The hotel

Although it’s reopened with a new look, feel, and name, The Beacon Grand doesn’t want to ignore it’s past completely. The hotel pays a nod to the past, and homage to history of the city, with it’s original architechtual details – and it remains a social hotspot in the heart of Union Square. You’re in the centre of it all here, shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue is right opposite, the famous Powell Street Cable Car trundles right past the door of the hotel, and you’re right on the steps of the Theatre District – where will you start?! Well if you're not sure the 'Social Hosts' are on hand to give you insider tips. The rooms offer high ceilings and signature design, with a gel foam mattress that’ll ensure you have no problem getting to sleep. Beacon lounge is the heart of the hotel, acting as a communal living room by day and a lively gathering spot by night. Enjoy a whiskey or cocktail with live music at the weekends. Or if you fancy something a bit more exclusive, you’re one secret door away from the Hidden Library where vintage bourbons and classic cocktails are serviced just to your taste. It’s an iconic hotel that you can’t miss with the glistening of a rooftop star – so make sure you don’t miss out on seeing the inside too.

Beautiful hotel. The finishes in the rooms are luxe. Food and drinks are EXCELLENT. Service is also excellent, but can be slow, which could likely be improved with increased staffing. Advice to management: talk to staff to address their specific needs, so you can make sure your guests are taken care of.

This hotel is all about the aesthetics. It does look very nice! But many of the aesthetic choices seem to have been made at the expense of comfort. Not really what I'm after.

Our room was really just too small for a couple. Only 1 chair and no dresser. Very small closet space. Good for a single person on a short stay, I suppose.

Well renovated hotel with nice rooms and lobby. Room was good size and bed was very comfortable. However, first day we arrived, was given a key for a room where it was already occupied. Walked in to a room where there was people in bathroom and things were lying around - if I am in the room, I definitely will not appreciate people invading my room. Front desk explained that system was down the day before and they did not know the room was occupied. This really should not happen. On the good side, The valet / security service was good and helpful. Another issue I faced was being woken up at 3am every night by the loud banging outside - the sound proof of the rooms were really bad. 3am banging was probably clearing of rubbish while 4-5am, sometimes I hear shouting, all that did not make me feel particularly safe. Union square is also a lot quieter than I remembered it many years back. Overall, it’s a good hotel but maybe staying fisherman wharf might be a better option now and there are definitely areas to improve. Read less

Staff, staff, staff. Our 4th stay. The lobby bar is great before and after dinner. The Starlight Roof in the top floor can’t be topped for view and ambiance.
