EDITION West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Virgin rating

The hotel

Sunset Boulevard is known for it's glitz and glamour, dining and nightlife - so the West Hollywood EDITION certainly fits right in. With it's sleek design, rooftop pool, delectable dining, and late night music, you'll be living the film star life here. Your location is ideal for exploring Beverly Hills and Hollywood, whilst it's also an easy drive to the beaches of Santa Monica and Venice. But you don't really have to move from the hotel if you don't wish. The centre spot of the hotel is the roof terrace, adorned with plants and overlooking the LA city. Dip your toes in the pool whilst you sip on a tropical-inspired cocktail or a chilled glass of rose. Back in your light-filled room you'll also enjoy views for days, whether it be the Hollywood hills or downtown LA. Upgrade to a suite to enjoy a large soaking tub, and in the bathroom you'll find the the hotels signature scent, The Edition, available to spray upon yourself. Ardor is the place to satisfy your hunger pangs, spearheaded by one of the most famous vegetable chefs in the world. So whilst there are meat dishes on the menu (we recommend the melt-in-the-mouth pork belly dish), there's a huge range of plant based dishes too, all of which can be enjoyed on the beautifully decorated terrace on those warm evenings. At the weekend, extend your fun late into the night at Sunset. A modern nightclub in the spirit of the dozens that lined Sunset Strip in the 60's and 70's. With music from all genres, you can dance the night away.

Overall, the Edition Hotel was pretty nice. My boyfriend and I travel often and particularly seek out "Editions." So far, we have stayed at the one here, in Barcelona, Reykjavik, Rome, and NYC (both locations). The restaurant (Ardor) has a cool vibe and had some good dishes, and I loved that they had a pool table in the lobby -- it kept things lively. Having said that, this location is the only one that has left a bit of a salty taste in my mouth, mostly due to communication issues. I stayed at the WEHO Edition for a total of 10 days in February. The room was wonderful and housekeeping always did a superb job. The negative was when I sent in a brand new designer scarf to their dry cleaning service. I carefully wrote on the form that it was designer + newly purchased in the days prior, and noted the small area that I was hopeful could be cleaned (a red mark -- lip gloss, I assumed). Their form claims that there is an upcharge for *designer* items - - understandable... because they have to take extra gentle care with it. When the scarf was returned to me, it had noticeable holes in the corners, and they had completely ironed out the seams of the outside edges of the scarf (Hermes scarf/designer scarves have hand rolled seams - you never "iron" out the seams or it ruins them/can never be reversed). The holes were clearly due to pins, i.e., they did not treat my item with the proper upmost care (as the bill at the end reflected). I brought this up to the head of housekeeping and felt immediately dismissed as he said the dry cleaner claimed it was fine. Eventually the hotel offered to file a claim/have me send pics, etc. I didn't hear anything at all for 13 days... so I reached out to them and received a standard message from one of Marriotts insurance adjusters, Brenton, that he'd be helping me. Again, didn't hear anything further for 3 weeks, so I had to reach back out again on my own. I got a message back this morning stating that they won't take responsibility. Hotel Edition: I'm surprised by ya'll. Everyone else: the hotel is beautiful, but even though it's in WEHO and they boast all about the celebrities and parties they host + high levels of service + attention to detail... if you're traveling with beautiful pieces of clothing and have an "oops" that requires dry cleaning.. find one on your own accord and don't assume this hotel has your support. We first stayed here when it had recently opened. While it's not really my style - I prefer quirky boutique hotels - I appreciated the minimalist design, spacious rooms, rooftop pool and the little coffee shop area that offered free coffee, tea and Danish in the mornings. Fast forward to now and the place is not aging well. The carpets in the hallway are dirty and smell bad. The sheets have holes. The room thermostat doesn't work and on a chilly spring night you freeze - no extra blanket in the closet. The front desk staff are extremely courteous and debonair, but the cleaning staff is of a different caliber. They take away your used coffee cups and don't replace them, so after Day Two you can't use the in-room nespresso machine anymore. You call the front desk, they assure you that they are sending replacements up "right away" - as of this writing, that was 25 minutes ago. They are more adept at squeezing the guests: 70 dollars a day for parking? And that free coffee and Danish - that's been canceled. This will be our last stay here. Read less

There were no towel bars whatsoever, ridiculous in a state where water conservation is at a premium. Oddly, many of the electrical sockets did not hold plugs, so that electronics did not stay plugged in. There was not enough lighting in the room unless the overheads were on. To the contrary, there were no dimmers on the bathroom lighting, so night time visits were either in full light or darkness. An espresso machine was provided but with very tiny pods so that only a few sips of coffee could be had at a time. There is an excellent restaurant but it’s quite pricey. When we checked in, there was only one staffer at the desk though there was a line. Read less

The staff at the upstairs restaurant, in particular, is really bad - not only are they often rude, but on multiple occasions I had to interrupt them talking about memes and TikToks to just get their attention to do their jobs. Contrasted with the roof pool staff, who are attentive and friendly, it's night and day. The main desk downstairs seems to always be understaffed. The rooms are fine, but not particularly luxurious - and the property and brand are quickly eroding in terms of value. They could differentiate with 5 Star service, but instead seem to hire cool young people who don't want to work or haven't been trained properly. Is it worth the price? Not really. Food's not great, rooms are starkly minimal and location has many alternatives nearby. I like the Edition brand and would love to see the WeHo hotel stand up to my experiences in NYC and London, but right now it simply doesn't. Read less

The pool is probably the best city hotel pool in LA but otherwise other hotels offer a much warmer feeling. Read less
