With its strong trip advisor reviews and it’s pricing as one of the most expensive hotels is Savannah, we had high hopes for the Mansion at Forsyth Park. The location on the park is nice if not a bit out of the way. When we arrived our first room stunk of what can only be characterized as garbage. So we asked to move rooms and they quickly offered us another room which was tiny and dark. Tiny, meaning it’s probably the smallest “luxury” hotel room I have ever had. The decor at the hotel is funky with interesting and eclectic artwork adorning the walls and shabby chic lighting throughout the halls and rooms. But that can’t mask the fact that the whole hotel is just a bit dumpy. It’s cramped, dark and slightly run down. It was once we settled into the new room that we found the note apologizing for the fact that they currently had no water at the hotel. Yes no water. Fortunately that issue had been resolved and at least we did have water. We had initially booked Perry Lane but thought with the positive reviews, why pay the extra 200 plus dollars. Now I know why. We loved the fact that the walk was about 10 minutes to get to coffee-restaurants. The walk was the best part--squares, history-amazing homes--TREES!!! We were advised that this hotel was too far away from the action--but it most definitely was not. We spent time in the historic river district and observed the hotels. We would most definitely stay here again. We embraced the humidity and sprinkles on our walks--so nice! We paid for valet parking --$39 a night but parking on the streets was certainly doable--one draw back was the nightly destination fee $33.90 a night--I did not see this fee when making my reservation and feel that maybe it is a bit of a sneaky move--stayed three nights so $100 more than expected.
