ANdAZ West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Virgin rating

The hotel

As sleek and understated as it appears from its spot on LA’s legendary Sunset Boulevard, the Andaz West Hollywood is actually a prime slab of Rock ‘n’ Roll history that dates back to 1963. Over the years the likes of The Who’s Keith Moon and The Stones’ Keith Richards have sent TVs flying off the (now enclosed) balconies, while Led Zep drummer John Bonham reportedly rode a motorbike up and down the corridors. Thoroughly renovated for the 21st century the Andaz relishes its history, but these days the musical motifs complement the minimally chic décor in boutique-style rooms rather than run rampant. Indeed, there’s a friendly, unpretentious welcome here that extends from the hotel’s enticing eateries to its breathtaking rooftop pool (where, incidentally, Spinal Tap’s end of tour party was filmed). Rock. And. Roll.

Average Hyatt with above-average price. I guess you pay for the location more than the hotel. Hotel is on par with a 3 star Hyatt anywhere else - ant the Hyatt's near Disneyland (all three of them) are much better than this. NOT RECOMMENDED for families with young children. The pool in the picture looks ok. The pool in real life... disappointing.

Scottsdale rooms were PERFECT. No wear on anything and completely spotless. Common areas perfect. This hotel had carpet in hallways that needed replacement and was visibly dirty during the day. We stayed in the PENTHOUSE at the top of the building. Great view, nice bathroom, but you could tell it had a few miles on it. Again, it was nice, but not the caliber that I would expect. Read less

We enjoyed our stay at the Andaz very much. The staff was super friendly. The restaurant served good food. Rooms were nice. An extra plus for rock & roll fans with the great history. This was a very central location to exploring Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood Bowl, Warner Brothers Studio and Universal. I would stay here again.

I was in town for a memorial so not entirely a party. The front desk said I'd earn points for my stay but it turned out, after my stay, that Hyatt wouldn't honor what the desk staff told to me. I was in town for a memorial so not entirely a party. The front desk said I'd earn points for my stay but it turned out, after my stay, that Hyatt wouldn't honor what the desk staff told to me. If you ask like I did for any consideration, Hyatt will direct you to their terms and conditions and you'll just eat it because you didn't get it in writing. Dishonestly is a HUGE red flag for me. Otherwise, the hotel is nice and the staff are friendly. If I were paying the $800 usd a night they wanted to charge, I'd say it's not worth it. As I said, I was super disappointed that their corporate people wouldn't make good on what their desk staff told me. Not happy being told to go kick rocks. Housekeeping defaults to every third day. You can ask them to clean before that and they will. Some people dislike this policy but I understand it saves on water and Los Angeles needs all the water it can get. The location is decent enough although you do need to travel a ways to get anywhere. Hollywood is perhaps the closest attraction but you can't walk there for example. You are close to the sunset strip if that's your game. I can't recommend the Andaz, I did like my room, but I can't recommend Hyatt and with the lie at the desk, and lack of consideration by their corporate people, no matter how pleasant staff are. I'm already heading back to LA in a few months. I would stay at this hotel again but not with the shenanigans around credits for staying. Read less

Our family loved this place and if we come back to the area we'll stay here again. The service was great- there was a low-key vibe here- the pool was wonderful, there were some unexpected extras- refillable water bottles and snacks in the lobby. We really enjoyed our stay.
