The major complaint about this hotel seems to be the outside courtyard. After speaking with the nice outside guard, David, he explained that there is nothing anyone can do to stop people from congregating there, but they do monitor it. We knew what to expect so we just walked straight straight through to the doors. It wasn’t a big deal for us. We had no problems with any of the staff. Had to call and ask the front desk for extra towels and each time we had them delivered within ten minutes. Didn’t have a problem with the elevator times. (We were on the 18th floor.) It’s NYC, so I expect to wait for an elevator. The beds we’re comfortable and the shower was nice. The refrigerator in the room was cold. It was about a ten minute walk to Times Square. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. Read less

The good: Beds are comfortable and clean. The location is close to main attractions. The bad: Some staff are completely rude. Specifically, the night staff. The security guard at nights is absolutely rude. I asked front desk for additional cups and the guy was completely rude to us. There are only two elevators for 36 floors. They can get very crowded so do plan for extended wait during rush hours. The lobby area is very small and crowded. The ugly: The benches outside the hotel are filled with homeless people doing drugs and sleeping overnight. This was scary and a complete inconvenience since we were traveling with kids. Although, there was police in the area it was a stress going in and out of the hotel every day. We even witnessed 2 policeman chasing a homeless guy that apparently had stolen something. This was scary! In my opinion, there are better hotel choices close to this location. I would not stay here again. Read less

I struggle writing this review after a three night stay. I struggle writing this review after a three night stay. Were the review to be based on room only, which was smallish (great for 2) but comfortable bed and nicely appointed with terrific bathroom, the stars would have been five. With that said, inconsistency, though minor, in housekeeping was annoying. The elevators are on slow side and this should be factored into your plans. The room (22nd floor) and hallway were exceptionally quiet. But, the review is more overall. As others have noted (since 2018), the courtyard remains a pretty big issue for many….including us. The groups of quite a few people that gather there over much of the available seating have coolers, food and drink, weed, open bottles of alcohol etc. throughout day/evening. No idea where they come from or why they gather here. Even though we had no direct negative interactions, it was, nonetheless, of concern as potential for that to occur was very evident. Very. Management? This scenario is made all the more irksome in that a similar type hotel with almost identical courtyard on Eighth Ave. (a block or so from here) does not have this trouble. We passed it often during our stay…no one but seemingly guests on the seating. So, would we stay here again? The room, available rates and certainly location were all very positive. But, I am really not sure. Read less

Both times the entrance was filled with homeless people and congregations of people doing drugs. The area smelled like urin even though they will hose the area down. The service was minimal and the lobby is small and cramped. Summary- I got what I paid for. If you are looking for a cheap place this is it but just remember you get what you pay for. My recommendation is have one less drink at the restaurant and pay 30$ more and get so much more at the Marriott close by! Read less

My friends and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights (5/25/24 - 5/29/24). On the morning of 5/28, I was about to grab a can of orange juice in the fridge located in the lobby at 0650, the receptionist yelled, "10 minutes," emphasizing I wasn't supposed to grab before 0700 which is the official time for their continental breakfast. I was shocked at her loud yelling. My friend who defended me with "what would be the difference if she just grabbed it now and in 10 min? It's not like she's getting 2 drinks!! You're being rude." I also said "My friends and I will be leaving in 5 minutes so we won't be able to grab the breakfast on the go." The female receptionist stayed quiet. The lady who placed the breads on the stand told us the breakfast starts at 0700. We let it go and went to have a seat the tables in the back waiting for the rest of the friends. Then 2 minutes late, a non-Asian male guest went past us with a yogurt in his hand, apparently taken from that same fridge. I asked if he got it from the continental breakfast and he confirmed it. I looked at the time on my phone and it was 0655. Interestingly, I had to speculate if it was because of our being Asian that I was not able to get the orange juice can whereas the non-Asian male could before 0700. What really is the policy about the breakfast time here? We paid for our stay!!!! Read less
