If you Love dogs and you want to see dogs, or bring your pet on Vacation, it’s very dog friendly. I saw lots of dogs and some children, in all of the public spaces, including the restaurant, lobby and in elevators. They were just as comfortable, enjoying the amenities, as their owners. Some were fireside on the couch chilling with their owner and also in the restaurant. In the lobby, They have delicious self serve coffee or tea in the morning and a social hour at night, where you can get a complimentary glass or wine or beer. The hotel is walking distance to a few nice restaurants like the silver fork, chop steakhouse and the reluctant panther. They also have a restaurant right in the hotel called the copper grouse. It’s a cozy restaurant with a fireplace. We had breakfast there and the food was OK. We also had drinks there. They make some good craft coctails. Read less

We stayed at the hotel over Thanksgiving weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is excellent : it has a contemporary feel while preserving the vibe of this historic area . Rooms are very well appointed and laid out . Fireplace is an amazing touch as the weather gets cold . Room is equipped with a nice wide closet , furniture is just enough, with the touch of nature inspired nuances . Bed was comfortable. Mini fridge is there . What was missing was a mini coffee machine and bottled water. However free (and pretty good) coffee was in the lobby daily and I believe tap water is drinkable. At least we drank it and still alive.. My favorite things in the room were the bathroom with a free-standing tub and the yoga mat . That made a huge difference for me, as I love a nice warm tub and to do my daily stretches . The least favorite thing was the AC vent in the shower. Sometimes it blew hot air, sometimes - ice cold. We had to adjust it with a pencil to point away from me using a tub or the shower . Sound insulation is excellent at the hotel. We had a walkout door and hotel had guests with pets - we couldn’t hear neither the neighbors nor the dogs !! I loved the artwork around the hotel - it was very much reflective of Vermont and the history and the nature. Another nice touch is several lounge areas in the lobby for people to mingle. And one more thing - while you wait for your car or shuttle , you can write cards to the military and drop them in a box to be mailed . This warmed my heart !!! They also have a social hour with free drinks, which we were too busy to take advantage of . I highly recommend Copper Grouse for dinner - the food is amazing, but that would be a separate review . For a quick local bite- check out Dina’s bakery down the road - great coffee and quiches to die for , not to mention the service . Last but not least, this trip was celebrating our Anniversary and Daniel from the front desk helped arrange a nice platter of local cheese selection with a bottle of Champagne that was waiting for us when we checked into the room. Hope to be back again one day ! Ps: get free tickets for the Lincoln Family Home museum - it’s excellent , especially if you get a guided tour. Read less

On a recent business trip over the Thanksgiving holiday I chose the Taconic noting they had a well reviewed restaurant with in-room dining. As there was a winter storm and I had been working non-stop I wanted to be able to relax in a beautiful, comfortable room and order in. No such luck. No where on the website (any site) do they note that in-room dining is not available on Tuesday and Wednesday. This meant no breakfast onsite either - note that this is a location in a small village with not many options. Also the decor was more like a retirement home than the design forward, artsy Kimpton hotels I’m used to. For a new property the condition was pretty shoddy. The carpet was coming up at the edges, as was the wallpaper. There was mold in the shower and housekeeping had left someone’s hat on the bed. I had stayed in a Holiday Inn Express the night prior and wished I had just remained there rather than “treating” myself. They at least had breakfast and a pantry available. Will not be back. We are a group of mostly retired friends that get together twice a year for a getaway trip. One of our members enjoys doing the homework (of which the rest of us are all very grateful) and found this hotel. To say that our experience was great is putting it mildly. From the time we checked in we met great staff members who continually went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable! Huge shoutout to “J” at the front desk. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and well appointed with nice amenities in the bathroom. Having a restaurant on site was a plus, as was the social hour each afternoon. We chose to use the shuttle on two occasions to go to dinner and Tyler was a very nice young man, very friendly and professional. Stephan rounded out a great front of the house crew. Our stay included tickets to Hildene- Robert Todd Lincoln’s estate. We definitely took advantage of this perk and were glad we did- it was an amazing place not to be missed. This is a pet friendly hotel and a lot of guests had their mostly well behaved dogs with them. The only downside to this was they were allowed to bring their dogs into the dining room. I am from New York State and pets are not allowed in restaurants unless they are service/seeing eye pets. Aside from from that, our stay was a great experience! Although we try to go somewhere different for each trip, we might come back on a non-girls trip. Read less

I booked this hotel via a Travelzoo deal that was offering a great discounted nightly room rate, plus a discounted resort fee and two admission tickets to Hildene. Couldn't pass it up, and I'm glad I didn't. The hotel is in a great location, close to everything that Manchester has to offer. The decor is appealing -- I feel it's hard to decorate… Read more
I booked this hotel via a Travelzoo deal that was offering a great discounted nightly room rate, plus a discounted resort fee and two admission tickets to Hildene. Couldn't pass it up, and I'm glad I didn't. The hotel is in a great location, close to everything that Manchester has to offer. The decor is appealing -- I feel it's hard to decorate in neutrals without it being boring, but they've gotten it right at this hotel. The common areas feel cozy but never cramped; it's easy to feel at home. The common areas also smell wonderful -- like a clean laundry smell. We had a king room with a courtyard view -- which meant we were looking at another wing of the hotel. The decor in the room was in the same vein as the common areas -- neutrals-done-right. Everything was very clean, and the bed linens had the same fresh smell as the rest of the hotel. The climate control in the room worked well -- we were too cold at first, then too hot, and then we found the happy medium. Water temperature and pressure in the cute, clean little (but not TOO little) bathroom was very good. The things we didn't like about the room were relatively small -- the disk dimmers on the bedside lamps were awkward to use. We wished the bathroom had a vent to prevent it getting humid in there. We REALLY wished the bathroom had a solid, opaque door on it -- why put translucent panels in a bathroom door? I used the bathroom in the middle of the night, and the light coming through the translucent panels woke up my boyfriend; nobody needs that. The complimentary products in the bathroom smell great, but don't wash off. The hand soap and body wash were the main culprits, but the shampoo took some doing as well. Beyond those relatively small things, everything was lovely. We enjoyed "social hour" both nights of our stay, with complimentary glasses of a very nice cabernet. And we had a delicious dinner in the onsite restaurant, the Copper Grouse, on our second night. We had the cheddar arancini, the roasted Brussels sprouts, the fluke ceviche, and the coq au vin -- everything was excellent. Read less
