The location is perfect, all staff we encountered were polite and helpful. Loved how well they’d decorated the reception area for Xmas. The room was spacious, great view and a comfy bed. It was tidy but felt a little dated. Bizarrely, although there were 2 of us in the room we had one cup for the duration and coffee facilities were never topped up after we used them on the first night. So, why wouldn’t we return - urban experience booking ‘tax’ at $20 per night which we were told about when checking out. I will contact customer relations separately about this. Read less

The Bed and pillow's were extremely comfortable. My husband and I Liked them so much we might purchase from Fairmont. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the Holidays. We enjoyed returning from a day of sightseeing and shopping to walk into the Fairmont to such a pretty lobby.

I a very careful when I am looking for lodging to note any resort fees, cleaning fees, etc. I also print a copy of my email receipt (which clearly showed the total included all taxes and fees). I went to the front desk and discussed this and the young man took a copy of my email receipt and kept showing it to someone in the back. I was denied an adjustment. The young man was very pleasant, and I told him I understood it wasn't his fault, but maybe I could contact corporate for the adjustment. I got a shrug. I finally asked, "this is a scam isn't it." He gave me a crooked smile and another shrug. I emailed corporate with my billing concern. Their response, "We get this a lot", and wanted a copy of my email receipt since it's in the fine print (it was not in the fine print with mine!). I told them that is very disheartening, and it it was happening a lot, there was a problem and a consumer shouldn't have to scour fine print to get a price! I encourage others to contact their charge card company and contest the charge. I got a refund on the Urban Experience Fee. Read less

Fairmont hotels are always a favorite of mine, but this one missed the mark. The lobby is decorated beautifully for Christmas, but apparently during the holiday season they turn the Lobby Bar into a “lodge” experience - one that requires reservations and purchase of an experience package (drinks + food). It was SO disappointing because we look forward to having drinks in the lobby before dinner every night, but we were unable to because of this “experience”. What actually happened is the bar sat mostly empty the entire night because there weren’t many reservations, and they directed us to a different bar in the hotel (in the adjoining restaurant - the drinks were bad and we didn’t want to drink a restaurant - we wanted to drink in the lobby of our beautiful hotel!!). Even worse, none of the staff explained the lodge concept, instead they stared at us while we sat in the lobby for 30 minutes waiting for someone to take our order until we finally asked what was going on. There is a big sign that says “The Bar 5pm-12am” which isn’t accurate. The lodge experience didn’t even open until 5:30 and by the time we got back at 8:30 it was completely closed. The rooms were average. Front desk staff sounded annoyed when I called for a late check-out (the staff member who checked us in was incredibly kind and helpful). The valet staff were wonderful. This hotel isn’t 5 star, and it’s the most disappointing Fairmont property I’ve stayed at. WAY better options in Chicago. Read less
