The hotel

A member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Shutters on the Beach is an award-winning establishment with a distinctly discerning clientele. Similar in style to a 1920s or 1930s beach resort, it is light, airy and luxurious with many works of art on show, including pictures by David Hockney and Robert Motherwell. Rooms and suites boast all the comforts of home and are very generous in size with great views of the ocean. Amenities include the gorgeous ONE Spa offering a wide range of signature treatments, including the Signature Facial with Augustinus Bader. There’s also a swimming pool to laze by and a well-equipped fitness centre with sauna and steam rooms. One Pico is the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, showcasing a seasonally changing menu of modern American cuisine. If a more laid-back atmosphere appeals, however, beach-side cafe Coast more than fits the bill and is open from morning until night. For afternoon tea and evening cocktails, look no further than the lobby lounge, a cosy, intimate space that is popular with locals and guests alike.

I have stayed at many really nice hotels. Of couse the location, facilities, and the weather were great. However, it was the staff that made this experience the best hotel stay I have ever had. Thank you!

Beautiful restaurant in Santa Monica with a view. We enjoyed the upstairs patio deck with good food and drinks. The patio space was green and leafy which would be a great spot for brunch. Our server was top notch, and we will be retiring again.

I can't write a Hotel review, Since I wasn't invited on my wife's "Girls Night Out". They tell me they had a great time. Until they returned home and found out that her entire heirloom jewelry collection was left behind. @#$%^!! It was easily worth more than the trip itself. But Thank God, for the honesty, diligence, and caring of the entire Shutters Staff. For which I will be extremely and eternally grateful. Special thanks to Hector in the Security Office who quarterbacked the return and also to the unknown housekeeper who found the gold hoard and turned it in. I'd build her a statue if I was a Sculptor. I learned one lesson I would like to pass on. It would behoove any traveler, to time stamp / photograph any valuables before leaving to help identify items if left across country. Once again, Shutters on the Beach has my undying gratitude for rescuing what could have been a lifetime of regret. Read less
