The hotel

Tenaya Lodge’s setting takes some beating — bordering the Sierra National Forest and set on 75 stunning acres, it’s surrounded by nature. The hotel has plenty of activities, including a choice of trails and a guided walk to a hidden waterfall. Grab your hiking boots, or maybe a mountain bike, and head out to explore. At the end of the day, take a dip in the outdoor pool, get a s’mores kit and sit around the outdoor fire pits, or grab your torch and head out on a night hike. After all that activity, you’re likely to sleep well.

Our experience at this hotel was disappointing. While the main entrance and lobby are up-to-date and tasteful, the rest of the hotel is quite dated an in need of repairs. The best thing about this hotel was the location, being only 8 minutes from the South gates of Yosemite National Park

We stayed at Tenaya Lodge in September for 8 days whilst we visited Yosemite and the local areas. Pros: The hotel is in a lovely location and the surroundings are beautiful. We stayed in a cottage and whilst a little rough around the edges (the carpets were quite worn, and soundproofing between other guests isnt great, we could clearly hear other families) felt like it fitted well with the surroundings. The main building has the deli, shop, spa and restaurants, We ate at Jackelopes which we thought was good food, drank a lot at the bar, had massages at the spa, bought gifts at the shop and had daily coffees from the deli, all of which we really enjoyed. We took advantage of some of the activities on offer such as a torchlit walk which was lovely, we did the day tour of Yosemite which was also amazing, would recommend. All staff in the shops, restaurants and spa were friendly and chatty Cons: Reception staff really felt like they didnt want to be there and getting any form of communication felt like hard work. Our biggest con of all though.....on the second day of our stay I checked my credit card to find nearly $3,000 had been taken out by the hotel with no reason why. On talking to the front desk we discovered they didnt think the room had been paid for by our holiday company (Virgin) we advised and proved we had paid for the holiday in full. We were advised that the money would be refunded but they were unable to advise when as it could take a week to 10 days, really not helpful when the card was meant to be used for spending money. We were advised it was a mistake and wouldnt happen again. 2 days later I was checking my card only to find yet another $1,000 was taken from my account, so now with $4,000 missing from my account we went back to the front desk. We were heading out for the day but were told they would see if they could do something about it (not a sufficient answer for something like this) I contacted our Virgin rep who did help to stop the money coming out but we had spent a number of days stressing about this. The money all finally came back 2 days after returning home so not much use for the holiday at this point. The hotel offered no form of compensation or anything for this mistake. We wernt after anything major but even a "We'll buy you a drink to apologise" would have at least made us feel like they were actually sorry about what had happened. This did really dampen what was otherwise a beautiful holiday in a lovely resort. Read less

Our first time at Tenaya and we loved every minute of it. The people, the food and the atmosphere here are all unbeatable. Everyone was helpful and upbeat. Our room was extremely nice. Visiting Yosemite was a bucket list item and we are so glad we chose Tenaya to stay at. It made the trip.

The most wonderful place to stay. A true diamond in the rough. So much to do, tours of the park, hiking, swimming in both of the pools and much more. The food was outstanding. The employees were the best and deserve many accolades. Thank you Taylor, Amber, Kat, and many more for making our stay wonderful.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel and grounds. Quiet rooms. Tucked into the first near Yosemite. I stayed for a 3-day conference. This hotel really means dog friendly! Delicious food and very comfortable accommodations. The staff was excellent too!
