Check your charge for VALET, our reservation says $32 per night, and we were charged $34 per night. When we brought it to the staffs attention at check out, we were told, oh we changed it. Planned a romantic weekend with my wife. Arrived Friday night, confirmed our reservation with the front staff. Checked into room 524, and was "hit in the face" with the smell of mold/mildew. After trying to convince ourselves it was due to the age of the building...we could not stand it any longer. Went to the front desk, to express our concerns (see other reviews regarding the same issues) and the possibility of switching rooms, we were offered a "spray". After some discussion that this was not a solution...we were offered another room. I would recommend asking for a room with hard floors vs carpet, this seemed to solve the issue. Upon checkout, the front desk staff provided us a bill that included Valet and a destination fee, even though we confirmed Friday all was paid for excluding valet. We tried to show the stuff our reservation, she did even look at it. We were informed that she did not do it, that she could not fix it, and I would have to call back tomorrow. When i asked to speak to a manager on duty, I was advised that she and housekeeping were the only staff members working. When I asked her to call a member of management staff, I was informed that she did not have their number. Seeing this was going nowhere, and after several attempts by this staff member walking in the back to speak with "housekeeping" I was given a card with the GMs information on it. Shortly after this I was asked to step aside she needed to help other guest..never a thank you, i'm sorry, nothing...some much for the Savannah Hospitality you hear about! Spoke with Glenn Anderson the GM the following Monday to express my concerns...his response to the smell, we have been getting that a lot lately. In regards to being told no manger was on duty, he said, in some many words I was lied to, there is ALWAYS a manager working 7 days a week. No worries though, he attempted to right the wrong and invited us back in October to personally see the $4 Million in renovations that are doing that will be complete then....of course he offered us a complimentary night...right....nope. Just admitted all that was wrong, and told me have a good day! We were issued a refund for the over payment on VALET and being charged twice for the destination fee. Read less

The hotel was beautiful and centrally located so walking everywhere was easy. The staff was courteous and helpful, particularly Cedric Woodson (parking valet). The only negative of our visit was the main elevator did not work so for old, arthritic knees, the stairs were a challenge.

I would have to say that with this hotel being ideally located for both River and Bay Streets that it is the best place to stay. Historically, excellent but like ANY hotel in Savannah, there are its drawbacks. We've stayed here for many years and do hope to continue in the future. Read less
