The hotel

Overlooking the beautiful bay of Grand Baie, the Veranda Grand Baie Hotel & Spa is bursting with Creole charm and is ideally located for exploring the nearby restaurants, bars and shops. All rooms have been sumptuously decorated with cool, soothing tones and are dotted amongst the grounds. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink from your private balcony or terrace, admiring stunning views of the surrounding gardens or swimming pool. Water sports are, of course, in ample supply. Windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and pedal boats are complimentary, as is a glass-bottom boat ride so you can admire life below the waves without getting wet! Pay a bit extra and you can join PADI qualified instructors on diving expeditions and water-ski to your heart’s content. Whilst parents are lounging beside one of two pools, the Timomo Kids Club will keep little ones entertained with a whole range of exciting activities. There’s also the delightful Seven Colours Wellness Spa should a spot of pampering, well-deserved no doubt, appeal. Le Mon Plaisir serves a delicious range of local dishes as well as more international favourites. Belle Vue Restaurant, set right beside the ocean, is more suited to special occasions, taking you on a culinary journey you’ll never forget.

Having booked our holiday at Verandah grand Baie resort we then read some terrible reviews and were wondering how bad it would be... Its actually very, very nice. The staff have been extremely welcoming and couldn't be more helpful. Comfort room is a tad small but fine, and yes it could do with a but of updating but that's nothing that would put us off coming again. The dreadful old French disco music might tho 😁. It's really well located and a lovely short walk on the beach to shops, beach bars/restaurants. Walk along beach to board walk, only 5/6 mins away and enjoy sunset drinks, you don't have that in the resort. It is a very safe place to walk around, even the dark bits of the beach walk felt fine. Glad we came and weren't put off by some reviews. We are on B&B basis and are enjoying sampling different dishes in local restaurants. Only downside is the exchange rate, makes it expensive for us Brits!!! But that's because we expect it to be cheaper but food&drinks same prices as at home😕😕😕 Free water sports in terms of pedalos, kayaks, glass bottom boat but you can pay for speedboat and catamaran trips, fishing. Weather has been amazing for off season. Read less

I choose the hotel mainly because of the location as I didn’t have a car. Grand Baie town is just a walk away and absolutely stunning beach, La Cuvette, is just around the corner. The hotel offers airport transfer, which was very nicely organized by the staff. The hotel itself is lovely, but little too outdated to my taste. I stayed in one of the standard rooms with a terrasse. The room was good size and had tea and coffee making utensils. Minibar had some water, beer and coke. My room was cleaned daily fairly well. The towels were changed every day, but I think that the bath towels could be better, they were old and the fabric was washed thin. No softness whatsoever. Beach towels were in better condidition in the matter of softness, but I happened to have two sets with brown stains on the towel. The mattress on the bed should be changed, it’s lumpy and definetly past its best before date. The sheets were nice and clean, but the blankets have seen better days. The outside area is very nice, plenty of sunbeds by the pool and also on the hotel beach. I would still recommend to take a little walk to the La Cuvette public beach. Food is average, no suprises there. Regular hotel breakfast. Buffee dinner has daily theme, like sushi or pasta night. Nothing exceptional, but nothing really bad also. Just average. I also visited the SPA during my stay and it was probably the best thing. Very professional and lovely staff, enjoyable massage. Overall I was satisfied with my stay, but I don’t think I’ll be returining. Read less

This is a very basic hotel, so don't expect anything more! The room is a good size, but there are no frills. The mattress is of very basic quality and you get 2 lumpy pillows per king size bed. No quilt or throw - just 2 bare sheets on the bed! Tea/coffee station in room is a poor effort on the hotels part (with tea bags, coffee, sugar and creamer sachets lying loose on a tray in the cupboard see photograph attached). The rooms are cleaned daily - although fairly half heartedly. And the balcony was only cleaned a few times in two weeks - with the same bat/bird droppings on the railing not cleaned at all. You can see that the staff do their best (sometimes), but could do with better training. On many occasions; guests in a room close by had room service and their dirty cutlery/crockery/wine glasses would sit outside on the staircase from lunch time through till the following morning without any staff collecting these items! This is me is indicative of the way the hotel is run. The food quality and dining area was the worst experience for me. I struggle to understand how the management can think it is acceptable. They could offer a far better product and experience without much more expense on their behalf. You do have access to other restaurants and supermarkets (in Grand baie) so you can luckily find alternative options of food, but it is a fairly bitter pill to swallow when you have actually paid the hotel for a half board basis. Their so called 'Sports centre' for want of a better word is a very poor excuse; and the staff are disinterested and unprofessional. If you are interested in any of these activities listed, this is certainly not the hotel to choose. The "pros" for this hotel: The location. It is within walking distance of grand baie town, and there is a very nice beach 5 minutes walk from the hotel (to the right of the hotel when you are looking at the bay) called La Cuvette. A tip: Buy take out dinner and some wine and have an early dinner sitting on this beach watching the sunset. I cannot honestly recommend this hotel. It would be beneficial if the owners, managers and staff of the hotel to realize that their guests have anticipated a nice beach holiday and make more effort to give them 'perceived value' in return. Asha and her Staff welcomed us, from the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. The Staff was absolutely amazing, friendly and helpful and ensured that we were always taken care of. Thank you Virginia for walking the extra mile in sourcing a handbag I wasn't able to find. The food was great and the chefs were very accommodating to any requests. It was a relaxing and truly a dream holiday. Thank you Asha for making our stay so special, we will be back soon ! Andre & Estelle Read less

We have just spent 10 days at the Veranda GB. Staff could not be more helpful and the facilities are all there. Our room was clean and of a good size and was accessed via the well kept gardens. Food was plentiful and varied and the chef was keen to please. Being able to walk along the beach to Grand Baie is a major plus. We went half board so had to pay for drinks, which are pricey. Tea and coffee in the room had to be paid for which felt a bit mean and mini bar prices were high, a small mars bar being £3.50 ! Our departure flight was late and an extension on the room after the 12 noon departures was £50. We had a day or 2 of rain, so walking from our room to the dining area meant we got a soaking there and back, an umbrella in the room would have been useful. We did enjoy our stay and did not let the negatives spoil it for us but they were niggles none the less. Conclusion..a beautiful place to stay and probably better done on an all inclusive basis if you fancy more than a couple of drinks in an evening Read less
