Its a holiday inn so its exactly what you get on the tin, however, its the staff that can make the difference which is what happened with my visit. I went for five nights on my own to visit my son. On arrival I booked into a small room on the front over looking 8th Avenue, that was a mistake, it was certainly the City that never sleeps or in this case road. The room was at the bottom end of the price range, but perfectly acceptable. The TV had a small crack in the screen which obscured the picture, I phone and told reception saying there was no panic as I was going out, however a new TV was installed by the time I came back in the evening. I had a couple of quireys on the safe and gym and these were answed immediatley and in a pleasant manner and finally as we Brits have night flights back to the Uk they allowed me to stay in my room for the day without charge. If any Holiday Inn executives are reading this you should reward your staff as it was very busy and hectic at times, especially in the small lobby, but over my visit I never saw anything but the delivery of a friendly and professional service. Stayed in this hotel recently with my friend for 4 nights. 3 nights, great location, mid town. Room was snug, but well ,aid out, and 32nd floor view of the Hudson at sunset each night was breath taking. Rattle has some older bad reviews on service, but our experience was good, pub grub was, well pub grub, but reasonable and beer on draft impressive choices. Bakery next door has exquisite European pastry. Lastly, I left my iPad behind. Vitally, Karolin, and Luisa and un named housekeeper pitched in, and retrieved it and sent it back to its home. This is a great hotel in a central location. Hotel is close to times Square and also to a subway which is a couple minutes walk. Hotel has many food/bakery/coffee shops around it and also a convince store next door. Beds are comfortable and bathroom is very clean and modern. Rooms are a little small. At busy times lift can take along time.

The bar and restaurant attached, rattle and hum, serves good food and has an amazing range of beers with great service. Would def stay again. Only downsides, v minor. Not enough hooks in room for coats, towels etc. Difficult to use taxi drop-off in rush hour with lots of bags. Get your driver to pull of the avenue to the side street. Allow plenty of time for lift! Everything a bit tired, could do with a good refurb but everything else more than made up for that. Read less
