Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

Honolulu, Oahu

The hotel

Enjoy an aloha-style welcome at the award-winning Outrigger Reef. You can take in the stunning ocean views, relax among the Polynesian canoe art and soak up the sun by the pool. In need of some peace and pampering? Look no further than the elegant Spa — we recommend the traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage. But if you like to be more active, why not set sail in a catamaran (keep your eyes peeled for spinner and bottlenose dolphins) or enjoy a paddle in the surf in an authentic outrigger canoe. If you prefer dry land, amble along the Waikiki Beach Walk promenade, stopping at a café on route, or take a hike to Point Leahi at the summit of Diamond Head. Back at the hotel, you can grill-your-own hand-carved steaks and fresh fish by the beach or dine poolside at Kani Ka Pila Grille, as you watch the live evening entertainment.

Big congrats on that. We spent 7 days here and enjoyed the hotel to its fullest. The location is superb as it’s just out of the crazy ones of Waikiki main beach but you can still walk to the beach within minutes. We actually spent 2 full days at the hotels own beach as it’s quiet and also had 3 massive sea turtles swimming around. The Voyager Club Lounge UA worth the upgrade. It offers great breakfast and amazing canapés at night time. You sit there with the best views of the sunset and beach each night. The pool is good and offers a great happy hour in the afternoon for MaiTai’s and other cocktails. Will be back for sure. Read less

We have been here a number of times and continue to go back. Even though we are elite members of Marriott, we continue to come back here because of the outstanding service, people and property. Everyone from the minute we arrive to the time we leave, they are so helpful and remember our names! A number of the staff have been here for 20+ years which really speaks to the hotel and how they are treated. I really appreciate the fact that each year (multiple times a year) we go, we continue to see the same people. We feel like we are “coming home” because of the staff. Many thanks to everyone, we so appreciate your hospitality!! Read less

This hotel was probably amazing in the 70's, but in 2019 it's just looking tired. However, I feel the staff is doing the best they can with what they have. The location is great. I think next time I will just pay a little more for something nicer. If I'm going to spend $300 a night on a hotel room I would hope it would be nicer than the equivalent of the Red Lion. Read less

Stayed here for 5 nights by myself finishing off 4 weeks in Hawaii. I think it seems to be more of an adult resort as I saw a lot of older people and couples. Location is good, close to restaurants and just a block back from the Main Street. They provide a trolley which you can use by showing your room card which stops at Al Moana Centre, the zoo and Diamond Head among other places. Check in was okay. There is no lei provided and I didn’t feel overly welcomed but the important things were covered. Room was clean and comfortable with water replenished every day which you pay for in the daily resort fee. I was called at 4.30am one morning by another guest asking if the water was free?! Music plays until 9/10pm each night especially if you have a room overlooking the pool and lobby areas. There is a Starbucks located in the lobby area and a great Martin & McArthur store also worth a visit. Bell men and valets were very friendly and helpful. I would come back for a short stay. We stayed her as a family of 3 for 10 days and could not have chosen a better hotel or location. The Aloha welcome on arrival was much appreciated after a very long flight from the UK the luggage guys were really helpful too, and didn't hang around for their tip which was refreshing. The room was a part ocean view on the 4th floor and I couldn't believe how quite the rooms were, it was very rare we heard any noise from elsewhere. The pillows and beds were super comfy and the room kept clean and fridge topped with bottled water. We ate at the bar for lunch sometimes and at the beach restaurant both were really lovely food and service. The activities on offer were a lovely touch to find out more about the Hawaiian culture, a special mention to Sherwin who just had the Aloha spirit radiating from him. When I read the reviews on here a few mention the tired looking lobby and time share - so I came prepared with my big no thanks, and to be disappointed at check in.... I'm not sure which lobby they related to because there was nothing tired about here! Neither were we once asked about time share - although I did see people being shown round. Overall this hotel has a perfect relaxed atmosphere, fabulous staff, lovely food, and is based in a great location on the quieter end of Waikiki beach. I'm sure there are more up market hotels but I'm not sure they could ever have the same feel. If you are thinking of booking this hotel you will not be disappointed, one day we hope to return.
