First for the positive: 1. Great location, close to downtown crossing and Boston commons. 2. Clean rooms, clean hallways, overall clean. 3. Bed is comfortable. 4. Staff is very nice and helpful. Problems: 1. No parking obviously- have to park at nearby garage at extra cost. 2. Out room had no drawer space at all. Looked like it had a set of drawers at some point that was removed. We had a sizable room with small closet and one night stand with drawers. 3. Views - our room was facing a brick wall 3 ft away 4. Attention to detail- alarm on our night stand went off at 5am, set by a previous occupant. They should’ve cut it of while cleaning. Next morning- the alarm next door went off at 6am and it was Sunday! It kept going and going until we called front desk to send someone up to cut it off. Obviously previous guest set it and moved out and no one checked. Of course we were not able to go back to sleep! 5. Overall furniture was not one of a luxury hotel. Read less

We really enjoyed staying at this very historic hotel. It is in a very good location to the freedom trail and to many restaurants in the downtown boston area. We really enjoyed staying at this very historic hotel. It is in a very good location to the freedom trail and to many restaurants in the downtown boston area. Our room was very nice, had a good view, seemed to look like it was perhaps recently renovated, and it was very clean. We wished though that we had a refrigerator. Also, the bathroom sink was small and had no counter area. But overall we had liked our stay. Thought the charge for valet parking was a bit too high, especially since we just left our car parked for our entire stay. But overall had enjoyed this elegant looking hotel very much and would definitely stay here again! Read less

Really nice hotel, friendly staff. comfortable bed. Rooms were small - tight with 2 large suitcases, but manageable. Things seemed to close up fairly early in the immediate area (bars, restaurants), but there were walkable options and location was ideal for visiting the historical sites.

If you’re used to paying $$$ for a hotel, you might find the rooms small and outdated, but I think it adds to the overall charm. The location is unbeatable and that alone makes it worth the price. Room service wasn’t being offered due to COVID (as of October 2021) but you’re able to grab a Boston cream pie to go from the Starbucks off of the lobby.

Obviously, this was once a very opulent hotel. It's still a nice place and you can see some of the grandeur, but the room decor is stuck between that time and now... very dated. Obviously, this was once a very opulent hotel. It's still a nice place and you can see some of the grandeur, but the room decor is stuck between that time and now... very dated. The view from my 9th floor room was nice. Because of COVID, the bar and restaurant had limited availability for service. No soda machines on property, so if those outlets were closed, the only option was to walk to Walgreens down the street. The concierge, Joseph, was very friendly and helpful. Front desk staff needs more training in providing customer service. They all seemed very curt and cold; not welcoming at all. The history at the property is fascinating and although there is a small "museum" in the basement, I think they could do a lot more given all the stories of the place. I heard more about the hotel outside it than I did inside. Read less
