Image of the Tripadvisor rating bad experience, rude front desk

I arrived at the Hard Rock hotel with my son 20 minutes before the check in time. The woman at the front desk told us our room was ready. I travel frequently for work and this was the rudest and most ridiculous experience I've had while checking into a hotel. I will not be going back. Read less

My husband and I recently visited NYC to attend the US Open. We stayed in Queens for one night before moving over to the Hard Rock. We loved the location in the heart of Times Square, and the hotel is gorgeous. I expected a grander lobby area, so I was a bit disappointed in the two-level entry as it felt a little disjointed. We were hoping for a good backdrop for a photo of the two of us, but we didn't see anything that made it clear we were at the Hard Rock. We were happy with our stay overall, but there were a couple of things that detracted a bit. First the positives. As I mentioned, the hotel is beautiful. Our room was a good size (for NYC) and was nicely appointed. I liked the blind that rolled down as it kept most light out in the morning. The bathroom was a little tight but very nice. We loved the rain showerhead. We did not eat at the hotel, but we did go up to the rooftop bar, RT60. Both of us ordered the special Spiced Maple Espresso Martini, and it was fantastic. We were surprised to see that all the tables and seating areas outside were reserved, but it wasn't a huge deal. We stood outside while we sipped on our martinis and took in the view. Now the not-so-positives. We got to the hotel at about 12:15pm, knowing that they might not have a room ready. At the front desk, we were told that it was not check-in time yet and we had two options: We could leave our bags and claim them at 3pm, or we could pay an extra $65 and access a room immediately. I asked the woman what type of room it would be if we chose the latter option, and she said it would be the same type we had reserved. We have traveled pretty extensively, and I have never experienced a hotel charging a fee when a room of the type reserved was actually ready. We paid it because we preferred to leave all our things in an actual guest room, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The only other (minor) negatives: 1) Although I realize we were in busy/noisy Times Square, I was surprised how much street noise we could hear from our room on the 23rd floor. 2) ESPN was not available. This was disappointing because we were in town for the US Open and were hoping to see some of the men's semifinals (we only had tickets for the previous day). As I mentioned up front, we had a good experience overall. Would we return? Maybe. There are many good options in that part of the city, but we would at least consider the Hard Rock. Read less

We stayed here for my 50th birthday, perfect location close to time square. Really cool roof top bar. The hotel is as you would expect with music themed rooms, but the bars on all floors were perfect. It was close to Christmas so the seasons vibe was starting g and we had a great time
