The hotel

If ever a hotel was deliciously OTT, this is it. Its 39 acres host enough pools to swim in a different one every day of the week (and still have one spare); 2 championship golf courses; and dining experiences including a Sunday Brunch that will satisfy your hunger for a week, and High Teas with dainty cakes and finger sandwiches. The setting’s pretty lavish too – near Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Biltmore Fashion Park Mall. A Frank Lloyd Wright design masterpiece, with a 1930s pool rumoured to have been Marilyn Monroe’s favourite, Arizona Biltmore’s past is so fascinating they even host history tours. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past: modern musts here include complimentary WiFi, a fitness centre, a 92-foot waterslide, and five dining venues serving contemporary takes of classic dishes.

Beautiful hotel, meticulously maintained but with some genuine flaws for business travelers. First the perfume in the lobby is incredibly strong and makes using it uncomfortable. Second is the lack of breakfast restaurant in early AM during weekdays. Restaurant opens at 7 but given the time zone and conference center it should really open at 6 or possibly 5:30. So many hungry folks lined up at 7 waiting for food. Third temperatures inside were significantly too cold in conference center. Other positives - an amazing gym and spa. Finally it has a cricket problem in the cottages. Of the 4 nights I was there I had crickets actively chirping in my room for 3 of them. I personally killed 8 in my room. So if you are not ok with crickets, avoid the cottages. This may only be for part of the year, but right now they are bad. Read less

First and foremost this is a beautiful hotel and the staff was wonderful. The room was dirty on when we checked in. I didn’t get photos of everything but one bed had dirty sheets, two light bulbs were out, the table wasn’t wiped down(I had Clorox wipes so no big deal), and I did take a photo of the bathtub having orange residue on ledge. If you use a walker or wheelchair this hotel room is not accessible. The counter height is too high for someone in a wheelchair, no support bars in tub or shower, and the toilet is not accessible at all if you are wheelchair bound. The doors are a really crazy configuration and I kept banging my are on the door handles due to the tight configuration. If you need an accessible hotel or resort, stay away. Just because they have a handicapped button doesn’t make it a handicapped room! I am lucky that I can walk without my walker if needed but I have wheelchair bound friends and they would not have been happy. They only have two restaurants and they were very expensive and only had prices spicy food that I couldn’t eat. McArther’s was nice and the staff were very helpful in trying to find me food to eat but there were limitations. I ordered from kids menu. Got tired of grilled cheese or hamburgers. Although their hamburger from adult menu was delicious! The concierge was very nervous very and helpful in telling me about the things to do locally but you really need a car because most things are pretty far from resort. The hotel is in the middle of desert so expect Palmer bugs, crickets and the like in the hotel. They even have a note to keep windows and doors shut but out door had a one inch gap so… The pools were nice and did have lifts for the pools and hot tubs. There were plenty of ramps and flat sidewalks for wheelchairs but some were very steep for someone using a chair that the push themselves. I struggled walking up them with my walker. I didn’t think the hotel was worth the cost and stress if you are disabled. Read less

If you are a wheelchair user do not book this hotel. As you can see I use a walker and was unable to use my walker to get into the bathroom due to three doors all opening into the bathroom. If you are a wheelchair user do not book this hotel. As you can see I use a walker and was unable to use my walker to get into the bathroom due to three doors all opening into the bathroom. The angle is impossible to turn a chair into the tiny bathroom stall and even if the angle was good, a wheelchair will not fit anyways! You cannot roll a shower chair into the shower because the lip is too tall! The hotel is beautiful and staff were wonderful and tried their best to accommodate my needs but there are not too many food choices for someone with dietary needs and I ended up eating a lot of bread and water and greasy burgers because I cannot eat spicy food. Being a resort I would expect more food choices. The sundry shop and ice cream shop had no fruit options and I had no healthy choices. There were also a lot of dead palmetto bugs in hallway and elevators. I didn’t think to take photos but it was gross. The room was not cleaned very well when we got here and the table in the room was dirty and one of the beds sheets was dirty so we slept on the other bed. Also our room had two lightbulbs out. For a resort and the cost, I expected more. Read less

Stayed here 2 nights with kids, and had a great time. We had a nice room with a view of the mountains at the far end of the resort. The room was quite large, but not quite as fresh as the rest of the resort itself. The grounds are the highlight of this fantastic property. The Frank Lloyd Wright sprites were a fun feature (make sure to grab a map if with small kids and mark these off - our kids received quite a nice little present for doing this). The pools were excellent with a wide mix of secluded locations, adullt only party pool and kid friendly pools with some excellent slides. The bars did get quite busy with locals in the evening, so if this isn't your thing, ask for a room in one of the buildings further back on the property - you won't hear a thing from some of these more secluded locations. Breakfast was average, but there aren't a lot of great options around - but I find Phoenix overall a bit too suburban for my taste. We did have some good thin crust pizza not too far from the hotel, and enjoyed a small hike in Papago park to see the sunset at hole in the rock. We are Diamond members, but didn't receive access to the executive lounge. I anticipate that this was simply an error at the front desk, and we didn't bother to follow up, even after being denied entry. Overall, good stay, and would stay here again if am in Phoenix. Image of the Tripadvisor rating 3 STARS IS ALL WE CAN MUSTER...

Im giving a 3 star rating because some aspects of the stay were great, and some not so great. We did a 4 night stay over labor day weekend, and it was super busy. Im giving a 3 star rating because some aspects of the stay were great, and some not so great. We did a 4 night stay over labor day weekend, and it was super busy. Upon arriving the self park is $22 a day, while the valet was $30. For the extra $8 a day, I recommend the valet, as your car is ready in minutes when you're ready to go out, and the car park is quite a distance from the resort entrance. One of the valets was rude, but the rest were very friendly. First off our room was not ready when we arrived, so we had to recollect our luggage, and go back out to eat. Upon returning the room was still not ready, and were given the lame excuse that they were "putting the final touches on the room" and "they were inspecting the room", really just apologize and offer some sort of compensation or an upgraded room that is ready rather than excuses and BS. All in all, we didn't get to the room until 45 mins AFTER the 4pm check in time. They spray some kind of fragrance in the lobby, which is ok passing through, but if you've got to sit there any amount of time, and you have any fragrance sensitivities, its going to be an issue. When we got to the room we discovered the thermostat is locked out at 20°C and we normally sleep at 15.5°C. It didn't matter though because the AC unit wasn't even up to making the room cooler than 22°C at best, so 4 nights of hot, restless, no covers sleep, was probably the most disappointing part of the stay. The beds were not fantastic but OK, the pillows are awful, and feel like laying your head on a balloon, then you sink into them when the air is pushed out, and the two now ballooned sides wrap around your head. Very uncomfortable to try to sleep with. The resort grounds themselves are quite beautiful and well kept. Housekeeping is good and on par, room was made up everyday and clean. We frequented the pool often and chose the adult only pool to avoid children. Loud, obnoxious drunks hanging around the pool was a bit of a turn off at times and it's a very nice pool but was unfortunately quite dirty. Hottub was also quite nice and the gym is excellent for a hotel gym. Nothing was offered by the counter staff to make up for the room being ready late, so we asked to have the resort fees waived and they agreed to provide us with a credit. When we checked out there was no record of the fees being waved, so they tried to do us dirty us on that, shame on you Biltmore. All in all, definitely a very mixed stay, 3 stars is all we can muster. Would we stay again? I can't honestly say, possibly if the shortcomings were addressed. Read less
