Zilwa Attitude

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are seven restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

We visited Zilwa for our wedding, and I write this on our last day at the hotel. WEDDING- We planned to book our wedding at Zilwa for ourselves and 6 family members. I must share special and particular praise for Nasreen and Karishma who went absolutely above and beyond to ensure our magical day was perfect! Every single detail was looked after and I would most certainly recommend the “Islander” wedding package. The scenes from Gran Zil were breathtaking. The hotel also organise a Wedding Breakfast for you which was a really nice touch. We did opt to use our own photographer- ULRIC FRANCOIS who came highly recommended and I could not speak highly enough of. He can be found on Instagram and has shot many weddings at Zilwa. DRINKS- I must say, we weren’t blown away with the quality of drinks. Whilst plenty of choice there is, the measures and quality of spirits in cocktails is somewhat lacking. However, you can still enjoy a classic or traditional Mauritian cocktail. AMENITIES- Plenty of sunbeds available either at the pool or the beach. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely immaculate and pristine. You can tell a lot of work goes in to making sure these are kept extremely well clean and tidy. There is also tennis courts and volleyball to keep you entertained. FOOD- we have eaten at all the restaurants at the hotel and our particular favourites are Lor Disab and Tadka (Indian food). I have travelled all over the world and I must say this is one of the better breakfasts we have enjoyed. My only issue is that you have to book the restaurants day by day. Once again, Nasreen and Karishma took care of all of our reservations for food, and were excellent. We never had an issue in booking. Lunchtime food is average, I would recommend the Roti’s at the beach area. STAFF- the staff are absolutely excellent, hardworking and extremely attentive. You are never day around with an empty glass and I particularly like the fact the staff do not pressure or try to get tips from the guests. They are all so friendly and an integral part to the running of the hotel. OVERALL- I would most certainly recommend staying at Zilwa. Read less

The hotel, its location, and its facilities are fantastic, but it’s the people who make the place shine. From we arrived until we left our stay was made extraordinary by Rani and Ravi who helped us with tables and extra banana jam, Kevin and Johnson who entertained us on the catamaran and kept the rum and coke flowing, and Neena in the hotel’s spa who helped us relax after exploring the island. If you’re struggling to pick a place to stay in Mauritius, pick Zilwa Attitude and say hi and thanks to everyone working there from us. Read less

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. Completely exceeded expectations. From arrival at the hotel and all throughout our stay the staff have been very helpful and always friendly. The food here is fresh and tasty. The BBQ on the little island is so delicious and like a mini holiday within a holiday. The beach restaurant, Chinese and Indian restaurants were all great quality food and plenty of it. We had a table on the beach twice during our stay and that made it even more special. The buffet restaurants also offered a great range of different food as well. Ashley in the restaurants, Niraj in the beach bar, Sheila the omelette lady all deserve a mention for being amazing. Everything has been thought of with regards to keeping people safe from COVID. Little details like staff service food in the buffet rather than everyone touching the spoons etc. A little shop where you can top up your mini bar. And limiting numbers on any excursions to allow extra space. The rooms are spacious and comfy (we had room 3315). Great view onto the beach and at the quieter end of the hotel. Also right next to the dive centre which was great for us. Lots of water sport equipment included within the all inclusive price. Stand up paddle boards, kayaks, windsurf, pedalos to name a few. We booked the catamaran trip through the hotel for our penultimate day and it was great. Kevin and Johnson were great hosts. Definitely book this through the hotel, they limit it to 10 people per trip on a boat designed for 25 so you get a lot of space to spread out. The food on the boat is great as well. It’s also much cheaper than booking with one of the beach sellers or Emirates who drive you an hour down the coast to do the same trip. The hotel catamaran leaves from the hotel beach and brings you back there so no sitting in a minibus! We booked a trip to swim with dolphins in Tamarin and explore the south of the island. We booked the trip with a guy called Big John, you will definitely meet him on the beach. The trip was amazing, saw around 100 dolphins swimming wild in the sea, and saw lots of lovely sights in the south of the island. The trip was pretty expensive though and later in the week we found that you could book something very similar for a lot less money. There’s a shop just opposite the entrance to the hotel that sells sun cream, snacks and souvenirs which was really handy. The only minor negative was that there was no air con in the gym so it was roasting in there. Bring shoes to wear in the sea, the seabed has really sharp stones and rocks. The boat house do provide shoes if you don’t have your own though. Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return one day. Read less
