Combining 20th century grace with 21st century technology, the Citizen Hotel offers guests a luxurious urban retreat in to the heart of downtown Sacramento. Although there are plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, the hotel’s own Grange Restaurant is highly recommended, utilising local cuisine to produce a superb range of dishes. dinner reservations at Grange Restaurant next door and we didn't want to drive back to Reno after so we asked if they had a room available. They gave us the worst room in the hotel, 3rd floor across from a nightclub on a Saturday. You can guess how we slept. We stayed in the hotel before, but that was the last time. They gave us the worst room in the hotel, 3rd floor across from a nightclub on a Saturday. You can guess how we slept. We stayed in the hotel before, but that was the last time. Next time we will go down the street to the Hyatt. BTW they charge you $37 per day for valet parking. The whole Sacramento downtown where the hotel is located is a s***hole. Homeless camps, trash on the street. One homeless with poop on his pants walked into the hotel lobby while talking to himself and got into an elevator. Nobody was stopping or questioning him, like in NYC where they have Doormen/Security at the hotel doors Read less

The Citizen is a real jewel in the heart of downtown Sacramento, could not have asked for a better place to stay. Loved the old-school architecture, nice and cozy. And the staff was superb, very attentive to my needs. Big shout out to Nelly in particular. She’s very personable and that was appreciated.

Nelly was also very hospitable. She is so nice and always servicing with a smile on her face. Nelly assisted me with vouchers from the front desk too. She does it all. The last valet, Sukari, held great conversation and was hustling every time. The hotel was cool but I was expecting there to be a rooftop balcony or lounge. The valet team made the stay worth while. Signed Moran Norris, former Fullback for the SF 49ers. Read less

Alex M was so helpful getting us checked in. She is a valuable asset! I wasn’t able to check in at the time I requested but she made sure we were happy while we waited. All of the front desk staff was very helpful!

Keep in mind we have spent 2 weeks traveling Marriotts throughout California (many Ritz) and early check in has never been even a concern! So we asked to stow our bags and wed gran a quick bite. Please know the hotel is in a BAD part of town!!! Literally 12 homeless encounters on the one street block of the hotel! The next few blocks werent any better- think literally tent city. It did not feel safe to walk with my daughter. The park directly in front has a large homeless population. I have traveled the world and have no hesitations, but this definitely did not feel safe. We walked back, got our bags and left. The hotel looked very nice, but we left actually thankful for the ridiculous check in experience- made leaving much easier. Read less
