Paradise Point Resort & Spa

San Diego, California

Virgin rating

The hotel

Overlooking spectacular Mission Bay in San Diego, you can really take advantage of the bayside setting here — chill out by the water or by one of the pools, go out in a sailboat or speedboat, or take surf lessons. Paradise Point is set on its own 44-acre island, with lush gardens and a mile-long white sand beach. One of the best things about it is that whilst its secluded spot makes you feel like you are a million miles away from it all, you're actually just minutes from downtown San Diego.

Great place to stay. You are located near attractions or you can just enjoy the resort. We were able to walk to Sea World and to Belmont Park. Rental bikes are nice to to take over to the beach area as well.

Our family decided to visit Paradise Point to get a break from work and school during spring break of 2024 and we had an amazing time. The resort was emasculate and the restaurants did not disappoint.

My first time to Paradise Point, but it will not be my last! The facilities are amazing and the staff is so helpful and nice. I love the bungalows, seems so much more welcoming than a traditional hotel.

What a perfectly wonderful weekend. The room was just so well appointed that it even smelled relaxing. The towels were plush, the wall paper cool and the private patio was just what the doctor ordered.

Our third stay. We have returned only on the strength of the grounds which are indeed lovely. The rooms, however, are dark and cavelike. Even on the sunniest San Diego day, you'll need to turn on artificial lights to be able to see inside the room. They are still operating "on demand" maid service (which you need to schedule well in advance). As a result, the rooms are not the cleanest. You'll want to bring slippers or your feet will be filthy in no time. We've booked bay front, premium garden/lagoon view, and regular lanai view. We've been disappointed in each. Be sure to study the map in advance and see what you can get when you check in, don't just accept the room assigned. I failed to do this on the most recent stay and we ended up with a patio facing a hedge in front of busy and noisy Ingraham rood. Our room had a fridge that was barely functional due to frost buildup. It also had a microwave at knee height in a cabinet (clearly an afterthought). The pathways around the central ponds are showing their age: rotted, peeling and splintered wood, crumbling pavement. Be careful with your booking. I had a confirmation page with one rate but they tried to charge me a higher rate when I checked in. The confirmation email doesn't indicate when you book a Park and Play rate, so there could be confusion there, too. All in all, it left me with a poor impression. We are going to try one of the other area resorts next time. Read less
