This was our first time back in a decade, and the Plantation Hale Suites were still a great choice for our family. Location in Kapa'a is excellent for exploring the island--about halfway between each end (Waimea Canyon and Kalalau/Hanalei). The Coconut Marketplace is within a 5-min walk if you want to grab a bite or some shave ice or if you just want to walk around some shops. The property is set back from the beach, but very close. The beach isn't swimmable, but good for sand play, and there's a nice little boardwalk fronting the other resorts that allows you to walk along the beach comfortably. The nearby resorts are fancier and more like "hotels," but for the price savings, we still love PHS. The pools/hot tubs were easy to access and not crowded. Parking was easy. The 1-bedroom with a full kitchen was PERFECT for our needs and allowed us to save lots of money by preparing meals for ourselves. (Costco is about 20 min away and Safeway is a short 5-minute drive) The room was clean and recently updated. If you are a low-key family looking for comfortable accommodations without the frills, this is a great option. Read less

This resort is an older resort, but our accommodation was adequate for our needs. Beach access across the road. The units are mostly equipped with one air conditioner unit in the condo. We were switched to one with the air in the bedroom, worked better for us. Staff is wonderful. Walking distance to stores and a few places to grab food.

It is very convenient with the Coconut Marketplace with shops and restaurants a 5 minute walk away and Safeway grocery about 10-15 walk. The rooms are comfortable and clean, but nothing fancy and the staff is accommodating. It take about 5 minutes to walk to the beach in front which I think is best just to sit and watch the ways. It looked like too many rocks in the water to go out in the waves. There are much nicer beaches 10-15 minutes away by car. You can drive to the south or north shore in about 30 minutes depending on traffic. We also hiked trails that were nearby. I think it is a great value unless you are looking for a 4 or 5 star resort. Significantly over priced for whay you get. The most basic room with a cracked bathtub and shower and a nearly broken sofabed. We stayed for 2 nights and had a decent time. The pool was not busy and we could enjoy the time there. There was not enough deck space to sit together for a meal.
