Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa

Honolulu, Oahu

Virgin rating

The hotel

Take in the rich heritage and stately décor of ‘The First Lady of Waikiki’. Something of a legendary resort, it cleverly combines turn-of the-century Victorian elegance with modern luxuries. Relax by the pool area, under the shade of the historic banyan tree, or on the resorts private section of beach. Fancy a bit of pampering? Treat yourself to an amazing experience at the Moanalani Spa, the only oceanfront Spa in Waikiki, where the menu features relaxing treatments inspired by traditional Hawaiian healing techniques. Dining is a treat here — from the oceanfront setting of Beachhouse at the Moana to the delightful island tradition of afternoon tea at the Veranda at the Beachhouse. For a pre-dinner glass of wine or artisan beer, head to Vintage 1901 overlooking the banyan tree, or enjoy a tropical drink with live entertainment at The Beach Bar.

My mother and I went to the Afternoon Tea at The Veranda. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish. We cannot say enough good things about the view, food, or tea. The real highlight was our server Daniel. He was very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. We will definitely be back!

The staff at this magnificent property create unforgettable memories filled with genuine Aloha spirit that other hotels have long forgotten or don't bother to carry on. Experience heartfelt caring & a desire that each guest surpass whatever their vacation expectations were before stepping onto the Moana Surfrider property. It begins at 1st glance of this majestic, historical structure & gets better with each staff person you meet as you exit your vehicle & are warmly greeted by Larson, Geoffrey, Al or Jan in the valet/arrivals port. Your 1st impression of them & of what they represent at this hotel will be stunning. Not only do they open your door & take care of your luggage but their presence immediately assures you that you've come to the right place for spending your time away from your day to day schedule. Once at the front desk, Zach & his exceptional staff are outstanding at making you forget about your long flight from the mainland & getting you to focus on the main reason for being in Waikiki....relaxation! As you explore the beach bar, cafe & restaurants you'll meet more staff that are the reason why couples & families have returned year after year for decades. Your trip wouldn't be complete however if you didn't take time to meet Nancy at the Beach Side Cafe. She is amazing & her sincerity & care for each guest is overwhelmingly polite. If she's on break, you're in good hands with Sheri whose smile is as bright as a rainbow. Pool side, servers like Kayla, Marcus, Hays, Chantel, Darcel, Maurice & Dina impress you with their service & pride. While Taylor is constantly on the move, greeting everyone she can with unforgettable grace & energy. Their bartenders, Marney, Henry & Peter make the best Mai-Tai on the island, our favorite is the "44", original recipe. The Banyan bar staff of Brian, Jared, Wade & Kurt see to it that every night of your stay ends with the prefect amount of good times & fun. Both bars are a "must" whether your a registered guest or a visitor. The pool & beach staff handle guests whose primary purpose for coming to Hawaii is "water & sunshine." These are among the most dedicated workers in the hotel. Gloria & her team, Hulali, Issac, Kaia, Jim, Kiara, Lee, Steve & Diane work relentlessly to make certain that each guest has what they need. Although the busiest spot in the entire hotel, the pool staff steps up to the plate every day to make sure that guests get the most of their Moana experience by staying on top of their needs & requests. Finally, a HUGE MAHALO to Housekeeping, the toughest job of all! Estella, Merlita & Rosalino are simply the best & they continually excel in taking pride in their work & performance. Mission accomplished...standing ovation! This success couldn't possibly take place without the extraordinary leadership of management & personnel by department heads & executives alike. Our sincerest gratitude to Chad, Clay, Taylor, Ryan Loo, Eugene, Kala, Kau, Janelle, Jodi, Jackie, Kari, Kevin & last but not least, Mr. Foti. Collectively, you have infused this property with creativity & new energy that is absolutely contagious. In our opinion, this is the best team in the entire Hawaiian Hospitality business & we are grateful to each one of you. We encourage anyone who wants to discover what Hawaiian hospitality used to be like 30 years ago to spend some time as a guest in this hotel & experience the magic of the Moana for themselves...Rich, Luci & Alex Read less

We moved to the Moana Surfrider because we wanted direct beach access during our 3 days in Waikiki. We checked in around 8am and miraculously our room was available! Truly a blessing. We had a Diamond Head / Waikiki Beach view deluxe room and it was perfect. Located on the 20th floor, we had the best views from our lanai throughout the day. Our rooms were cleaned daily and complimentary water bottles refilled daily. The bathroom even had a Japanese toilet with bidet option. Everyone we encountered here was absolutely amazing - friendly and truly embodying the aloha spirit. Beach chairs and umbrellas are $100 for a pair to rent. If you’re Gold or higher Bonvoy status, then you can rent 2 Tommy Bahama beach chairs as well and that worked out very well for us. You can borrow beach/pool towels from them to use on the beach or at the pool. Valet parking is $55 and self-parking is $45 at the lot attached to the Sheraton Princess across the street We self-parked for two days and it’s an easy process. You just get a parking pass from the hotel in advance and show it to the parking attendant when you leave. When we checked out, we were really concerned about fitting all of our luggage into the car. The bell services attendant was so so helpful and truly Tetris-ed our luggage and we were able to fit all 2 big bags, 3 small roller bags, 2 backpacks, and 3 duffel bags. Big kudos to him and we were so thankful. Read less
