We last visited NYC in 2018 and stayed in Hell's Kitchen, this time we wanted to be near Broadway and HINYCTS was the perfect spot, within walking distance from just about everything we wanted to do for our short stay there (23 hours flying for a 5-day stay!) Food is in abundance-high end restaurants to budget; grocery store up the road, a little fridge in the room to store milk for that desperately needed caffeine shot in the morning (before bodily parts can function), subway access on just about every street corner within minutes, shopping (Macy's 10 minutes away- we arrived just in time to catch the Black Friday sales), Bryant Park where the Christmas markets had just started, a few bars with good drink selections.. and Madison Square Garden, also minutes away on foot. We'd never been to an NBA game so managed to get tickets to a NY Knicks game at the "Garden" with the Knicks never looking like they were going to lose (to the Hornets!). Caught a couple of musicals and TKTS seats (booked under the "Red Stairs" near Times Square were prime seats at significantly discounted prices-wouldn't get these seats at these prices in Aust! We had a family room, travelled with our adult daughter (as a graduation present!) so the extra bed in the room did make it tight although given that we were mainly in the room to shower, sleep & recharge- was adequate for our needs. The lift can be busy at "peak hour", only 2 lifts for the property so allow time especially if you need to check out and rush off to catch a flight-we were prepared so no dramas there. Also, the reception staff were very helpful in ordering a car to the airport at a very reasonable price (without the hassle of trying to get a cab or Uber). Overall, would recommend the hotel for its central location, great hot shower and the comfort of the Holiday Inn brand. No safety concerns re street traffic outside the property; be street-smart & all is fine, it is NYC after all! Thanks to the staff who made our stay memorable-we would return. Read less

Good location but has to have security at the entrance due to the amount of people sleeping rough outside on the benches and under the cover. Having to navigate through the homeless arguing and fighting, and bags dotted around was utter joy (not) when coming back to the hotel each evening . The foyer is small and bad acoustics when anyone else chatting in the foyer and with the noise of the air conditioning/heater is running. Check in was painful as they couldn't hear my name due to noise, then couldn't find my name or booking - then found after 5 mins - all their mistake. Not greeted as an IHG member, treated like another foreigner visiting NYC. Lifts have long queue times but that's part of the course for some hotels now in Manhattan. Breakfast dining room ok, once you prove to the staff you are staying there, fairly limited selections, but rude staff telling me where I couldn't sit as I was on my own - when the room was empty at 7.00am and was still empty when I left got on my nerves- they kept trying to whisk my plate away as soon as I had put my knife and fork down - when i said I was going to reuse the plate for another serving as it saves on washing up and keeping green I was told to just get another plate. Room was fine - clean and tidy - good bathroom, but the hot water took ages to come through. Room not tired in anyway, good pillows, comfy bed. After staying 3 nights, I had an early check out to catch an early flight and the overnight clerk couldn't be more helpful - i guess my poor check in experience was a one off. As a regular visitor to NYC on business I'll give this one a miss next time. Read less
