MGM Grand Hotel & Casino

The Strip, Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

In a city of fabulous excess where big is always beautiful, the 5,000-room MGM Grand takes the XXL biscuit. The world’s second largest hotel features a 6.5-acre Grand Pool Complex containing four swimming pools, three whirlpools, Vegas’ longest lazy river, and waterfalls. The Wet Republic Ultra Pool holds seasonal pool parties too. And that’s just for starters, as the MGM Grand hosts huge sporting events, top shows such as Ka by Cirque du Soleil, Virtual Reality and famous performers such as David Copperfield. On top of that, Hakkasan regularly hosts DJs Steve Aoki and Lil Jon. Peckish after all that? Then take your pick from a mouth-watering range of restaurants that satisfy pretty much any mood and taste you can imagine.

My family stayed there for two nights, and found the stay to miss on many levels. The resort is dated and it does show. We paid for an upgraded room and in that room there was mold on ceiling of the bathroom and bedroom. When paying the amount we did for an “upgraded “ room there is an expectation. Also we needed extra blankets and after 3 phone calls to house keeping with no answer we called the front desk and were on hold for close to 20 mins until someone answered. This was not during a peak time of people checking in or out. Tipping, I understand that tipping goes hand in hand with conventional service but even the fast food places have it as a prompt on the credit card. Obviously it is your choice to go to 0 but just was surprised to see that. Pricing of items is outrageous, a candy car (normal size) could cost you over $10. Positive note the kids did like the pools and that did keep them busy for a while. With that being said there is a price to pay to stay at a place that has the amenities it does, just be aware. As for mold and time on hold it is unacceptable. Would not stay here again. Read less

Terrible experience in the two bedrooms suite 241 on 26th floor. Smelling weed in the lobby and in the suite which is on a non smoking floor. The lady at the front desk should learn that her job is to give a first good feeling. Getting the suite 1 hour after the time provided when they asked me to is not so bad. The lady at the front desk should learn that her job is to give a first good feeling. Getting the suite 1 hour after the time provided when they asked me to is not so bad. Entering a suite where you can hear the music from the Ground floor swimming pools as if the DJ was mixing in your bedroom is not what you expect. Not even getting a free bottle of water in $ 1 200 suite shows the level of special attention they give for their clients. Last but not least is the not working master bedroom's curtains letting you admire the 6 am sunrise as the Sun is right in front of the bed axis... The only good expérience was Morimoto diner... But be prepared to sell a kidney to pay the bill. Read less

Other hotels are more central on the strip, MGM is at the end. We did visit the Grand Canyon and did a Dune Buggy tour which I would HIGHLY recommend both. We also saw the Shin Lim Magic Show at the Mirage. It was awesome and reasonably priced. Overall, we had a great trip. The hotel had lots of stuff to do and see I would stay again if I could find it for a good price / on sale. Other then that were might be other places where you could get a bit more. Read less

We booked a three night stay through MLife Rewards which came with a $100 resort credit. Upon checking out, we were told the “resort credit” didn’t apply to the “resort fees”. Front desk staff was rude about the whole situation. At the pool, they wanted to charge $30 for a tube for the lazy river and then another $10 to inflate it. I can’t… Read more

I can’t believe people still go to Vegas and pay these exorbitant and predatory fees. These casino hotels/corporations on the strip have become so greedy. As long as people continue to go and pay, they will continue. To each their own, but we plan to vacation elsewhere in the future. Read less

Rooms were nice but really outdated. Majority of the lights on the room didn't work. The TV in the tower suite is probably about 15 years or older. Noise levels are so high from the HVAC systems on the roofs outside. Checked out on the 4/11 and still have not received my folio via email as promised. This is just ridiculous.
