Hotel Triton

Union Square, San Francisco

Virgin rating

The hotel

As chic as it is bohemian, Triton is one of the trendiest hotels in San Francisco. With a style all of its own, including suites designed by celebrities and art exhibits often hosted by the artists themselves, it’s one of those hotels you’re proud to ‘drop into conversation’ when you get home. The Triton team say it’s like staying with a fashionable friend who lives right by Union Square and Chinatown. With a Bag Butler to pick up your shopping from Union Square’s boutiques, an organic snack bar in your room, in-room spa treatments, and a wine social hour each evening, we think it’s probably better.

The fun design and brightness of suites made for a sunny stay even when it was overcast outside! Enjoyed the operable windows in the suites, giving a choice between A/C and free air. Happy Hour in the lobby provided a relaxing end to a workday prior to exploring the area.

Such a cute little boutique hotel! Room was perfect in size for one or two people. Comfortable bed and pillows! Love the refillable carafe in the room. Brian at the front desk was great and very hospitable! Happy hour was a good touch. Wasn’t able to try the breakfast but, Cafe de La Presse next door was definitely a plus! My husband got COVID for the first time (a great 4-year COVID-free run), and since we live in a small SF condo, I needed to make sure he had room to chill. So off I went to the Triton. My husband got COVID for the first time (a great 4-year COVID-free run), and since we live in a small SF condo, I needed to make sure he had room to chill. So off I went to the Triton. As someone who works down the street from the hotel, I can say it is a GREAT location. I was shocked at how quiet it is at night (it's not during the day). You are next to Chinatown, within walking distance to Northbeach, the Waterfront, the financial district, Union Square, the theater district, and our public transportation. The rooms are small but adorable, the beds and linens are top-notch and the wifi is strong enough to stream movies. The included breakfast is nothing to write home about, but Cafe De La Presse downstairs is lovely, or Posh Bagel down the street is excellent for a fast bite. As a plus-size person, I will say the placement of the toilet in the bathroom is a little awkward, but you can probably ask about that during check-in. All in all, it is a great hotel, and I will definitely suggest it to people coming into town. Read less

We took a chance on a single location hotel over a household name chain, and we were so glad we did! Located conveniently between Union Square and Chinatown, and only a handful of blocks from the bay, the Hotel Triton was lovely from start to finish. From the moment we were greeted and checked in by Heleina, to when Jay checked us out and bid us farewell, we felt comfortable, cozy, and safe. The hotel doesn’t skimp on hospitality, with good pastries, fresh whole fruit, coffee, and juice every morning for breakfast, to the cruet and filtered water dispenser provided, to the free happy hour afternoon. This extended to the personnel also, as every single person we interacted with in any way was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel benefits from a recent remodel with a warm mid-century modern vibe and beautiful finishes. The nearly 100-year-old establishment keeps its well-earned vintage charm while providing thoughtful modern conveniences, like USB chargers on the nightstands and Google Chromecast capability on the TV. So much character, but everything we wanted in our four night stay. A comfortable, charming hotel, in a safe, centrally located area, with friendly staff and above and beyond touches, all at a reasonable price will have us looking to Hotel Triton again when we return!
