This was the first time I've stayed at the Barclay since the renovation a few years ago, and they did a great job maintaining the historic integrity of the building while incorporating some modern comforts. I loved everything about the guest room. The check-in experience was not great. No smile, no greeting, no "how are you" or anything like that, just a brusk "what's your name" followed by the handing over of keys. (She later apologized and said she was having a bad day). The bell staff here will happily watch you struggle with your bags as you try to navigate the stairs at the main entrance, but I guess this is what you expect in New York. I feel that level of service is unacceptable for a luxury brand like Intercontinental, but maybe I am wrong. Read less

The room we booked - superior king size - looked very nice and clean, you had everything you need at your disposal: hair dryer, iron, iron board , etc.. The bed was very very comfy and the bathroom great. You have in the room coffee and tea for free. any other items like snakcsor other beverages from the mini bar are extra cost. As well, they provide free WI FI - password is given at check in. overall we had a great stay at this hotel. the location is very good. we walked most of the times.. good bars and restaurants near by. i would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. p.s.: when you check out you have to pay the city tax which is 30$/ night / room. ( with added tax on the total value) ... we paid 275$ for 8 nights . Read less

We booked a special break for my 40th birthday in May in October 2018 to ensure we got the hotel of choice in an area we wanted. So, after much research we actually booked the sister hotel - Intercontinental Barclay via British Airways holidays. 24 hours before we were flying out to New York I contacted the hotel to request they order us a taxi to take us to the hotel from the airport, at which point they emailed back and said our reservation had been cancelled. I told them that couldn’t be possible as I have the up to date reservation via British Airways holidays. British Airways were brilliant at getting to the bottom of what happened as they weren’t informed by the hotel either - it turned out a member of staff deleted our reservation ‘by mistake’ and that there was nothing they could do as they were now full. We know (and they know of course) we were bumped for a customer paying a better rate... British Airways promptly booked us into the sister hotel Intercontinental Times Square who initially promised an upgrade for the cock up on their part (that never materialised), upon arrival the reception didn’t even know anything about what had happened other than they were required to take payment from us again for the room. We then had to call British Airways again to step in to remind them that they had deleted their payment details and we had already paid. I accept that hotels make mistakes, we are all human, what I am so annoyed about is how this hotel handled it. No one even apologised, came to speak to us, or even fully explained what happened, we were just left to it and told we were lucky to get the replacement room! If I hadn’t emailed to book a taxi shortly before we arrived we would have been none the wiser. Thankfully they haven’t ruined my birthday (I wouldn’t allow them to do that) but we have been on the end of some appalling customer service. My advice? There are plenty of hotels around Times Square, don’t risk this one, if they lose your booking like they did ours, the customer service and support to put things right is shameful. Read less

Good location, rooms very basic (no bath tubs) but clean. As a no frills option it works. Best part of this hotel is the little bar which gives you a choice of over 90 G&T options!!! Would I stay here again, Yes, especially for the proximity to 5th Ave & Central park. Is it an exciting hotel, No, but does what it says on the 'tin'

Staff is amazing and most try to assist to their best ability. Check in was swift and had the Premier room with a great view. Bed was a god send. Super comfortable which is important when you want to have a good night sleep. Unfortunately gym was rather small and there was already a bit of a crowd when I went in at 7am. Totally recommend upgrading… Read more
