Stayed 2 nights at Plantation Hale with friends. We enjoyed our stay before moving to the Poipu area. PH is conveniently located for exploring the island. It’s near restaurants and walkable to Coconut Marketplace which has some shops and restaurants though there are some empty store fronts. Our unit had 2 queen beds and a sleeper sofa which were comfortable. There was a kitchen and it was nice to have a full frig. We didn’t cook in. The appliances could certainly use updating. One issue was the size of the coffee maker. It was just a small 2 cup maker which we found inconvenient as we had to make more than one pot in the mornings. There should be a full coffee maker. The pool areas were very nice and clean. We used the pool one afternoon and were the only ones there. We enjoyed that. For the price, this is a good place to stay. Just don’t expect high end furnishings. It’s certainly acceptable if you’re on a budget. Read less

We have stayed at the Plantation Hale at least 10 times since the late 1980's. It is a great central location on the island and close to all the main amenities. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately in the past few years we have noticed that the suite we stayed in is really showing a lack of maintenance. Since we don't spend a lot of time inside, we have overlooked the situation because of the location and budget price. This year though, the price jumped considerably, so we started to question the quality for value. At this time we will probably return again next year, but hope that the management and owners will take a good look at improving their maintenance program. It has been our holiday home for so long and we hope we don't have to start looking elsewhere. We are still giving it a "4" because of the location, staff and facility amenities. Read less

This complex set in spacious grounds is situated on the main road around the Island and easy to find. About a 10 minute drive from the airport. The rooms have a lounge with dining area, fully equipped kitchen, separate bedroom and good sized balcony. There are two tvs and good storage space for clothes. This is meant for self catering with no restaurant on site but there are two hotels within a short walk which have restaurants. There is also a small shopping area adjacent with a large ABC store selling all types of hot and cold foods and wines for takeaway. The accommodation is about 200 yards from the beach across an open space. This has been boarded up recently but here is still public right of way. There re two floors and you need a room on the upper floor now for ocean views. There are 3 attractive swimming pools clean with hot tubs and plenty pool beds / chairs / tables. There is ample car parking, and all activities can be arrange at the front desk. This is not a new property so don't expect 5 star standards at this price but most people will be happy with the accommodation. A rental car is recommended. Read less

I stayed here for a night between changing accommodations in two different areas of the island, and my suite was sufficient for a night's stay and a good value based on what I paid. I would not have enjoyed a longer stay here however. Clearly, this place appeals to people on a budget who want a Kauai vacation without paying Princeville prices - which is fine, but as always, you get what you pay for (or in this case, you don't get what you haven't paid for). The unit I was in still had many of its original 1970s era appliances and touches, although some things (drapes, couch) has been updated in pleasant island-inspired tones. One thing I found odd was that there was a nice modern updated comforter on the bed, but they had left an atrocious ugly bedskirt that didn't match in any way. I chose this place mainly because I needed a kitchen to cook my own food in, and it was passable. Not very well stocked but some basic cookware was included. The stove was very old but mostly worked (one burner didn't sit right). It would be helpful if they gave you a sponge for dishwashing instead of a washcloth. The room was generally pretty clean, but could have used a good scrub down of door jambs, baseboards, light switches etc - all of which seemed to have some years worth of accumulated dust and gunk, some very obvious. The rooms that face west have a of traffic noise from the highway. If you're sensitive to noise when you sleep, you might want to ask for a room facing East (there's a much smaller road on that side and I imagine the sounds would be far more bearable). I didn't have a chance to use the pool but it looked incredibly clean with plenty of deck chairs. Read less
