If you’ve been to any other elements hotels before this one is not quite up to the same standards. The lobby is nice and the decor is nice but the rooms could use some work and cleaning. The have a little kitchenette and are spacious for New York standards which was great but the hallway and bathroom feel very industrial and not very comfortable. The painting job is pretty terrible and lots of splattering the floor. It feels unclean and is not consistent with the quality of previous elements hotels I’ve stayed at. As someone else said the showers have no shelves or anything to put your stuff on and there is always a pool of water in the bottom. The room was not very clean when we checked in and the phone didn’t work. The breakfast wasn’t too bad and it was nice to have coffee in the morning. There was are a group of people using drugs outside the entrance everyday everytime we came and went from the hotel which was unfortunate. Since the area around the hotel wasn’t the best it would be nice to have extra security features such as scanning your room Card in the elevator to access your floor. Overall we enjoyed the spacious room but would likely not stay here again Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great Location near Penn Station and Large Rooms with Kitchens

The hotel is an excellent location and near enough to Penn Station to walk with a bag. The hotel has very large rooms with kitchens and sinks and fully stocked cabinets like an apartment. The beds are soft and roomy, and the air conditioning works perfectly. The bathrooms a bit small but are in great shape. The Front Desk staff were very friendly. Also, you receive free breakfast and happy hour. The elevators can be a bit slow especially at busy times. For the price in mid-town Manhattan, this hotel is well worth the rate. I would recommend and would return. Read less

Prior to booking at any hotel, we always read the reviews on trip advisor. Despite what we read, we booked the Element. Prior to arriving, I called the hotel & spoke to one of the front desk managers. I explained that we were traveling with my mother who is 80 and that we were celebrating her birthday + visiting for college tours. With that being said, I had asked if there would be a way that we could get her into our room a bit earlier. The manager said that there shouldn’t be a problem. When we arrived, the lobby was bright! There were couches & few work stations. We checked in, and they said that our room would probably be ready around noon-ish. This is great news as the manager had assured me of this before we arrived, and we were now reassured of this again so that my mom wouldn’t have to sit in the lobby for around five hours! My mom had just got into the room… at 3pm. With this being a birthday trip, they had decorated our room. Shower had puddles of water when you showered, which left us all feeling dirty. No place located in the shower to put a wash cloth, toiletries, so you’re left to put them on the floor sitting in a pile of undrained water. Found in the room were also holes on the walls from where they had moved the tv, and the space next to the bed was dirty. We needed a blanket which I asked for in the evening. We received it next day. It had a big hole in it. The beds are the quality of a college bed as you could feel the springs. There is a kitchenette, and it was clean and had the basic needs. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast which was great for a quick snack! Coffee is made throughout the day which was good as well. Per previous reviews, yes, the elevators are a mess. You will wait every time that you have to use them. With us visiting from a Friday-The gym was clean & had basic needs. Vincent the bellman was very nice and held our bags, and make checkout easy! The Good- Coffee, closeness to Times Square, and the price (it was decent for a spring break trip). The Bad- Beds, Bedding, cleanliness, and mindfulness to making sure that you take care of your guests. The Truth- We use Marriott 100% and this hotel needs to be maintained. If the management team took time to invest in their room quality, linens, and elevator maintenance, this would help your reviews and quality of guests stays improve. Overall if you are looking for an affordable place to stay close to the port authority, Penn station, and times square, this is a good option! Just know that it’s not at Marriott standards, perhaps similar to the red roof inn which is considered a motel vs hotel. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Rooms need maintenance and long elevator waits

While the location for us was great, many parts of the room needed serious attention. It was obvious the room had been abused, and this was certainly not the level of maintenance I expected from a Marriott property. Add to it the long wait times for the elevator, and the experience was less than stellar. The only good thing was the cost was a little less than other Marriott properties in the area. First the issues. We had a room with two double beds, and the room was barely big enough for both beds (maybe this had to do with the fact our room was the one between the two elevator banks). Next, the sink in the bathroom was cracked, with a crack running from the middle to the edge of the sink. The kitchen glass stove top was chipped, cracked and broken in a few different places. The blinds for window were out of their track. Breakfast was always packed and hard to find a table, and add to that the wait for the elevator in the morning to get down and back up, made breakfast almost unusable, and we ended up skipping it two of the days we stayed. And finally, I booked this through marriott.com to make sure I earned the points and credit for the stay as a Marriott elite, and it's been 3 weeks, and still cannot get credit for the stay. Image of the Tripadvisor rating Would look elsewhere

This one was a bit of an ick for me. I was only there a night…. Both the shower and sink were clogged. The block is not great - I’d advise tourists to go a few blocks north. I’m fine staying solo but I wouldn’t have the kids here. When I went down for lunch I saw a guy do fentanyl or whatever his choice was… and when I was coming back his behind… Read more

I’m fine staying solo but I wouldn’t have the kids here. When I went down for lunch I saw a guy do fentanyl or whatever his choice was… and when I was coming back his behind was out and he was screaming at passerby’s. This is standard for the port authority neighborhood, but it’s not the best representation of NYC. I also didn’t love the lack of security. You didn’t need your key to access your floor. Large room with fridge/kitchenette. Near the bus station and subways. Staff was nice. I avoided prime time elevator hours on purpose because of negative reviews. Overall, I won’t be back. I’ll spend the extra money and be elsewhere. Read less
