The hotel

If you like historic charm and classic character but want modern high-tech touches too, the Mark Hopkins may hit the spot. The hotel is pretty central too, so you’ll be close to many of the city's hotspots. Be sure to pop up to the 19th floor lounge for a sunset cocktail or a nightcap, as you gaze out over the skyline, Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. The lounge has a dance floor and live music on some nights, so you may stay longer than you plan to.

Bellman was very helpful and friendly as well. We had Champagne and appetizers at the Top of the Mark and received complementary desert and coffee. The room was extremely comfortable and clean with a beautiful view of the city and the bay. Housekeeping was excellent! Thank you to the wonderful staff for a very special stay for our anniversary! Unfortunately we could only stay one night as we motored on to vineyards and redwoods. Look forward to next year! Read less

I felt like I was working with some flea bag motel. After over an hour with a res person who was as close to clueless as one can get, I gave up and called the Hotel directly. Then I got a guy named Michael who I guess was working the switchboard. Wow, if he is the caliber of employees on site - I would be scared to stay. Tried to get to a manager - more torture. Bottom line, I gave up and am glad I did because when I looked closer and ratings it is clear that it is not a first class hotel anymore. Ah for the good ol days. Bottom line: be prepared to be tortured if you seek a res at this dusty old place. Read less

We were pleasantly surprised by the condition of this historic building and more so with the location. The hotel is located in Nob Hill where some of the best hotels in San Francisco can be found. We felt extremely safe walking around to the different restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our room was classy, clean and the bed super comfy. I sleep better with firm pillows and asked for some and were quickly provided with them. I also want to thank Robyn who was always very gracious to my wife and I each time we arrived or left the hotel. Overall, we could stay here again. Read less

We stayed one night when we had family visiting. The hotel is ideally situated so many things are a short walk or taxi ride away. The hotel is beautiful and oozes “old San Francisco” charm and grace. It’s a very quiet hotel which we liked, and the rooms are very comfortable. We also enjoyed a drink at the Top of the Mark which was a real treat!
