The hotel

It’s said that life in San Francisco is best lived on the waterfront. Where better to sample it than at Hotel Zoe, a stroll from Pier 39 and the bay. Wander out and you’ll stumble upon many fabulous shops and eateries, or pop into the hotel’s Italian trattoria for homemade crab ravioli or roasted sea bass. They serve a delicious breakfast too - why not grab a table on the sidewalk and watch as Mason Street comes to life?

(re-posted from 7/30 since TA did not publish first time around) I figure since I'm wide awake now at 2a and will not be going back to sleep anytime soon after being JOLTED out of a dead sleep by the fire alarm, I'll save you the money and trouble of contemplating this hotel. I booked this hotel through Amex after always trusting TA and its been the worst travel experience I've had in my 36 years of life. First of all, we arrived prior to check in time (we didn't expect our room to be ready we would just leave our bags with the bellman and go grab lunch) and were told there was no one who could help us with bags and pushed a luggage cart our way for us to unload and stack 4 peoples luggage. So #1 if you're looking for a full service hotel (which I expected for a $350/night room) this place is not for you. THEN, the guy at the front desk just wanted to make sure we knew our rooms were actually ready but if we wanted to take our bags up and drop them in there it'd be an extra $50 charge. Oh, ok thanks, nah I think since we already paid over $700 for the two couples for one night to fumble our own luggage, we will just wait, but thanks for letting us know our empty room is just sitting there awaiting our arrival in a couple of hours. Once we did get to check in, we get to our room (only one of the two keys worked) and let me tell you, I don't know if these pictures on Trip Advisor are only of their "premium" rooms or if they just stuffed us in a janitorial closet (which is totally possible, especially as you read on). We have a tiny sink with zero counter space and not enough room on either side of the bed for even one of our suitcases so had to just open our bags in the middle of the tiny amount of floor in this cracker box between the bed and TV. So, we can't have our luggage open and walk through the room, one or the other! We decided it was only one night and we could tough it out, big mistake! We both jumped out of bed at 2a with a blaring alarm yelling at us on repeat "FIRE FIRE BEEP BEEP, FIRE FIRE, BEEP, BEEP". We scrambled to get dressed and grabbed our phones only to realize there was no one else in the hallways, odd? Lucky us, it was just our tiny closet room. So now, with a heart rate nearly requiring medical attention, we call the front desk and tell her whats transpiring and she says "Oh, ok, I'll make a note of that". Um could you send someone up to help us please?! Someone comes about 10 minutes later (I will say the maintenance guy was super nice) and proceeds to set up a ladder to remove our smoke alarm. At this point the alarm has stopped and we have to tell him it was the fire alarm, NOT smoke alarm. He says he was told by front desk it was smoke alarm but needs to notify the front desk it was actually the fire alarm. Another 10-15 minutes goes by and we receive a call from the front desk telling us they need to move us rooms. So now at 3:06a I am dragging my bag down the hall (because remember there is no one to help with bags) to our new room where I will obviously be getting no sleep before I have to get up, get dressed, and head to the airport in two hours.. I'm actually hoping maybe this is all just a bad dream and I'm still in a deep slumber in the cracker box. So, if you want to pay top notch rates for no sleep and then, no help, you should consider this place. If not, steer clear. Read less

We took advantage of the free two hour bike rental and enjoyed cycling over Golden Gate Bridge - if you want to extend the bike rental it is only an extra $20 per bike for the whole day. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is lovely with attentive service. We had a rental car as this was our last stop on a road trip and as car crime is a concern in San Fran we took advantage of the hotel’s valet parking. It is an excellent service and convenient but $65 + tax as a a daily rate is $20 overpriced in my opinion. This is why I have only given four stars. Having said that, I would not hesitate to stay here again but would do a little more research for more cheaply priced secure parking in the area. Read less

We drove from Texas to New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada with multiple stops on our vacation. We were identified in New Mexico, Arizona and Las Vegas and thanked for our service. In San Francisco It seemed as though the business establishments are too concerned with foreign tourists to acknowledge the contributions of its American Citizens. This left a sour taste in my mouth. I didn't find the Wharf area to be Patriotic at all. Read less

The location of the hotel was really good. I stayed for 3 days and they cleaned my room every day, so I was able to relax very comfortably. It was so convenient to travel because of its good location, and the whole family had a good rest.

I had the best experience during my stay here at hotel Zoe. Thanks in large part to Rowena and Roy and everyone else on the staff. Everyone was very accommodating and responsive to all of our wants and desires. I can't wait to book my next stay! Oh, and San Francisco is pretty awesome too!
