Our initial impression of the Hilton Garden was favorable- we arrived a bit too early to check in, so they offered to hang on to our luggage while we went out to meet a friend. All the staff we interacted with were great- very friendly, welcoming, and professional. The neighborhood was quite cool- florists and plant sales everywhere, so during the day it feels like you're walking along a path in a (very narrow) green park. Once we got in to our room later that evening, everything looked fine- clean, spacious (for an urban hotel), and with all the expected amenities. Fridge, microwave, and Keurig all clean and functional. Recent fixtures in the bathroom. Good wifi connection. Didn't use the tv or climate control (we were there during the one week a year when the temperature was perfect), so I can't speak to those. But once we started actually trying to use things, problems started. The sheets on our king-size bed were apparently queen-sized, and barely reached to the bottom of the mattress around the sides (and not at all at the bottom), so they pulled into a helpless, slippery jumble the moment we got into bed. The toilet handle stuck, so it ran continuously unless pulled back up after each flush. The sink drained veeeeeery slowly. The shower had good water pressure and functional controls, but the first time my husband took a shower he somehow ended up with a giant puddle on the floor. Probably user error, but he's generally pretty careful of such things. That wouldn't have been such a big deal, except that our towel supply was exactly two (surprisingly small) bath towels, one hand towel, and one washcloth. No bath mat. So the hand towel was sacrificed to cleaning up the puddle, one bath towel was set down as a bath mat, and we shared the remaining bath towel. Granted, I'm sure we could have called down for more towels, but it was late and we were getting ready for bed and didn't want to bother. So after a night of fighting with the sheets and wrapping the floppy pillow around my head to muffle the sounds of delivery trucks bringing in the next day's load of fresh greenery, we were ready to just be done with it and check out. Then came the worst surprise- my husband had a huge red welt on his back, and another on his arm that, three days later, are still itchy and angry-looking. Now, we didn't see any bedbugs, but he's had this same reaction before to what we know were bedbug bites. I got none, and like I said, we didn't see anything, but.... it's a little too suspicious to ignore. Great staff, fun & convenient location, well-designed rooms, but the execution of basic features like linens and plumbing needs some work, and... possibly bedbugs. Read less

I haven't stayed here in years since the Fashion District or Times square Hilton are my go to properties in NYC now. Sadly the 42nd street Hilton is no longer and the Fashion district was quite a bit higher so stayed here this past weekend. Location is great if you are using JFK or EWR being only a few minute walk from Penn Station. I like the location since you don't have the times square congestion and are an easy walk or subway ride to Times Square for theater and easy walk to Union Square for the dining there. Staff was great. Especially the day staff. The front desk clerk and bell man knew my name and greeted me each time they saw me. The breakfast benefit is awful. It was $20 a day credit total for two people. It wouldn't have even covered breakfast for one. Fortunately my friend and I prefer to dine elsewhere for breakfast in NYC but the restaurant isn't open past breakfast to use it for a later meal . It could be used in the store but soda's and a vending sized bag of chips were $4 each and that's all they had in the store. If you are staying here, go with the bonus points instead of the breakfast. There's a few real good places to get breakfast at for cheap near the hotel (Doughnut Project, Breads Bakery or Brooklyn Bagel are all easy walks). One thing that did impress me was they had daily housekeeping. This is the first Hilton property I've stayed at post covid that has provided any type of housekeeping services Read less

When I got to the hotel the staff was very friendly and were very accommodating however when entering my room the room had a bad smell that was there all afternoon since I checked in and I left the window open and the smell was still there also the toilet was not flushing correctly and the lock on the door was broken which was supposed to provide an extra layer of security when locking your door the hotel did provide house cleaning and a engineer to fix a toilet and resolve the smell issue but the fix was only temporary because it still continued. The bed sheet and mattress were soiled which is ridiculous, especially during these times of Covid-19 when things should be clean, so I checked out before the end of my trip. Truly disappointed. This hotel is close to midtown, Times Square and Broadway. I enjoyed the staff and the close proximity to foodie heavens. I couldn’t have asked for a better place I like Magnolia Bakery, Canaan Sushi and Milk Bar. Enjoy your stay

Breakfast lady will try to charge you full price even if you have a complimentary ticket for continental breakfast if you don’t tip her. (She argued with me about my ticket and I got my own breakfast so why would I tip) She has a bad attitude and I would not stay here again if she was still there .
