The hotel

Bringing that island feel to the Californian desert city, Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs is the first of the famous chain on the West Coast so you can enjoy the relaxed and colourful vibe as part of your US road trip, or for a chance to chill out by the pool with a cocktail in hand. With a calendar of activities including poolside games, movie nights and live DJ’s, this large resort caters for all ages. There’s two pools to relax by, or visit the spa for an array of treatments that will have you feeling like you’re on a secluded island somewhere! You’re just moments from the shopping and golf that Palm Springs is famous for, and parking is included in the resort fee. You don’t need to leave the resort really though – you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to food. Enjoy a steak at JWB Grill, quasedillas by the pool, or grab a takeaway pizza and enjoy it on your balcony when you book a Deluxe Room. If you’ve visited a Margaritaville before you’ll know they’re famous for the ‘5 o’clock somewhere’ bar and this place is no different. It’s the staple of any Margaritaville experience.

Large resort around 30minute walk into downtown. Large pools family friendly. Needs a refurb and housekeeping was poor with lack of delivering on numerous requests. Great happy hour in the bar. There is a cafe and a good restaurant albeit on the pricey side

I really wanted to stay at this hotel. The brand absolutely fascinates me and I wanted to see how Jimmy Buffet’s song translated into a hotel. The hotel lobby is gorgeous. Amazing art everywhere - take a photo by the flip flop. The door staff are lovely (opening the door and welcoming you in) and the receptionist who checked me in was very professional. The layout of the hotel is a bit confusing- basically a collection of buildings around the pool. The room was very clean, had chintzy art (as I would expect). Lovely toiletries, great coffee, and well set out. There was a fridge and a keurig machine. The bed is a bit soft The gym was small, but all machines were new and well-maintained. The pool area had lots of loungers and towels available. Everywhere is a photo opportunity. The lovely staff in the huts make great cocktails and you can get poolside food. They will also happily snap photos for you. I didn’t visit the restaurants - but the menus looked awesome (but expensive) with themed food offerings. The prices were a tad high in the hotel shop and bar / restaurants. Pro tip - there’s a 7-11 across the road that has cheap coffee and snacks. I absolutely loved this hotel, it literally felt like living in the margaritaville song, but … Just one thing - they whack a $40 resort fee per night. Even if you buy the room from a third party booking site. I arrived late night and explained that if I was only going to be there for about 14 hours - I couldn’t use the resort offerings, do I still have to pay? The (very professional) receptionist said there was nothing she could do because there was no on-duty manager in the evening. Checkout was a breeze, but the queues were a bit long. Overall I loved this hotel and can recommend it. But do be aware of the resort fee when deciding your budget Read less
