The hotel

With this hotel offering two-room suites all round, it's tempting to stay in and relax for longer, but the complimentary hot breakfast buffet and made-to-order omelette station will help get you out and set up for the day! At the Embassy Suites by Hilton Monterey Bay Seaside, you are a couple of blocks from the beach and just two miles north of Downtown Monterey, with lots of attractions and activities along the Bay too, such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium or Steinbeck Museum. Alternatively, head out in the car for 20 minutes or so for a bit of hiking, winery action or spa treats. The hotel’s 2-hour evening reception with complimentary cocktails and snacks is a great way to kick-off your evening. The Silver Tide Bar & Grill is in the atrium too, so why not drop in afterwards for some local California cuisine?

We got to our room and found the living area table to be very tippy and falling apart, the condition of the chairs and desk were also very poor for a hotel that charged us almost $600 per night. Worst there was mold EVERYWHERE in the bathroom. (See attached photos) An absolute health hazard from a “luxury hotel.” You couldn’t pay me to stay here again. Read less

This was obviously a pet room of which we had none, and was not fit to be rented out to anyone in my opinion. We moved rooms but next one not much better as old & dated with damaged furniture, lots of dirt on windows, etc. Breakfast was pretty basic and a bit chaotic. They charged $20 per night for parking and there were plenty of spaces, with a Chillys conveniently placed at far end of the lot. Hotel was not in the best of areas and a bit out of town. There was no follow up or real apology re our issues from the staff until we checked out the following morning when the young man on reception did seem to care but it was too late. Considering the very high cost of the hotel we were very disappointed and would definitely not recommend it as there are much better ones close to center of town at similar costs. We moved to the Portola Hotel & Spa Monterey and very much enjoyed it for the next 3 nights. Read less

We joined my niece and her family for a mini get away to the Monterey area. They booked two adjoining rooms, so we could all be together. The hotel was easy to get to (just right off Highway 1). It had plenty of parking, although the lot and stalls were on the smaller side. Checking in was quick although we needed my niece’s husband to be present to show his ID (he booked under Friends & Family). Another agent told him since he added my name to the reservation, he didn’t need to be present for us to check in. They definitely need to get that worked out. It was fortunate he was in the parking lot when we checked in, so we didn’t have to wait long. It could have been quite inconvenient. The rooms were nice and big, but because they didn’t turn on the AC it was a little musty! Also, there was a noticeable stain on the carpet in the living room. All the rooms were in the outer parts of the building with a tall atrium in the middle. As a result, the living room and kitchenette area had no natural light. Even with all the lights on, it was a bit on the dark side. The bedrooms had windows, so they had plenty of light. We did attend Cocktail Hour. There were chips & salsa and vegetables and ranch dressing. My husband’s Long Island IcedTea was quite watered down. He said I could have drank it (I don’t drink). We also ate breakfast at the hotel. The cooked to order breakfast was better than the buffet offerings. The standard scrambled eggs and sausages in the buffet were average. Through the Friends and Family Program, we got a $15 credit/day to spend at the hotel. I utilized the credits. Upon checkout, I got a print out for our room. I didn’t see the $15 credits because they didn’t fully itemize the purchases. I had to contact them to inquire about it. As for the amenities, the hotel had a small indoor pool. My great nieces and their dad swam along with a few other families with small children. They enjoyed it. There were three glass elevators, but they were small. During our stay, one was out of service for a day, so it made it longer to get an elevator when you needed one. Would I stay here again, I’m not sure. They charge $20/day to self-park! I’m giving them 4/5 Stars for the size of the rooms and overall cleanliness (not including carpet stain). Read less
