The hotel
Located on the grounds where Hawaii’s most famous king once ruled, this is a stunning hotel, contemporary in feel with top notch amenities. Overlooking one of the best snorkelling bays in Hawaii, it’s a must for water sports fans as well as those who simply enjoy a beautiful beach to lie on. Shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance but there’s plenty to keep you entertained on-site. During high season, the Island Breeze Lu’au is one of the Big Island’s most popular events. As well as a sumptuous Hawaiian buffet to feast on, with dishes cooked in a traditional underground oven, dramatic Hawaiian and Polynesian entertainment ensures an unforgettable evening for all. Before the feasting and dancing even begins, outrigger canoes carrying the royal court glide past the ancient Hawaiian temple on the seaward border of the hotel, an incredible spectacle you’ll want to capture on camera! Honu’s Restaurant is also a treat, overlooking the beachfront and complete with firepits so you can linger long after the sun has set. For more casual fare, Billfish Bar serves dishes such as calamari ‘fritte’ and seafood cobb salad as well as signature cocktails. To work off all that delicious food, there’s a recently opened tennis centre with two championship hard courts as well as hiking and biking through glorious state parks.

Very expensive for what the hotel offers. Room service every other day. Poor cleaning in the rooms and bathrooms. Old rooms with no updates. The minibar had food from previous guests. Not even the glasses were cleaned.
The only positive point is the location.

I want to make my review about a particular employee: Tisha N. at the front desk. She made our stay at the King Kam one we will always remember. Besides going out of her way to get us into a room on a higher floor, she always remembered us and had a smile on her face & in her voice! She was professional as well as personable. What a perfect…

I want to make my review about a particular employee: Tisha N. at the front desk. She made our stay at the King Kam one we will always remember. Besides going out of her way to get us into a room on a higher floor, she always remembered us and had a smile on her face & in her voice! She was professional as well as personable. What a perfect combo!! I've never left a review here before, so I don't know how much I should say, but I hope the "powers that be" at the hotel know what a valuable asset she is! Mahalo, Tisha!

over-all nice hotel but I didn't get what I was expecting...

The staff is very friendly and the grounds are well kept. When we first went to the room, I checked the view for which I paid extra for an oceanfront room. The view was of the black roof top, the hut for rentals and if I looked hard, the ocean on either side. Then I checked the room. The bed was not made properly so you could see the mattress…

The staff is very friendly and the grounds are well kept. When we first went to the room, I checked the view for which I paid extra for an oceanfront room. The view was of the black roof top, the hut for rentals and if I looked hard, the ocean on either side. Then I checked the room. The bed was not made properly so you could see the mattress which had other-people's hair on it. The top blanket had a big yellow stain on it. The bathroom mirror and magnifying mirror, had water splatter on it so it didn't give me confidence this room was very clean. So, within the first half hour of arriving on vacation, I was already bummed. I let the staff know and while we were at the luau, they changed the sheets but didn't do anything to the bathroom. The luau was in a nice area, had tasty food and good choices but it was a little pricy for what you got. The beach area is a nice, protected cove so it felt safe for swimming. There's a hotel-guests-only partitioned off space in the sand with umbrellas and lounge chairs but the rest of the beach/cove was public. The breakfast buffet was really good and worth it if you can include it in your nightly room fee. The Sunday brunch was also included but the other 2 people we were with paid out of pocket and it is not worth that much for a hotel breakfast buffet.

Great location and friendly hospitality

The hotel location was ideal: walking distance to numerous restaurants and small shops in town, sandy public beach, new pool and hot tub with bar/restaurant, and shaved ice restaurant, ABC store, and cafe on site. This is a family-friendly property, lots of kids playing in the pool and on the beach. The room/bathroom were updated and clean. All…

If you want a great view, get a room in the west wing on the 5-6th floors facing the ocean.

Weird Hotel, a bit of a Time Warp

This is a weird hotel, wasn't terrible but definitely lacking. It feels like it must have been something else awhile ago and was likely a mid-range hotel built in the 1970s. This is a weird hotel, wasn't terrible but definitely lacking. It feels like it must have been something else awhile ago and was likely a mid-range hotel built in the 1970s. Not much charm and our Marriott status got us a room that overlooked a black roof. Oddly enough, most rooms do not look out over the ocean even though it is basically on the beach. We were told they could move us after the first day but they never followed up. The beach is very small and like most (or all) Hawaii beaches, is open to the public and gets very crowded. The chairs available from the hotel run out pretty fast it seems. Pool was decent but too small for the size of the hotel and again, chairs fill up fast. Food was terrible -- inedible in fact -- and service at the pool was not particularly friendly. Again, just a weird place and the food in this area, which seems only for tourists, was not good though expensive. Foster's Kitchen was by far our best meal. Would definitely look for alternatives if we were in the area again.
