Excalibur

The Strip, Las Vegas

The hotel

This good value on-strip casino hotel boasts an enormous pool area and is home to the must-see Tournament of Kings dinner show, complete with knights on horseback, jousting, pyrotechnics and Merlin himself. Las Vegas’s take on old England, the Excalibur would surprise the Knights of the Round Table. But that’s where it leaves England behind and takes on the world. There’s the all-American casino (with 100,000 sq ft of gaming), games arcade, and branch of Johnny Rockets’ famous hamburger chain. There’s Italy, Mexico and Asia (and a bit more America) in its casual restaurants and food court. And there’s Australia in its ‘Thunder from Down Under’ adult show and Australian Bee Gees tribute concert.

The rooms were clean, if a bit worn/dated. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. Walking through a dingy, smoky casino every time I needed to come in/out/get a cup of coffee: not so much so. Location is ok for walking. Proximity to the nicer Mandalay Bay and Luxor is good. I got shut out of self-parking on a busy Saturday night — cost me for the valet in order to park where I was staying. However, that may have had a silver lining. The valet who brought me my car the next morning was a charming gentleman with all sorts of tips for our road trip out the Hoover/Lake Mead. Read less

Out of the 3 different hotels we've stayed at, all on the main strip, Excalibur is my absolute favorite. The rooms are clean and comfortable and it is centrally located. I love that we were able to see shows, game, see exhibits, all within the hotel. And, the service has always been top notch.

In Vegas for 5 nights for a convention at Mandalay Bay. So for location, it was good as it had the free Tram to and from the convention. However, 1st room we had was on 2nd floor overlooking a busy sidewalk and a trash dumpster. Not very clean - obviously not vacuumed, very dusty, peeling wallpaper. We were able to get moved after the 2nd night up to 26th floor. Somewhat cleaner, but smaller, tighter room. Rooms are not very sound proof. The staff were very friendly when we asked for anything, and helpful with getting the room changed, but packing and moving rooms was a bit of a pain as they would not move our bags for us. So we had to return to the hotel half way through our day and get relocated. Probably the most disappointing thing about the hotel was to get in and out you had to walk through the casino - which they still allow people to smoke in. In fact, we noticed that about all the hotels we ventured into to have a look. You would think in this day and age, and all the information out there about smoke, they would have changed that by now. Between cigarettes and marijuana, you can't even walk down the street without it being blown in your face constantly. And inside, it's even worse because it just hangs in the air and gets in your clothes and hair. I guess I come from a cleaner city where there are designated areas and people who want to live healthier don't have to breath it in. I would have thought Vegas would be catching up by now. At the very least the Excalibur (and other hotels) could provide a way to get in and out of the hotel without having to walk through it and breathe it in all the time. If they have a way, I certainly couldn't find it. Read less

Booked 2 rooms, the reception asked for additional $20 to be on the same floor. I opted not to take up the offer thinking they would at least put us in the same tower. No they put us in different towers with total walking distance 500m between, and or room had a lovely view of a wall, really?? I guess the ploy is to make you walk through the casino to entice you to gamble. The rooms and complex is very tired, no coffee making facilities, refrigerator or mini bar, no quiet areas, all designed to make you come down to the casino area. Value for money no, Saturday night a ripoff. On the positive side, comfortable bed, clean room and good location on south end of the strip. Can’t recommend this as a good hotel stay. Read less

The hotel was close to the convention center monorail, which is across the street at the MGM. The food court provided a selection of various restarants at reasonable prices. I especially liked the Breakfast and Burgers place.
