The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are six restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

We went on an in-land trip around mauritus with Big John. He provides very good prices for all activities and gave us the chance to see parts of the island we never would have seen otherwise. Once we arrived at the beautiful hotel, despite the weather not being great at the beginning, we had an amazing time and the welcoming from the staff members was outstanding. A big thank you to the staff members who made our stay special especially to Mr Sachi who works at the restaurant and welcomed us with his big smile everyday & always ready to help. A special shout out to Kush and Kishan at the bar who went out of their way to make sure we were being looked after and comfortable. Jess the hairdresser was very professional and did a great job with my hair and lastly I had a wonderful massage at the spa with Sharmila, I definitely recommend the spa and massage. The food was delicious especially the Thai and Indian restaurant. The room was spacious overlooking the ocean. Overall we had a great stay and definitely recommend this hotel. God willing We will be coming back :) Read less

Paul the waiter was lovely, other than that all were lazy and untrained! The hotel should be closed and revamped and all staff should receive training. Cleaners moving furniture in apts above and below from as early as 6 am. Restaurants on site were basic, no atmosphere and that’s if you could get a reservation. Awful experience, doubt we will ever return to the country again, Read less

We travelled here from the UK for 2 weeks over Easter. We are a family of 6, with 4 children aged 13, 11, 9 and 7. Out of all the resorts in Mauritius we found Zilwa attitude to be the only one offering a room to accommodate our large family together (family apartment). The resort is amazing for a family to visit and I would recommend it to anyone. It is about an 1 hour 20 minute drive from the airport, and we arrived late morning after a long flight via Dubai with Emirates (who were fantastic). On arrival you walk into the lobby and are met with the most amazing view over the Indian Ocean. Immediately all that travelling to get there is worth it. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink, and very quickly checked in, although the room would not be available until 2pm (which we already knew), we are given towel cards and full use of the resort. The lobby area is fully open with 180 degree views, along with the main bar and buffet restaurant. Rooms: The family apartment was 2 rooms connected via a shared entrance hall. They were larger than we expected, one room with a large queen/king size bed, and the other with 2 twin beds. Both rooms had sofa beds. I am quite a fussy sleeper and find it difficult to take to many mattresses, but the one we had in this room was perfect for me. The sofa beds were also very good and seemed to be made of memory foam. Rooms have a large walk in shower and plenty of storage for our family of 6 (with 5 suitcases). Air conditioning worked well in our room, however not so good in the other room, but fans gave a welcome gentle breeze throughout the night. TV, kettle, fridge, hair dryer all in the room. The rooms are based in crescent shaped blocks facing out towards the ocean. Whilst some have full sea views, we only had a glimpse of the sea, but the gardens are all provided a great view. I don't think you could get a room with a "bad" view here. Rooms seemed very well soundproofed and we very never woken by anyone above or below us. Food: For an all inclusive resort the food here is of a very high standard. I am quite surprised from other reviews saying anything different. We never had a "cold" meal. In the buffet they are constantly coming out with fresh hot food. There is great mix of Indian Currys, Mauritian Food, Italian pasta and fresh pizza, seafood, french/english dishes. We never had a poor meal from the buffet. There were a few times when there was dishes from the menu missing ( I was looking forward to fish tartar), however after asking the chef, he quickly went back to the kitchen and made this dish for me, before personally bringing it to my table. Breakfast was also great. We ate at the BBQ beach buffet for lunch everyday bar one. It is not massive, but there is enough. The fresh pizzas lovely. We also took the al a carte lunch for one day and this was also very good, especially if you are after that english/americian food hit (fries, burgers etc). There is a snack bar in the middle of the resort. This did crepes and indian snacks (samosas etc). Whilst the food was good, it was very disorganised. You were felt sometimes like you should not be ordering, which was a slight shame. The juice bar next door, whilst not included in the all inclusive package, they are around £4. He does great fresh coconut water too. We ate out at the new Thai restaurant for one night, and this was the only disappointment. The staff were very disorganised and food not that great. We were the first table in there, but our food came out very late, and we were having out mains whilst others were having desert. I know it has only just opened so maybe some teething issues. This put us off visiting any of the other al a carte restaurants. But to be honest, we were more than happy with the evening buffet, and the less formal dining (especially with our children). After the evening meal we would relax at the top bar with great drinks and watch/listen to the evening entertainment. The drinks are very similar to any all inclusive, but the service that came with them was always fantastic. We spent all our days at the lower pool, positioned by the beach and bar. Whilst they did come over and take your order, it was always nice to wonder over and order from there, then sit down at the bar area looking over the ocean. The staff here were great and if you didn't know what to drink that had many recommendations and creations for you. Coffee was also very good, freshly made and nice strong expresso. Our kids loved that they could order unlimited "mocktails". I'd recommend the "dark and spicy", lovely homemade spiced rum refreshing drink. As a family of 6 we can sometimes find it hard to get 6 sunbeds together. We never had an issue here and always managed to get the same beds, We'd go out between 9 and 10. You will never struggle to find a sunbed here, even in the afternoon. The watersports were all included, and we did most of them. The staff are very friendly and it is all very safe. If you got into any difficulty they would be out in their boat to check and help you. The ocean if very shallow and no more than waist deep in most parts. It is not clear but not dirty either. Definitely wear beach shoes in the sea, there are places with sharp coral. Because it is a natural lagoon it does have parts of the sea floor which are quite sludgy, we knew about this before we booked the resort so it didn't surprise or disappoint us. If you are expecting crystal clear water with corals and sealife to snorkel you will not find it at this hotel. There are however many trips available where you can do all this and go to clearer water. The weather in late March early April was perfect for us. A constant high 20 degrees. There is almost always a breeze which is very welcome. The last few days of our trip had quite a bit of rain and cloud, but the temperature was still the same so we were still out on the sunbeds or in the pool. My wife and I visited the spa. Again this was fantastic and probably one of the best treatments I have had. A 90 minute body scrub and massage was very reasonable, around £60 GBP. They also gave us a 20% discount. Very tranquil and peaceful setting. The kids club was great for us. Our youngest (7 yo) went most days. The staff are a credit to the resort. They do so many great activities, boat trips, fishing, henna tattoos. This is all included in the cost. We also played tennis, and tried the archery. There was plenty on, beach football, volleyball, table tennis. We like to relax on holiday, but if you are more active then you will have lots of things to keep you busy. The gym is quite small but never over crowded. Overall I find it very hard how anyone could leave a poor review for Zilwa. If it wasn't for the long travel from the UK I would be booking it every year! We normally get a bit board towards the end of a 2 week holiday, but my wife and I both said we could easily stay for longer here. It is so relaxing and laid back, coupled with the weather and food/drinks what more could you want. Well done, and thank you Zilwa Attitude for an unforgettable holiday and memories made for our family. Read less
