Hotel Del Coronado

The hotel

‘The Del’ as the Coronado is known as has been open for business since 1888 and is a designated National Historic Landmark! Indeed, it’s been the backdrop to many a Hollywood movie, including Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe. The last of California’s stately old seaside hotels, it is a monument to Victorian grandeur with virtually no two rooms alike and a sumptuous wood panelled lobby that has to be seen to be believed. Recent additions include Shore House at The Del, an elevated hotel experience in an extraordinary neighborhood of seaside villas. From an oceanfront pool that blends seamlessly into the horizon, to an inviting living room that flows effortlessly outdoors, Shore House offers an extraordinary sense of place, where family and friends form deep connections in a rare beachside setting. The Del's newest restaurant inside the beautifully restored Laundry building. Dine outside on the lawn and watch the action at the BBQ Pit or gather inside the historic brick building beneath vaulted ceilings and the Laundry's original conveyor system. Pull up a stool at the historic wooden bar from the 1880s for inventive cocktails, beer and wine.

This Hotel first came to my Attention watching the film "The Stuntman". Peter O'Toole, Barbara Hershey, and Steve Railsback made such an Impression watching this Film that I knew I would vist the Hotel Del Coronado. I have stayed there several times over the years and it has always been a great experience.

We took the Legendary Tour with Liz and it was a terrific experience. Liz was so very well versed in the history of the Hotel del. We learned so much and enjoyed our tour. In addition, Robert was able to procure a wheelchair for my mother - it was a big win so that she could follow along the tour easily. Thanks Robert! And thanks to Liz for… Read more

Unresolved issues with bedding. Mattress and pillows were on their last leg. In a phone call from hotel staff responding to lengthy feedback about our experience, I was told all the bedding was new and all mattresses were the same. If true, watch out! Some staff tried more than others. Once they get major renovations done, if they can… Read more

Beautiful property. The food and drinks are crazy expensive. 4 drinks, 2 tacos and salsa were $120.00! There are signs about sewage in the ocean water so you cannot swim. The property is under construction so it's not the best time to visit. Save your money and eat before you visit!

We will not return to this hotel. We took our two kids on what we thought would be a fun spring break trip to San Diego. The amenities advertised on the website that we were excited to enjoy included riding the hotel bikes around town, lounging by the beach, and roasting marshmallows at a beach bonfire. NEWSFLASH! The bikes are not complementary - they are $20 or $25 per bike per hour. The beach chairs are not complementary. To sit on a chaise lounge at the beach, you must pay $50 per chair per day. That's $200 per day for our little family of four to sit at the beach. And the marshmallows by the fire were also not complementary - that costs $200 per family. In addition to that, the valet was $75 per day, there is a $200 resort fee, and a $15 per day "historical preservation" fee, aka you're paying for all the construction noise. The scope of the construction going on there cannot be understated - half the entire resort is under construction. It's loud, it's ugly, and several restaurants are closed. For what we spent at this hotel, we were sorely disappointed and there are too many other incredible beach resorts at this price point that offer so much more. Hotel Del, you were not worth it!!!
