The hotel

After a big renovation at the end of 2019, you’ll get to check out a brand new Union Square hotel. The Clift Royal Sonesta is a stunning meeting of the glamourous Italian Renaissance-style and the beautiful modern design, reflective of this cutting edge city. The legendary Redwood Room, always a San Francisco favourite, has been refreshed while preserving its iconic history, and there's a new bistro to check out. This was my second stay at The Clift for a business trip. The lobby is welcoming and the bar is a great spot to unwind at the end of the night. The price is unmatched for the area and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I really enjoy the cafe for breakfast.

This hotel was a total delight. I booked here for a work trip to be in a location that was close to the airport and close to some work meetings in Oakland. It turned into an impromptu sisters trip. The front desk staff here were so accommodating, and charming. They were able to put my sister and me in rooms next to each other, even though she was arriving the next day. The rooms here were spotlessly clean, with very comfortable beds. Decor was chic without being corny or twee. The cafe for breakfast is great. Best of all, the bar with its wood paneling and attentive service was a great place to hang out. We ended up staying for dinner; food was a lovely surprise. I had booked this just for a work trip, and left really pleasantly surprised. The only knock is the location/neighborhood wasn't as charming as the hotel itself. Read less

Fantastic, central location. Friendly staff. Spotless rooms. Great rate. Even had a nice view. Very obliging management. Will definitely stay there again. They have a nice gym, and the bar was hopping in the evenings with entertainment! I highly recommend.

Great hotel. Location is perfect for Union Square and Chinatown and walkable to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. Five to ten minutes walk to public transport to entire city if preferred. Rooms were clean and very big. Beds were comfortable. Shower was decent and easy to use.
