We have only ever stayed at this hotel (in an Arabian Deluxe room) when visiting Dubai over the last 29 years. We always looked forward to getting into their sumptuous beds that used to be the most comfortable we have ever experienced. Not any more! We arrived after midnight, unpacked, showered and hopped into bed for what we expected to be a very good nights sleep. Unfortunately, they have changed the mattresses and done away with the lovely toppers. The new mattresses are far less comfortable and every time one of us turned over, moved or went to the bathroom we woke each other up. The following day, the Housekeeping Manager (M) offered to turn the mattress over to its firmer side as our king size bed could not be split into twins. We agreed to try this on our second night, but unfortunately this was rock hard, very uncomfortable (even with the feather mattress topper that was offered) and still did not stop each of us waking one and other when moving in bed. On our third day, they offered to put a single bed in our room so we could avoid disturbing each other. Again we agreed to try this as long as it was not a folding / put-me-up bed. We were assured it was not. Needless to say, after a day out we arrived back to our room to find a low put-me-up bed had been made up in the room (See photos). We contacted the housekeeping manager and advised him this was completely unacceptable particularly given the lack of sleep we had both experienced, the extreme inconvenience to our short stay so far, and when bearing in mind what we had paid for, and previously experienced in this grade of room. We found a twin room available in the St Regis Dubai (The Palm) and advised the manager, Hayes (duty PM manager), that we intended moving hotel within the next 1/2 hr (and requesting a refund) if they could not address the problem. The only thing he could offer that day was, in effect a downgrade to our upgraded room, but that had twin bed availability. Nevertheless, we said we’d accept this if it was available immediately, as we’d hoped to try and catch up with our lack of sleep before going out that evening. We packed our bags and went to reception to determine if we would be staying in our downgraded room or moving to the alternative hotel. Hayes, PM manager, met us in the lobby lounge and explained that the room he had offered would not be ready for 1/2 hr. We reluctantly accepted this. Interestingly he advised us that this was not the first time he had received complaints/similar comments about their beds 🤔and that all he could do was feed this back to the relevant department heads. Apart from this he was completely devoid of any sympathy or sincere apology, or aspiring to assuage us following b3 disturbed / poor nights sleep. In our view completely unsuited to his post. When handing us the key cards for our “new” room, he simply said “Enjoy”….Really!!!🫣 We also explained that over the years, inevitable and welcomed eco-friendly interventions such as thinner towels, more economical shower heads etc aside, perhaps trying to recoup Covid losses, the Jumeirah brand seemed to us to be noticeably downgrading it’s services and facilities, and in doing so losing it’s brand’s edge. Some examples: 1. Arabian Deluxe ensuite’s that had previously enjoyed a gorgeous overhead rainfall shower AND separate hand-held shower head, now has no hand-held shower and the overhead fixed shower heads they do have are frugal in the extreme, shoot water in all angles. 2. Cheap lightweight plastic toilet seats now the norm. 3. The A/C in our room, whilst appearing to be adjustable, was set at 24C and no matter how low we reset the required temperature, this never fell below 22C. 4. The WC no longer has a douche shower. 5. Tiny little dressing tables. 6. The central pool display in the lobby that always had a fantastic display of fresh flowers has now been shoddily boarded over and sprayed with gold coloured paint with cheap metal framing on top, that now holds a small number of tall foliage/flower bowls on top. 7. The incense that used to be burned in the lobby we understand has been substituted with a fragrance that is distributed via the hotel A/C. 8. Ladies WC off the main lobby now does not have rose water to freshen your hands. 9. No strawberry’s or other berry fruit anymore on the fruit section at breakfast. 10. Uncomfortable chairs surrounding the central island bar in Bahri Bar. 11. Bahri bar now a smokers den that wreaks of smoke/nicotine. 12. Almost transparent toilet paper. All this, together with experiences we have had to endure in Jumeirah Port Söller where they are happy to accept late block corporate bookings to the detriment of full paying customers who have entire restaurants or bars closed to accommodate their corporate customers, who often flout smoking rules and are loud and entitled, not to mention the meleé they cause at breakfast. The high points that we experienced. 1. All staff except the PM manager. 2. Breakfast, although anyone visiting this hotel will already know that you need sharp elbows and a tolerance of masses of unsupervised or entitled children, and huge plates of food piled as high as Mt Ararat, being wasted by adults and children alike, and which we find offensive in the extreme. The greed of some customers who feel it is acceptable to leave breakfast having stuffed their bags, pockets, disposable coffee cups or other containers full of juice, sliced fruit and pastries is shocking an the hotel need to address this (not condone it by providing containers) if nothing else to stop guests without such antisocial tendencies from feeling they are subsidising the lunches of these other less considerate guests. 3. Laundry services superb and ultra fast. 4. Attitude and professionalism of VL (Manager at Mina a Salam), and her natural manner in wishing to glean customers real feedback. 5. Great food at both The Hide and Zheng He restaurants, although we would appreciate sittings after 8:30-8:45 being stipulated as child free (say below 12yr) which would avoid guests enjoyment being marred by children running around, crying or sitting looking blankly at tablets. 6. Staff at Trattoria Toscana, however the place itself is devoid of any features that would suggest it is an Italian themed restaurant and is quite dark and dismal inside. For fairly obvious reasons, and regrettably, we will probably not be staying at Jumeirah brand hotels in the future as their standards are clearly dropping out of line with their pricing structures. Amazing hotel. Wonderful service and staff. Club level amazing quality extras from breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks/ hor d’oeuvres. Only problem is kids allowed in club lounge and pool and this would be better if adult only in my opinion.

