The hotel

Escape to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach — this retreat sits next to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve so is ideal for a bit of walking, cycling or nature viewing. You'll be welcomed by 26-acres of lush landscaping, before the lobby and bar area lure you in with a calm, coastal California chic theme. Next to the lobby bar, the patio has a fire wall and magnificent views of the bay — and those views carry through to many of the guest rooms. Take your pick from three beautiful outdoor pools: chill at the adults-only 'Indulge' pool and find a restful spot at the 'Serenity' pool, or have fun with the kids at the 'Oasis' pool. Whether your passion is shopping, dining, boating, or performing arts, you’ll find it close by. Hit the beach, take to the water on Newport Bay, or wander the shops at Balboa Island and Fashion Island. Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the Aquarium of the Pacific and Laguna Beach are just a little further away.

Went to this hotel for a 6-day getaway trip, and it was worth every penny!! Everybody here was on their game. Upon arrival, I met Sichi, the Operations Manager….she was so warm, friendly, and welcoming….checking up on me to ensure my stay was going well. And a big shout out to Ashley from the Front Desk. Upon arrival, I met Sichi, the Operations Manager….she was so warm, friendly, and welcoming….checking up on me to ensure my stay was going well. And a big shout out to Ashley from the Front Desk. Being the hiking enthusiast that I am, she recommended a walking trail that ran along the Back Bay Road, and it was awesome for doing morning walks!! A return trip is definitely in order….thank you so much!!! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Very dated, overpowering smells and poor condition. Should be renovated or rebranded to a budget hotel.

Room has a very strong musky smell which is masked by an overpowering chemical spray. This is not a cleaning issue, just the result of a very poorly maintained hotel. Room is very dark and feels like you are in a basement, even on a sunny day. When you try to escape the smell, you are presented on a patio with an air conditioner that feels like… Read more

Room is very dark and feels like you are in a basement, even on a sunny day. When you try to escape the smell, you are presented on a patio with an air conditioner that feels like a jet engine on a takeoff roll. Far from relaxing. Desk is in rough shape held together with multiple rough repairs - looks like something purchased at a flee market for $15. Chair has holes in it as if someone was attacked in it. Honestly is more in line with a Days Inn than a Hyatt. Hotel desperately needs to be renovated OR reflagged to a budget brand. Yet the price makes no sense. Too many better options nearby. Would not stay again. The worst Hyatt Regency I have ever visited... and I stay in many of them. Read less

We stayed here 3 years ago and liked it so much that we booked for this year. We were slightly worried about the negative reviews but the hotel is excellent. Pool facing room is spacious, clean and modern. Hotel staff are very welcoming and helpful. Food and drink is expensive but that’s to be expected. Would have no hesitation in recommending… Read more

I love this place . Clean rooms with comfortable beds is number #1. Beautiful grounds and landscaping . Love all the amenities: Three pools, golf, bikes, fitness center , on site restaurant - etc . The location is great and close to the bay . The whole place feels friendly .

It's a Mac with very minimal access, and a cheap printer that was out of toner. I even called to confirm there was an actual business center. At best it's good for printing out a boarding pass - hotel rooms are outdated - my balcony was over the lower building so not a good view - food was okay but definitely not worth the price Read less
