Family of 4 in one room. Staff is exceptional except for the lady when I checked out. I am a Marriott client and gave her my feedback (which I will detail later). She simply agreed and said other guests have complained about the same thing and that it was unfortunate. Didn't offer any compensation or show much compassion. When I insisted on paying a portion of the invoice in cash and asked her to explain what I thought was an error on the invoice, her demeanor totally changed. She was able to control herself, but I saw that I really hit a nerve and she was about to lose it. Not what you expect from Marriott. The issue is that this hotel is a very nicely refurbished older building. Older meaning older windows and wood construction. We were 4 in the room but at times felt we were at least 5 (we heard the patrons upstairs walking...and they walked ALOT). We were also pleasantly woken up at 5am by the waste management trucking picking up the metal bin located across the street. It was so bad I thought our window was open, but no...they are just really old. They have a very nice courtyard that you can enjoy with heat lamps and gaz fireplace. There is also coffee and cookies available in the morning. The location is 2nd to none. We parked the car and never took it out. You can walk everywhere (Lombard street, Pier to Alcatraz, Ghirardelli square...) Overall perfectly located and well refurbished. Staff was excellent but the lady at reception during checkout really left a sour taste in my mouth. Read less

I wish there was an option to give this hotel a higher score!! Initially we were a little apprehensive based on some previous negative reviews and the fact that although I altered the dates after booking, all of the confirmation emails contained the original dates and I couldn't get reassurance that the dates had actually been changed. When we arrived we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. I explained the situation re booking dates to Jazz at the front desk and she apologised for the miscommunication and told me she would resolve it (which she promptly did). The hotel was immaculate - and I mean Immaculate!! Cleaning staff were everywhere. The complimentary laundry room was a big bonus for a backpacking family. Security was excellent and there was complimentary tea and coffee each morning. I went to use the laundry room one evening and a member of staff who had finished work took the time to show me how everything worked. One morning, I went to get a complimentary tea only to find there were no tea bags, a staff member quickly went off to find some and came back with the tea bags and some madelines for the family. Every staff member that I encountered over our 4 night stay said hello as they passed. The courtyard was a lovely space for families, shame it closes so early but I understand the need to keep noise levels down. I really don't understand some of the poor reviews here, I guess it's down to individual expectations. Read less

We stayed here as the hotel was in walking distance to Pier 39. We initially rented a car and then returned it, as the hotel was a great location to dining, cafe’s, and the bay. This Marriot is so updated, and interiorly designed with an industrial theme. I loved the decor. They have a beautiful courtyard which I observed large families using to eat and hang out. The courtyard has a painted mural which is absolutely stunning. They have a concrete ping pong table, which we used. We enjoyed our stay while visiting San Francisco. Read less

We fully agree with user donfJ6050QL: "This turned out to be an excellent location. The hotel was clean and the rooms were very nice. What really set it apart for us was the staff. Regardless of which employee you ran in to, they stopped what they were doing, asked if they could help and wished us a nice day. They made it a 5 star experience."
