My husband and I stayed at Hotel Bardo for our anniversary. Our stay was outstanding! The service was unparalleled. Specifically, Franklin, the hotel driver, was incredibly helpful and a joy to get to know. Desk staff was extremely helpful as was the waitstaff and pool attendants. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

We had a girls weekend at Hotel Bardo and it was such a success! Everything was so aesthetically pleasing and the staff was super nice! I booked this hotel through Amex fine hotels and resorts and have always had fantastic stays when booked through them. Unfortunately, that’s not been the case here at Hotel Bardo. Let it be known, I’ve NEVER written a poor review, even if the experience hasn’t been great but for this being a fine hotel and resort and it not being cheap I want to urge others to stay elsewhere when booking through Amex. When we arrived our room wasn’t ready, one of the perks of fine hotels and resorts is an early check in and room upgrade, neither of which we received. No problem, understand this isn’t guaranteed. But when I inquired about it with the woman at the front desk it was not met with a pleasant attitude. When we did receive our room keys we weren’t given any of the details of our fine hotel and resort stay like in other hotels. I had no idea what the breakfast rules were as well as the hotel credit we would be receiving. I wound up asking the front desk employee later because the same woman wasn’t helpful. For dinner we hoped to take advantage of the house car to take us to river street. I booked through the front desk for 7:10. After waiting, inquiring 2 times, and sitting outside for over 40 minutes we wound up booking an Uber. I never heard from the driver and that was it. When we got back from River Street there was a concert going on across the street (our room faces it). It was INCREDIBLY loud. I called the front desk to ask when it would be ending, since it was 10pm at this point. She informed me she wasn’t sure the ending time and would call me back. 20 minutes later she called to let me know it wouldn’t end until 11pm. Needless to say there was zero sleeping until that ended. For breakfast, which $60 is covered from Amex, I ordered 2 entrees and specifically said we didn’t want bottled water but would love 2 glasses to use at the water station. We were brought 2 $9 bottled waters, when I inquired about them I was told I ordered them and I specifically explained I asked for glasses. On top of that there was a 25% gratuity charged. I’m happy to tip, I always tip well, but to be charged 25% when the order isn’t even correct is crazy. I’m currently sitting in our room waiting for my revised check to be delivered, which at this point I doubt I’ll ever see. I’m a single mom that brought my kids to Savannah for my 40th birthday and this was truly supposed to be a special treat for all of us and instead it’s been met with incredibly poor customer service and a sub par experience. I highly recommend the Thompson in Savannah, I wish we would’ve stayed there again. Read less

I was looking forward to my last minute, long weekend away, treating myself to what I had hoped would be a relaxing stay with excellent service. Sadly it was anything but that. I arrived on Sat, 9/31 around 2 pm. My room wasn't ready, which was totally fine as check in was at 4 so I changed and went to the pool. It was insanely packed with a ton of kids. The water looked cloudy and uninviting due to the number of people there. I then could not get service either at a table in the bar area or at a lounge despite seeing at least a half a dozen servers around and trying to waive them down. After waiting about 10 minutes, I finally went up to the bar and placed an order. But this was only after someone who came in after me was able to place and receive drinks. I returned to my lounge and a woman and her two kids sat next to me. Within 90 seconds or less, they had menus, waters, and an order placed. I was finally able to flag a server down and requested a menu, which she did bring over. However, she never returned to take a drink or food order. So I had to return to the bar to place an order. When I was brought my food, they gave me no flatware or napkins. I was just dumbfounded at the lack of service. I finally called the front desk around 4:20 as I hadn't received a call letting me know my room was ready and it was. So I went and fully checked in; however, the employee did not tell me about any of the amenities—nothing about cofee/pastries in the lobby bar in the morning, nothing about the complimentary car service for the area, nothing. When I asked about the spa, she said, "Well, did you see someone down there?" No offer to call, no "go see xyz, they should be able to take care of you. I'll call and let them know you're coming." Nothing. I did return to the pool on Sunday evening around 6, in the hopes of some quiet and sunshine. I met/chatted with a very nice couple from Norway. However, when the server brought them a round of drinks, she never asked me if I wanted anything. I felt like I had a sign over my head that said, "No matter what, IGNORE ME!" My room was a junior suite and on the first floor, #101. If you value sleeping past 6:30 am, do NOT stay in this room. It is right on the other side of the valet stand and across the hall from some sort of work/staff room. I was woken up each morning with staff talking outside my room at 6:30 am and 7 am both mornings. Not to mention the constant slamming of doors. When I checked out, I was sure the person would ask me how my stay was. That is pretty standard at every hotel I've ever stayed at. Not here! Nothing. Nada. Again, I couldn't believe it. I feel like I've gotten better service at a $125/a night hotel compared to this one, which was $500/night. The ONLY redeeming factor of this hotel was Omar, Victoria, and Nikki in the spa. (Hence two stars instead of one.) Omar was filling in for the weekend down there, but he and Victoria bent over backwards to fit me in for a massage. My therapist was Nikki and she and Omar went above and beyond to take care of me. This was the only place on the entire property where I felt the service matched the cost. I am planning a return trip to Savannah to treat my mom for a nice weekend and I will be looking into the Perry Lane which I hear (from friends who just stayed there) has amazing customer service. I feel like I chose the wrong place this past visit. What a waste of $1,000+. Read less
