The hotel

No sooner have you stepped foot inside the Casa Madrona than you'll be embraced by the beauty and style of Sausalito with views across Richardson Bay and beyond always complimenting the refined sophistication of the hotel's intimate hillside setting. Breathtaking scenery aside, Sausalito is well-known as being a vibrant hub for artists and like-minded travellers with an abundance of stores, galleries and workshops adding to a charming seaside village atmosphere. A stunning choice of 64 guest rooms provides an elegant approach to life over the bay and if you're looking to rest and relax within classically styled accommodation, which includes state-of-the-art fixtures and fittings, then prepare to have all of your Californian dreams come true. My room was open, beautiful, comfortable, and with windowed doors to a patio! There were plantings outside for privacy, and black out curtain and sheer curtain options. The attached restaurant, Poggio, was also great! All employees were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly!

NICE hotel and people. I booked on amex travel system, the room was clean but without any view (on an internal stair, no light). Bed was really good, it was a pity the conditioning system: common in US, but really noisy. A good stay, I wish to come back.

I’m a world traveler but I’ve never been in a prettier room with a prettier view. Absolutely impeccable. The softest towels and bedding and best smelling toiletries! I was a little worried that the 80 steps to the mansion rooms would be too much, but I’m 64 and my mom is 87 and we both managed it easily. If you have a bad knee or aren’t ambulatory… Read more

If you have a bad knee or aren’t ambulatory it would be a lot of steps but we loved it-each floor had amazing views and seating areas . Well worth the steps for an Instagram worthy view ! And walking distance to everything! Read less

We didn’t want to drive back over Golden Gate Bridge so we left our car with their Valet parking at 35 dollars a night…the taxi to SF fisherman’s wharf cost 60 dollars….we are finding the USA surprisingly very expensive! ( and we live in London!) When we initially arrived the lovely man called Chuck unloaded our car and took us to our room, and gave such helpful advice. He helped us sort and book a taxi. What a delightful and polite gentleman- a credit to the hotel. All staff were lovely. Our room was a sadly without a view but was large and unique, and had a dual level sitting room and upstairs 4 poster bed, with just the most huge bathroom, and a shared outdoor deck and fire pit area. It was super clean and comfortable. There was a proper huge bath- bliss! We ate in Poggios, the restaurant run by the hotel, and we sat out at the pavement edge as it was a warm evening. The food was expensive, but really good, plentiful and beautifully presented. I would just love to stay here again. Read less
