Hotel Triton

Union Square, San Francisco

Virgin rating

The hotel

As chic as it is bohemian, Triton is one of the trendiest hotels in San Francisco. With a style all of its own, including suites designed by celebrities and art exhibits often hosted by the artists themselves, it’s one of those hotels you’re proud to ‘drop into conversation’ when you get home. The Triton team say it’s like staying with a fashionable friend who lives right by Union Square and Chinatown. With a Bag Butler to pick up your shopping from Union Square’s boutiques, an organic snack bar in your room, in-room spa treatments, and a wine social hour each evening, we think it’s probably better.

Nice location, clean and nice for the one night stay we had! Love the towels and bathroom item arrangements, love the bedding, love the decorations/artwork in the hotel, love how the entry to Chinatown is right across the street (Chinese restaurants need to be closer to Dragon Gate though….we had to walk up a few blocks in the dark to get to one restaurant that was still open at 10:30 pm….we travelled from far away and looked forward to walking for about an hour and trying small dishes of food, drink tea or get a cold refreshment), love how Starbucks is right across the street from Hotel Triton (except they close too early!), and love the little cafe right outside the hotel at the corner…..although, we didn’t get a chance to sit/enjoy/eat there……will hopefully get a chance next time (wish there was room service from cafe to Hotel). On another note, there are folks that sit outside the hotel and smoke, so it’s kind of annoying to have to walk past that….also, on the 2nd floor, we did smell smoke….one guy getting ice from the hallway machine appeared to be smoking or someone in one of the rooms was smoking, we could smell it heavily upon our return from Chinatown. We are non-smokers and prefer to have no smoke around us, especially in the rooms. Thank you Hotel Triton for the stay! Overall, it was unique, nice and convenient and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Hope to get to visit soon in the future. Read less

The rooms were cute and clean. I also booked a conference room for my small business meeting and the conference room was fantastic. We had snacks and drinks the whole time and a cute patio area where we ate our takeout from Chinatown. Strongly recommend this if you have a small team.

This hotel is central to a lot of great things, but unfortunately it is maintained very poorly. A surface level "boutique" renovation of the lobby just barely covers a dilapidated, rusty, dusty old place. Many things in my very tiny room were broken and they wouldn't come clean my room unless I gave them 24hrs notice. All this would be fine if it were a budget hotel, but the nightly price was pretty high and they surprised me upon check in with an additional 30$ a night "amenity fee' in that I couldn't decline. The 'amenities' were not worth it at all. I would not recommend staying here, unless being directly in the heart of everything is more important to you than quiet, comfort, and cleanliness. Read less

Good location Good service Nice lobby Free cold water dispenser on 6th floor You can leave your luggage while you go about your day, after checking out Cons... Expensive Stuffy and old smelling Small hotel room Bathroom was tiny and designed poorly The bathroom and shower was a disappointment. The way the shower is designed means it's impossible not for water to get onto the door, I really don't know what they were thinking when they designed this. The door was swelled and peeling and hard to close. Very small too, you have to squeeze in from the left side as the door almost hits the toilet when you open the door. Read less

The Triton surpassed all our expectations, from a chic decor to the best, most fun Happy Hour in SFO. The staff is exceptional, rooms comfortable and the best central location. We loved it and will return again soon
