Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach

Big Island, Hawaii

The hotel

Located on the grounds where Hawaii’s most famous king once ruled, this is a stunning hotel, contemporary in feel with top notch amenities. Overlooking one of the best snorkelling bays in Hawaii, it’s a must for water sports fans as well as those who simply enjoy a beautiful beach to lie on. Shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance but there’s plenty to keep you entertained on-site. During high season, the Island Breeze Lu’au is one of the Big Island’s most popular events. As well as a sumptuous Hawaiian buffet to feast on, with dishes cooked in a traditional underground oven, dramatic Hawaiian and Polynesian entertainment ensures an unforgettable evening for all. Before the feasting and dancing even begins, outrigger canoes carrying the royal court glide past the ancient Hawaiian temple on the seaward border of the hotel, an incredible spectacle you’ll want to capture on camera! Honu’s Restaurant is also a treat, overlooking the beachfront and complete with firepits so you can linger long after the sun has set. For more casual fare, Billfish Bar serves dishes such as calamari ‘fritte’ and seafood cobb salad as well as signature cocktails. To work off all that delicious food, there’s a recently opened tennis centre with two championship hard courts as well as hiking and biking through glorious state parks.

We had a great time at the courtyard Marriott king Kamehameha Kona beach hotel. Great location and great service from the wonderful lady who checked us in and Ian at the poolside bar. We started our 7 day vacation with a 5 day stay at Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, where we just enjoyed the beach all day and spent the last 2 days at the Courtyard. During this last 2 days all we did is tour the volcano and did a snorkeling tour to Capt. Cook monument. We now the Courtyard does not really have a good beach but this property is very nice in terms of proximity to restaurants and shops. We do touring in the morning and did a lot of walking and shopping in the afternoon and lots of dinner options walking distance at night. We did not use the beach and stayed an hour or so in the small pool. I gave this property 4 stars because of (1) the staff, compare to the Westin, the staff here at the Courtyard are amazingly!!!!!! very nice, very friendly, over all great service! (2) location, very close to shops and great restaurants (3) the property is just ok, we we're upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite, it's big to fit our family of 4 with 2 bathroom. If you're looking to stay downtown Kona close to restaurants, shops for for touring coffee farms, this is a place for you! Read less

We decided on Hawaii for our 8th wedding anniversary. With the recommendations from several friends we came to King Kam Kona Beach Hotel. We had the best time. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The hotel has a very nice restaurant with delicious food. Billfish bar located poolside was a nice amenity. Pamela and Karen at Billfish were amazing hosts. They provided many great recommendations for island adventures. We also attended island breeze luau. The island breeze staff was so great explaining the culture and heritage of not only the Hawaiian islands but all the pacific islands. May I recommend kona coffee ice cream and a lava flow beverage from billfish. It is delicious and refreshing. The hotel has many great stores on property if you need or forgot to pack anything and the prices are very reasonable. The hotel also plays home to Hawaiian shave ice shop. If you've never had shaved ice, you need to try it. It is not like a snow cone. It is like eating a cloud with delicious flavors. I enjoyed a Hawaiian root beer float. It was best float ever. We will definitely return to King Kam Kona Beach Hotel. Thanks first many memories and great times. Read less

But the room was not what we expected: the carpet was dirty/soiled, the lamp shades were damaged and most importantly, there was a strong odor of water damaged and or mildew. It was so late, and we were so tired that we did not complain. It was for one night. I did let the hotel know when we left. Hopefully that is not their usual room quality. Read less
