Zilwa Attitude

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are seven restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

We had a 2 day 1 night stay at Zilwa and the staff was awesome to us. Beautiful hotel with 5 swimming pools but should cater for entrance of disabled person in future. Mervin was of great help and ensure we were always entertained. Continue the good work! A viva Mauritian concept!

The views from this hotel are amazing!! The picture of the island in the background that you see online is the exact view you get when you arrive! The staff overall were very friendly but not always very attentive in the main restaurant at breakfast and dinner. It sometimes took a long time to get drinks. The staff in the evening made you feel like you a bit of an inconvenience if you went for dinner around 9pm onwards even though it is on until 10pm. Otherwise the rest of the staff were wonderful. In particular, the barman in the evening called Avish-he was so attentive and always lined up a surprise cocktail for us just as we were approaching the end of our previous drink. He went above and beyond to make our evenings enjoyable here and definitely deserves the recognition for it!! The hotel was very clean and modern with a nice wooden shabby chic look about it. The showers are open plan in the room with blinds shielding you from the windows and the bedroom part of the room (just incase you go with a friend thought that might be useful to know!) but the toilets are separate. The layout worked really well as a couple though. The beach area was nice but it wasn't very flat so if you were trying to move your bed into the areas of sunshine, the bed was majorly unlevel. but you can move your bed further onto the beach into the sun if you wish. It was beautiful under the palm trees and thatched parasols. The hotel offers BBQ lunches at a tiny island right next to the hotel (Gran Zil) which was lovely and recommended (included in the hotels costs). They can also organise a sunrise boat trip with a local fisherman for 1200 MR (about £26) which was amazing and well worth it! There are 4 extra restaurants on site, which I would recommend booking at the start of your trip as they book a few days ahead. We ate at the Chinese and the beach one and both were superb but the daily evening restaurant as part of the all inclusive was mediocre. They had some choice which was good but if the main included beef or lamb it was often chewy or gristly. The chicken was generally good though. Breakfast was good on the whole. The lady who did the omelettes was lovely a friendly and always had a smile for you which goes a long way. Overall we had a lovely stay here for our honeymoon and would recommend it but they need to work on there evening food in the main restaurant and their restaurant staff's attentiveness. Read less
