I stayed 2 nights at this Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan. I was in a King Evolution room which cost me US$350 for the 2 nights including taxes but without breakfast. Now for NYC this is considered a budget hotel and it was just that. Everything was fine but nothing outstanding. Room was clean and comfortable enough and I had a nice street view (this street is full of florists which was nice). I choose this hotel due to it's close proximity to Penn Station as I arrived by Amtrak from Philadelphia. From the Station it was a short and easy walk to the hotel even with 2 suitcases. In general the hotels location was good for exploring and getting around New York. The Empire State Building and Macys are just a 10 minute walk away and the 28TH Street Metro Station is a 2 minute walk away at the end of the street the hotel is on... So all very easy and accessible. There is so much choice in NYC and I rarely stay at the same place twice, as I like variety in my life, and so I'd probably not stay here again, although I would recommend the hotel for people on a budget wanting to experience NYC over a few days. Too many great options in NYC to suffer through this place. Although the location of the hotel is great, there were several things that left us disappointed: - The lady that checked us in when we arrived was very unfriendly from the start and not at all welcoming. No smile or “how are you” or “welcome to the Hilton.” - The check in system was down when we arrived, so it took 20 minutes to check in. However, this is forgivable and beyond the hotel’s control….. So no worries. - Paint chips falling off the hotel room door and paint chipping all over the bathtub. At a Hilton, guests expect a certain standard, and that includes walls with intact paint. - Extremely thin walls and windows! We heard our hotel neighbors all hours of the night and, therefore, got very little sleep. We even heard our neighbors alarm clock going off very early in the morning. - The maid never showed up to clean our room on our first day. When we notified the front desk about this, we were told that we had refused service. However, this is impossible because we were gone all morning/afternoon and purposefully left the “no service” sign in our room to ensure the maid would come. - Hotel blanket threads were coming apart. It was either too old or washed too many times on a hard cycle. At a Hilton, really? - We called the front desk twice the first morning to get an extra coffee cup for the Keurig since the hotel room only provided one. No one ever came despite promising to come. - Every time we left the hotel or re-entered the building during our 3 day stay, no one at the front desk said hello let alone acknowledged our presence. Even when we checked out on our last day, it was all business and no “how was your stay?” or “we hope you have a nice trip home.” Very weird. The luggage attendant, however, was very nice and friendly to guests. Although the hotel tried to make it up to us with a free bottle of champagne and breakfast (food was nothing special, unfortunately), there were too many bad things about this hotel. There are too many other options in Manhattan for us to entertain this option again. We will not be back. Read less

My boyfriend and I wanted to have a romantic weekend in the city. the weather wasn't great but our stay was very memorable. We picked this place since it was the middle ground from both of our residences and extremely close to all major transportation stations and many beautiful sights in the city.
