Very clean, recently remodeled room. Comfortable bed, extremely quiet at night, excellent European-style buffet breakfast spread. There's a restaurant and bar on site but we walked about 150 yards to the Mammoth base village. Terrific location; leave the car and start walking,

Our room was comfortable and clean with a large king size bed, the bathroom was clean and odour free. A fridge was provided but no coffee machine or microwave in the room. Breakfast was more than adequate with a decent selection of cold continental style items. The area is quite pricey but this hotel represented good value for money. The town itself has an extensive range of eateries and bars and the Alpenhof is excellently sited to the most attractive area around the base of the ski lift. We particularly liked this area at night when it was prettily lit, with a vibrant atmosphere. We enjoyed sitting round one of the outdoor gas campfires and falling into conversation with fellow travellers. Read less

As much as we want to offer a glowing review, thanks largely to the helpful and friendly staff, we can only offer a mixed assessment at best. Among its chief positive features are the plentiful breakfast, very friendly and accommodating staff (they were kind enough to mail to our home address items that we did not want to carry on our backpack), and the comfortable beds. The location is great--right across the street from Mammoth Village. On the downside, the WiFi is not super strong, the bathroom could use updating, and we would recommend a room towards the back to be away from street noise. Also, our room did not have A/C which made for a stuffy sleep experience—even with the temperature drop at night. Still, for the price, the location (within walking distance of Mammoth Village) and the other positive amenities, it’s worth considering. Read less

We stayed here about half a dozen times and really liked it. The staff is nice, the breakfasts are a nice perk, the location is excellent near the gondola and some good restaurants, and the attached restaurant is nice. But after our last visit we made a reservation for the following winter. We made a mistake and the next day realized there was a conflict with this time, so about 24 hours later we cancelled this reservation for a year in advance. Despite being good customers they charged us the full cancellation fee and wouldn't make an exception. So they got this fee, but in insisting on this $ they are missing out on guests who stayed once or twice a winter and spent $$$$ there. I think our last visit was in Jan. of 2018, but I couldn't go back that far in the Tripadvisor options. Read less
