The team running this hotel is special. There’s a genuineness and sincerity that I frankly don’t deserve. The bellmen and front desk staff are attentive and helpful in every way. Nick Soppe and a bellmen with a 1920s vibing vest scrambled to find a perfect Fedora for me upon hearing I felt underdressed on the way to a 1920s themed event.

Just returned from a long weekend in Chicago. I am giving the hotel an average review given COVID, reopening etc. The location is decent, bit much of the hotel was still operating on significant COVID restriction. The bar and restaurant were not open and we were told they have not been open since the COVID shutdown last year. The hotel bars we visited on Wacker were open and busy. The rooms need some work. Black mold was on the tub/shower in our room (photo uploaded). Outside room windows were extremely dirty and appeared not to be cleaned for some time. The state of the hotel was much different from the last time I stayed there, but it was a Kimpton property at the time. Now owned by Sonesta. Overall, the staff is friendly but a refresh is needed for the hotel. Read less

Sent the below email to the hotel's general manager. Followed up and never received any reply. First, the positive: The location was very convenient, close to places we were visiting and the El train from O'Hare. The front desk staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The room was quiet. The negative: Walking up to the hotel after dark we felt very ill at ease. It was dark and at no time during our stay was there any hotel staff outside or inside the ground floor entrance. I have never seen that in any hotel and certainly not one in an urban location. Anyone could walk in at any time, directly access the elevators and wander around the hotel. Service - I understand that there are co-vid related issues But I have had a few hotel stays over the last several months, and have never had any issue with having basic housekeeping service while we are out of the room. To make matters worse, since the bathroom has no ventilation, our towels would not dry overnight and we needed to have new towels brought while we were out. You would think it would go without saying that the old towels would be removed and the new towels put in the bathroom rather than left on a chair as they were with the old towels left where they were on the bathroom floor. Again - re co-vid related matters - I understand that there may be some impact on food and bar service at the hotel, but there should still be some food and beverage service available as has been the case in other recent hotel stays that I have had and was the experience of others we met in Chicago who were staying at other hotels. I do not ever remember being in a hotel that did not provide a pen and a note pad. Maintenance - Outside window in our room was filthy I realize it is an urban hotel, but windows need to reasonably clean. Also, the two part door to bathroom was hard to open and close, squeaked, and one handle completely came off and nearly dropped on my foot. Booking - We were in Chicago for a wedding an opted to stay an extra day. We understand that the 1st 2 nights were at the group rate and that the other night would be at a separate rate. But why do you need to do 2 separate bookings and require us to checkout and check back in and get new key cards for the same room? I appreciate your time in reading and hopefully replying to my message. Read less

I was excited to stay at the Allegro with the appealing lobby and building design relative to the rest of the area, however my experience was quickly soured when Gus, the drunk desk clerk, struggled to check me in to my room for 15 minutes before his co-worker Ben came to save the day. I was disappointed that Ben didn't apologize for his clearly intoxicated co-worker, but he did start taking reservations when he noticed Gus' non-existent motor skills. To make matters worse, the Wi-Fi didn't work for the entirety of my stay. I reached out to the number the Royal Sonesta Allegro provided for techinical support and got no response. When I told the front desk of the issue, they acknowledged it was a known issue and it required a certain manuevering to bypass the error notices and active the lesser internet option. I'm not convinced the solution that he offered would have worked anyway. It seems that once the Royal Sonesta brand bought the Allegro hotel from Kimpton, the quality began to plummet. This location's reviews should be reset to reflect the new ownership. All staff was unmasked as well. Read less

This hotel has quickly declined since moving from a Kimpton Property. When I first checked in I was given the wrong room then I booked. This hotel has quickly declined since moving from a Kimpton Property. When I first checked in I was given the wrong room then I booked. I was then moved to a room that was literally even with the train tracks. I could look inside the train. No airplugs so I barely slept, no moisturizer or water in the room ($4 for a small bottle at front) and even in the gym no water (because of covid?). I have had 23 hotel night stays in past 4 months and all have had water available especially in the gym if not a container, a self dispensing water fountain or complimentary bottles. Safety of gym workout with no water is not ideal. Cups in room for coffee but no coffee available. Carpet was torn and room fairly aged. Overall, I will not stay here again and encourage others if you choose to ask for room not on track side and if they don't have leave and bring water but there are many other properties that provide a better service I say look elsewhere. On a good note - my internet worked well. No restaurants open yet and no services which has been inconsistent at other properties so not unique. Read less
