The Barclay first opened its doors in 1926 under the aegis of the Vanderbilt family, quickly achieving a reputation as a hotel of distinction and exclusivity. Bette Davis, Marlon Brando and other celebrities have enjoyed its brand of hospitality in the past, now it's your turn! The hotel manages to combine old-world glamour with modern 21st-century functionality. Guests can enjoy an elegant residential design and state-of-the-art room facilities. Thia hotel is worth recommending. Very nice rooms, everything very clean. The employees are also very friendly. The location couldn't be better, you can walk to many places. Breakfast is also highly recommended.

I stayed here for 9 nights in a Premium Club room. I have Diamond Elite Ambassador status with IHG. There is only one good thing about the hotel service: the room cleaners were hard-working and first class! I congratulate them. However because the walls in this hotel are so thin, the cleaners arrive in hallways quite early and bang and crash and talk loudly--so much so that one should not expect to sleep well after 830 am. The Club Lounge has limited food offerings and far, far too much fried food; healthy options are minimal. Unlike Club Lounges in more up market IHG hotels no cocktails are offered. And be prepared to be expected to take your plates back to the counter after eating/drinking. Does that sound like a canteen? It certainly feels like one. I tried to use my Food and Beverage Rewards held on account with IHG. Warning: these rewards have to be applied by the Ambassador desk and cannot be dealt with by the front desk at checkout of before checkout day. When you have to queue for extended periods of time to get these rewards applied to your bill it becomes very frustrating. The same goes for trying to re-boot your room key if it suddenly fails. I waited more than 30mins in a long queue just to get the room key re-booted when it failed on two occasions. No slippers in the room. Now that is just a symptom of "very average". If you are a traveller who has experienced IHG hotels on Oceania/Asia then you will soon realize that this is a very average place. Avoid. Realize that you are in New York where prices are high and hotel service is poor especially in "average" hotels like this one relative to excellent Intercontinental hotels in the IHG group Asia/Oceania, and parts of the EU. As an IHG Ambassador I'll be looking for better IHG options in NYC on my next visit, regardless of the price. Read less

Room was great and the history of this building is rich. Front desk staff advised of Amenities fee and while I'm not a fan of these at least I knew about it. Breakfast at the Parlour wasn't so good - cold and indifferent host sat us at a terrible location even though there were many available tables. I was not advised of mandatory tip - something I'm NOT a fan of and when I modified the tip, they still imposed it. Food and Beverage manager rectified the situation, but it didn't change my feeling on the matter. Read less

The staff were great, the concierge Yuri was outstanding, great knowledge and very helpful, we had a twin double bedded room, the beds are not big double but were comfy, the staff in the The Parlour restaurant were also outstanding, I can’t wait to go back to this Hotel 5 Stars

Love the Barclay and I have visited several times! Some feedback…please rethink the personal care products in room. The scent and quality is not equal to the hotel. Also members should receive complimentary bottled water during their stay.
