and for being so accommodating towards our little girl, Maya. She was adored by all and would always be greeted with a big smile or whisked up for a cuddle at any opportunity. In particular we would like to offer huge thanks to Pawan & Ritesh for looking after us and making sure we always had a drink to hand. Kajal who sorted us out with a hire car & Dorrell who came to see Maya most mornings. Patricia, Valentine (who made Maya belly laugh and giggle) & Jonathan the Entertainment team, you do a great job. In the restaurant, Cindy who especially brought out Maya's dinner every evening at 5pm (as the buffet does not open until 7pm) one evening she even took it upon herself to bring it to our room as it was raining. Cindy did tell me the name of the lady that made this each night but we have forgotten, sorry, extra thanks to her too. Rishi, Ansunya & Neel were also always on hand with a high chair, suitable table and lots of smiles. Jeff at the boat house sorted us out with a private speed boat trip to see / swim with sea turtles, this was an amazing experience, thanks Jeff. Thank you Veranda Grand Baie and your super staff for a wonderful stay, I'm sure we will see you all again. Read less

The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The people in the reception and at the boat house has helped us a lot with arranging excursions around the island and boat trips. We loved our stay at Veranda. A big plus is the short walking distance to the center of Grand Baie. We also visited the hotel spa. We were very pleased with the spa service. Very professional and lovely people working at the spa and at the hotel as a whole. Highly reccomend this hotel. Read less