We were repeat guests at the Mina Al Salam, but our recent experience means we will not be returning to this hotel, but we will return to other Jumeriah Hotels. Upon check in we were asked if we wanted a high floor which we did request, and we were told that the room wouldn't be available until 13:30 which was fine. Upon being given our room it was on the second floor and the view was awful it was like looking through a letter box not the Deluxe Sea View that we were expecting from previous stays plus the room smelt of cigarette smoke. We were offered another room on the 5th floor, but this wouldn't be available for another 2 hours and having been awake for circa 30 hours we declined the offer. What concerned us the most was that at check in we were told that there were two conventions of 300 people staying in the hotel during our stay and any room changes would be limited, I hadn't expected to play second fiddle to convention guests. This theme continued throughout our stay the convention guests seemed to get better treatment culminating in finding out that the pool at the Cala Vista was not exclusively for "Club & Suite" guests in fact it was open to the whole resort not as advertised on their web page so there is no point in paying for Club rooms as these aren't worth the extra cost . So, a hotel with circa 300 rooms and say 500 guests has a pool that would accommodate 70 people at best if all crammed in together. We had to spend our holiday walking to & from the Al Naseem pools & the beach in 38 degrees, this is not what we expected or paid for. All in all, in my opinion the Mina is a hotel for business guests and not holidaying guests. The Mina should be honest with holidaying guests and before they arrive advise them that the hotel will be taken over by convention guests during the stay so that they can make informed choices whether to stay or not as I’m sure these conventions are booked many months if not years in advance. Lastly please no platitudes from the Mina management as I had enough of these during our stay. Read less

The pool area seems small for this size of hotel although we were always early enough to get our pick of beds, you could also use the facilities at other Jumeriah hotels. Enjoy the Club Level Lounge, different to other lounges in a few ways - relatively small and food was served to you on a small platter in line with the day’s themes, with a limited amount of other snacks such as olives and cheese. We had enough food for us at each visit but if I were with family I think my kids would have been disappointed (I did notice French fries were prepared for one child). Read less

Particularly love the fine touches in the rooms. Thank you. The best thing about Dubai is that you feel secure at all times and all your belongings are safe. I left my sunglasses at the beach in a towel they were handed in and given them to me the following day. The greatest effort is made by all staff and it’s a team effort. They all should be proud to provide a comprehensive approach. Read less
