1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn, New York

The hotel

There’s more than a ‘nod to nature’ at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge – it’s eco-friendly to its very core, from your room’s organic bedding to the nature-inspired children’s activities, daily Lobby Farmstand, use of reclaimed barn wood, and local artisanal products at the picnic-style restaurant. Style doesn’t suffer for sustainability, with features like corrugated leather headboards, gritty blackened steel, crate-style slatted closets, and a pop-up beer garden all giving the hotel a cool and contemporary edge. And they haven’t sacrificed those urban hotel essentials either, so you get complimentary WiFi, the Bamford Haybarn Spa, and a free shuttle into Manhattan (in a Tesla electric vehicle naturally) – although you could just stroll over nearby Brooklyn Bridge instead. But it’s the social buzz and views that make this place special, with the best enjoyed while sipping handcrafted cocktails on the rooftop pool terrace.

We have stayed at this hotel twice now and both times were exceptional! We stayed in December as well as in June. Both during the cold winter and very hot summer, we had a wonderful stay! The staff have been awesome and so helpful both in person and over the phone. The layout of the hotel is beautiful and very nicely set up! The rooms are wonderful and the whole hotel smells wonderful (funny to say but it smells like a spa)! Both times we have stayed in the Brooklyn Bridge king room. The beds are awesome and there is enough storage in the room, especially considering its not a huge room. Its a perfect sized room and comes we a view from the room that is unparalleled. Their in room breakfast menu is amazing as well! SO pleased with everything! The hotel amenities are great, especially in the summer. The rooftop pool with a view on the manhattan skyline is a great place to enjoy the hot days of summer. As well as the rooftop bar! I only have one complaint and Im not letting this affect my overall rating but its the servers at the rooftop pool and bar. The service is quite bad in comparison to the staff throughout the rest of the hotel, and even the servers at the Osprey are great! This seems to be an issue most guests have faced so hopefully they will work on that soon. The rooftop staff are not observant and a bit careless. If its busy, I totally understand but most of the times we went it was not busy. For the price, the drinks and service should match. Aside from this the rooftops and views are wonderful! The hotel is in the perfect location, its out of the hustle and bustle of the city but with so much going on everywhere at the same time. Without a doubt I will continue to stay at this hotel and suggest it to everyone visiting the area! Read less

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great position but a few mis-steps

Unfortunately, a couple of mis-steps which impacted significantly on our enjoyment and expectation at this expensive Hotel. On Check-in, we were told our Room wasn't quite ready but would be before 3:00pm. Would we like to relax on the Roof Bar and we would be emailed when the room became available? Went to the Roof Bar. No one welcomed us. We wandered about and sat on wooden blocks and waited for someone to ask us what we wanted but no-one came. Went in search of a Menu and asked girl by lift stairwell for a Menu and did I have to find someone to give my order to? The boy who was with her said there would be a minimum order of $75 if we wanted a Table. We're residents! Surely that doesn't apply to us? The boy said nothing (no apology for his assumption) and the girl said she would get someone to look after us. NOT a great start. Someone came and took our order and as the time approached 3:00pm, I asked our waitress if she could check with Reception to see if our room was ready. Sorry, not able to do that. Odd. Could she ask her supervisor to do this then? Sorry, all Managers are in a meeting! So I had to pop down to Reception and leave my wife on the Pool bar level. Receptionist surprised we’d not heard and then noted from the system that our allocated room STILL not ready. She allocated a “better” room - same class but on a higher floor - the 5th. Bellboy then took us to our Room. He was not very informative. No mention that the Coffee was included in our Resort Fee. No explanation of how to contact Housekeeping. No mention of the filtered water. Subsequently had an accident with the coffee machine — no information in the room about how to operate it — the instructions were on a serviette! No Hotel Services folder. For this issue we were looked after by Diego (a Bell Boy but not the one we experienced when we arrived - Diego was GREAT), practically single handedly showing us what caring, attentive service looks like. Also, when I phoned from the UK before booking, the guy I spoke to was extremely helpful and human. As indicated above, we were not given a suitable explanation about the room and its facilities leading to us not being aware of the costs of the mini bar items: nor that the coffee pods were included within the additional cost we paid. For the cost of our stay, I didn’t feel like we had received the level of service I would have expected. Finally, no followup after leaving Feedback. Disappointing experience. Read less

I visited the hotel in September with my best friend to celebrate our 40th birthdays. The hotel is beautiful as well as the location which was perfect. Unfortunately the customer service was the worst I have ever received. Asked for robes and slippers and took 3 requests before being delivered. The toilets in the basement were disgusting with half broken, no toilet roll and generally not looked after. The staff all has an aura around them that they thought they were better than you. The only member of staff who was lovely was Bill. When checking out it was the worst experience ever. We booked with Virgin holidays who were amazing but the hotel said we had to pay the resort fee which had already been paid for and then the starred we had dinner on the terrace which we hadn’t. The way we were treated was as though we were liars and did not believe us even though we never had dinner on the terrace! After 5 minutes of arguing the manager came out and said that we would not get charged. Paying my credit card now returned I have been charged!!! Absolutely disgusting. I have attempted to contact the hotel twice now and the hotel is not responding to my emails. Never ever stay here it totally ruined mine and my friends birthday. Read less

I-pad controlled room didn't work-- just gimmicky. Light switches wouldn't turn on individual lights, just the entire room. limited outlets or place to work as well. Then basic service wasn't good. Housekeeping showed up late in the day. When you are charging Ritz Carlton rates, service should be much better. I'd rather have a clean room than an electric toilet. Plus rooms are designed for 1-2 people max. Don't even try to stay here with kids. Read less
