The hotel

Although it’s reopened with a new look, feel, and name, The Beacon Grand doesn’t want to ignore it’s past completely. The hotel pays a nod to the past, and homage to history of the city, with it’s original architechtual details – and it remains a social hotspot in the heart of Union Square. You’re in the centre of it all here, shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue is right opposite, the famous Powell Street Cable Car trundles right past the door of the hotel, and you’re right on the steps of the Theatre District – where will you start?! Well if you're not sure the 'Social Hosts' are on hand to give you insider tips. The rooms offer high ceilings and signature design, with a gel foam mattress that’ll ensure you have no problem getting to sleep. Beacon lounge is the heart of the hotel, acting as a communal living room by day and a lively gathering spot by night. Enjoy a whiskey or cocktail with live music at the weekends. Or if you fancy something a bit more exclusive, you’re one secret door away from the Hidden Library where vintage bourbons and classic cocktails are serviced just to your taste. It’s an iconic hotel that you can’t miss with the glistening of a rooftop star – so make sure you don’t miss out on seeing the inside too.

I came to San Francisco to visit my girlfriend Ana. She is trans. I was greeted by the doorman, AJ Pavel who after discovering I was a musician asked for my number. He began to solicit his services within moments, talking about how he was a producer. When he saw me leaving with my girlfriend Ana, he promptly text me “be careful with that” and continued to send me transphobic texts and warnings about my partner. It ruined our date, she asked who was writing me? What are they saying? I showed her my phone. She was heartbroken. I was distraught, disgusted and felt shame. It ruined my whole trip, the best Grettel could offer was a free breakfast and one night comped. I will never stay in this hotel again. I am a professional drummer with many contacts and friends that I will be informing about your transphobic hotel. I asked that AJ Pavel be fired or at least removed from the hotel until I left. He was there the very next day, my girlfriend and I saw him every day we entered and exited the hotel. Grettel informed me that though a case is opened up on this gentlemen that nothing could be done. Shame on your entire establishment. I thought San Francisco was the city of free love, apparently not at the Grand Beacon! Read less

Beautifully appointed classic and classy hotel. Parking is not great, but valet works fine. Starlite is a fabulous bar on the 21st floor. A must go!

We loved our last minute stay at the Beacon Grand. Staff was knowledgeable, welcoming, and so kind! We stayed with our two young children for a quick 1 night trip to the city and we loved the location, room size, bathtub (although it looks like they might be phasing these out), and amenities. No waits for the very fast elevators. Love the water… Read more

This is a great old hotel. Excellent location and the renovation was very well done. The rooms are beautifully designed. Dark blue color is very relaxing. Excellent food, and the Starlite bar on the top floor has a fantastic view.
