Riu Plaza Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

Virgin rating

The hotel

Just a pleasant stroll from the shops and entertainment at Pier 39, and the ferry to Alcatraz, the Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf makes a stellar base to explore from. The hotel’s relaxed and friendly vibe is ideal after a day’s dim sum dining, cable car riding and selfie snapping. Your room is suitably airy and comfortable, you can kick back on the sun terrace by the outdoor heated pool, and, perhaps our favourite part, you can hangout by a crackling fire pit in the outdoor living area.

Fantastic hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly especially at the front desk. Breakfast had great options and food was delicious. Rooms are clean and extremely comfortable. We spent time in some other Riu locations and i would highly recommend this one. Perfect for anyone looking to explore SFO

The bed and pillows are very confortable. The buffet breakfast was copieux and gave me a lot of energy to start exploring San Francisco. One downside is that they only give you two complimentary bottles of water when you check in and after that you have to pay for the water in hotel. Usually in a four- star hotel water bottles are given to customers daily and without a charge. Fisherman's Wharf neighbourhood is ideal for taking a ferry to Alcatraz and there are F line and Powel and Hyde Street Car stops there so you can easily start exploring the beautiful city of San Francisco. Great location for easy access to Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, and rental bike companies. Short, but steep walk to Lombard & Hyde and downtown SAN Francisco also walkable. Room was clean, with mini-fridge & safe. Buffet breakfast choices were outstanding, and food quality excellent. The buffet was busy though, with very much a feeling of being… Read more

I stayed at this hotel for 2 days after a 5-day stay at the Palace Hotel in downtown SOMA since I wanted to be near the water & close to touristy stuff. I made a huge mistake & regretted this decision. The hotel is ok-ish & the floor plan is like a labyrinth. Some of the rooms are so far from the elevators that you have to keep walking. The room is small & the bathroom tiny. The flush doesn't work if you want to use it a second time - you have to wait till it gets filled & only then you can use it again. The bathroom looks dirty. All these are still workable but what I felt worst was the staff behaviour - the receptionist who checked me in was extraordinarily rude - she was not even prepared to look at my face while I checked in. I felt scared to even ask her about simple things like wifi etc. I was visiting solo & had oversized luggage with me - I was barely managing all of that & she dumped 2 bottles of water on top of that. Also, they don't give drinking water too...you will have to buy it. I called the guest helpline & asked for a dental kit, but whoever was on the opposite end gave me a horribly rude reply & said that nobody was sitting around to give me a dental kit & if needed, I would have to buy it from the market at the ground floor. The breakfast was average - they had a good spread but strangely none of the stuff was actually tasty. Cues start building from 7.30 am - if you want a stress free breakfast, then, go as early as 7-7.30 am. My room was not cleaned & I had to raise requests to get it cleaned. The only good thing about this hotel is location but everything else is horrible to say the least. Think twice before staying here specially if you are traveling alone. Read less

The hotel is soooo noisy, some of my family had to move rooms after the first night as it was just too bad to spend another sleepless night there. You can hear EVERYTHING from the rooms above. Breakfast is actually quite nice but the queues are horrific, rather akin to a school canteen kind of vibe. HOWEVER…the very worst thing about this place is that my son had his expensive cologne stolen from the room. We approached TWO members of staff at reception on TWO separate occasions and asked them about it and were just completely fobbed off saying there was nothing they could do. After this I did not feel comfortable staying there knowing there are dishonest people around. Would definitely not recommend this place. There are far better/nicer/more honest places to stay in SF.
